True Crime #223

This is a podcast where two sisters research and comment on murders committed by black offenders, some of which, barely get any public attention. Because of this, they are able to accumulate significant amounts of victims & operate for long periods of times without being caught. We will also be discussing missing African American victims, unsolved cases, as well as solved disappearances. DISCLAIMER: THIS PODCAST IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. LISTENER DISCRETION IS ABSOLUTELY ADVISED.Intro & Outro music credits: Horror by Paradox BeatsBeat is being used with private/owned leasing rights.

    I love momma Nikki!!!
My homegirl / home stylist hipped me to this podcast awhile back and I’ve been hooked ever since. Momma Nikki is the best and I’m so glad she’s on more episodes! I appreciate being able to laugh while also listening / honoring the lives of those lost to crime! Keep going 🌹

    Moves a little slow…
The show has interesting stories. Sometimes hard to get into because of all the unnecessary interruptions and interjections. They’re annoying and don’t move the stories along in any way. Especially from mom. Too many explanations of pop culture references and common know things. Otherwise, it’s ok.

    Just Bad
I tried ya’ll. But the mispronunciation of names and places and mixing up the names of the players of the story and the going off topic endlessly just killed it for me.

    Love the show
I love this show. I think Mama Nikki is hilarious and keeps the ladies on their toes when she’s on because they can’t cuss. You can tell they grew up right. (I do like the cussing lol) They tell a great story. I think they are hilarious too. Also people don’t come for their mother.

    Great!
I’ve been listening for some time now. I’m in the car a lot traveling for work and this podcast is a welcome break from music during those times. Keep doing what you are doing. Side note: Have you considered an episode about Anthony Sowell? He was known as the Cleveland Strangler. Truly a despicable man.

    Good not great
I’ve listened on and off over the years with mixed feelings. I love that they cover lesser known cases. Many of them can’t even be found on Reddit so I appreciate the research that goes into this. I also approach it with grace as I always will for black women. I’ve seen reviews calling these ladies ghetto and hood which they are nothing of the sort btw! (Dog whistle) On the other hand I do think that they can beinsensitive, though it has gotten a little better over time. I would actually hate it if they covered a case for a loved one of mine. I was turned off by an episode proving they weren’t educated on DV. Which is sad since it’s such a recurring theme in true crime and contributes to the storytelling and victims perspective. They also scolded a listener who very gently left a review saying they should educate themselves. If u really enjoy hearing lesser known cases it’s worth laboring through imo.

    Too much laughing
I know some listeners will not agree, but I find Mama Nikki’s incessant giggling to be a bit much-especially when we’re learning how some unfortunate person was murdered. The high pitched laughter is distracting and the constant off topic interruptions are off putting. She seems like a lovely person, but at times she brings a silliness to the pod that just does not feel appropriate.

    Great Stories, Too Lighthearted
I definitely understand personality differences and trying to lighten the load of a dark topic however the giggling and mom’s over talking is very distracting. Although this is a black podcast we are not a monolith so some for the race jokes can be off putting. On a positive note, the story telling (when not interrupted) is top tier.

    New here
Found ya from the dock on the murderer. The humor and childlike voice of the mom is odd for this subject matter. Maybe one more episode to see if I stay.

    A little too comedic
I was really into this podcast for a week or so, im new to pods so it was my favorite due to inexperience. I did feel a little iffy when i was listening due to all the jokes and humor around victims and suspects for that matter but i started a couple new pods & it really validated what i was already feeling. The jokes arent normal & not everyone makes them. I understand making the show light hearted but some of the things yall say are just really unnecessary esp momma nikki 😭 shes so cute and her jokes are funny but i dont think on this type of podcast is the place to showcase them. Turn down the humor a bit and be a little more respectful and the show would be 5 stars! Wishing success on yall & hoping yall take the criticism with grace.

    Mama is such a delight!!!
Foremost, I have been on an avid search for more Black woman led true crime podcast and you all have been the most delightful find! The multigenerational perspective is fantastic and Mama is a hoot, reminds me of my own! For those that make claims that these ladies lack the professionalism you seek, go watch 60 Minutes or listen to NPR, this isn’t the one for you. Their perspective is unique to who they are and their personalities are clearly very jovial and quick-witted, if you want misery seek that out but they aren’t your company. The negative reviews are unnecessary when you could simply leave. Keep going ladies, your voices are so valuable to this space!

    Inconsistent
Love the pod but episodes are so inconsistent
  • breamedl11
    Very distasteful
I thought it was just me but looking at other reviews it seems to be a lot that think this podcast is tacky, disrespectful and distasteful. No regard for the families with all side giggle, snickering and rude comments. I had to unfollow after one episode

Who let Ma do the Advertising
I lost it at “I think it’s some doggy crack” 🤣 I love mama Nikki. Oh yeah yall too… 🫶🏾

    Not here for it
For this to be a podcast covering black true crime by black women I feel like it’s insensitive. Only listened to two episodes and was instantly turned off. Too many instances where y’all referring to black men as thugs, hood or ghetto. In one episode the referred to the victim at least 7 times. Very distasteful. Constantly pushing the negative narrative of black ppl. Specifically the Black Friday episode. Andddd the mother’s voice is annoying and her comments are unnecessary & adds nothing to the show. Example: the mother made a comment about one of the murders saying that one of the victims was “thick” and someone should have heard the tussle when she was being killed. Like wth.
  • Goodie hairs
    Not funny
You guys laughing and giggling while discussing a murder is crazy. I would be so upset to hear this while discussing my loved one brutal death is so disturbing disrespectful. Momma is the worst of them all! The Nova Henry case wow very disrespectful I seen your photos yall don’t have to worry about being played by a basketball player!

    The homies
In my head, we’re homies. Keep up the good work ladies and Mama Nikki

    Do Better…Ghetto Mess
How can I possibly listen to a true crime podcast -Margo Prade episode when narrators are laughing and giggling. I was so excited when I found a true crime podcast hosted by black women, I was excited but as usual… ignorance, silliness and stereotypical hood behavior prevails…ughh!! This is a ghetto mess!!! Just embarrassing! Take a speech class.
  • dndbrbrjdks
    Grow up
Very rude and childish. These people have been murdered . Families have lost loved ones and you all ignorant , childish, ghetto people find it funny. Karma is something serious hope you keep that same energy. Bad enough grown women but to have a male on there acting like that is ridiculous
  • NikkiBurton
    I LOVE this podcast
I listen EVERYDAY at work! I’m on episode 127. Although this girl was lying about getting pregnant after her tubes were tied, it’s very possible to get pregnant after a bilateral tubal ligation. I know because I had one 6/17/2012. My first son was born 2/25/14 and my second son was born 10/4/2023. I got them removed after my most recent birth.
  • Johnna_B1
    Love y’all!!
I love this show so much!!! My favorite show. And I listen to quite a few true crime shows. I laugh like we sitting around telling stories on couch. Yes I know you are discussing some bad things but still. Yall my cousins because Ms.Momma Nikki is definitely my aunt in my head!😂😂😂😂
  • Dee-Es
    Have more Grace.
This is an honest critique. I’ll give credit where credit is due; the show has great insight and depth. However, the comments abt people can be insensitive, and down right rude. I could give numerous examples, but that would make a 10pg review. The mother is my age and honestly she makes cringe comments. It’s like she thinks she is being funny but just being cringe. I’m sure she is nice, but she cannot read the room. Some of the things she says abt people , I’m rewind to see if she really said it. Have some grace and respect people. Esp victims!!!!

Amazing Podcast—Can We Hear More Stories About Black Women?
I really enjoy this podcast! You all do such a great job breaking down each case and making it engaging. However, I would love to hear more stories focusing on Black women in true crime, rather than primarily men killing women. I think it would add a fresh and compelling perspective, and it’d be so interesting to hear your take on those cases. Thanks for the great content, and I hope to see this direction in future episodes!

    Awesomeness
I’m in love with this podcast!!! You guys are great story tellers and ooohhh mama Nikki keeps me cracking up with her Loretta Divine voice…. Keep up the good work ladies!!!! I’m a pure true crime junkie and you guys are one of my favorites ❤️❤️
  • DrTraumaER
    Childish
I would love to give this podcast a negative 5. It’s way too much giggling and joking about serious matters which is extremely disrespectful. It’s as if they have not experience any tragedies and can’t empathize with the victims or their families……but karma. The episode about Nova Henry was the WORST. I know the family had to be disappointed. They victim blamed her throughout that entire episode and that poor girl was murdered. The daughters behave as teenage girls and the mother is no better, actually it’s pointless to have her on the pod cast bc she contributes absolutely nothing but irrelevant and idiotic comments. They give just anybody a mic smh. Don’t waste your time with this one, even the research is lackluster.

I found this Podcast a few months ago, I am hooked I literally went back as far as I could! I lost 30 lbs while walking listening to you all! And Momma Nikki is THEE best to ever do it, she is undefeated! Thank you ladies for being the best and keeping us all engaged! I’m sad I listened to the last episode :( keep it up the wonderful work!

This podcast is in my top 3! I’m hooked and always waiting for the next episode. Kristen & Kayla make it fun, interesting, and relatable listening to each case. I love when Momma Nikki is in the building; her commentary, laughter, and quick wit bring the comedy. Such a great black true crime podcast. They’re always my first listen. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for the next one

Why was mama Nikki added again?
I love the podcast but ever since mama Nikki has become a permanent fixture I don’t listen anymore! I love her but her voice is annoying and she interrupts too much , too much dude talk and ridiculous banter and insensitive jokes, references and justifications… please please please go back to Kristen and Kayla and mama Nikki every now and then like before … I see a lot of comments saying they don’t care for her on the show so why keep her? Do you guys not want to exclude her to save her feelings orrrrrr?! I’m just trying to understand… at any rate! I saw you guys on a murder doc and I was so proud of you!

I just found your podcast and I’m in love. I love ya all 4 of ya. I put ya on for my 10 hour shifts I can’t get enough of this podcast. Keep up the great work
  • But I digress ..
    So Good!
Straight fire! Kayla breaks down the cases like she’s reading our minds, saying what we’re all thinking. The chemistry between the crew? Absolutely wild. Love how it stays family-oriented while still keeping it real. Black women killing it in this space—nothing but respect. Y'all killin it! - no pun intended.

    Not For Me
I love true crime, but there is too much going on in this podcast. From the side conversations, jokes, interrupting each other, and meaningless banter, I just couldn’t get into it.
  • Upset annoyed frustrated mad
    It’s good but….
The young lady who tells the story is excellent I appreciate the sound quality. However, I’m not sure about the other two voices I hear. I find at least one of them to be extremely obnoxious and providing unnecessary commentary that doesn’t go with the seriousness the main person uses when discussing these cases. I only listen on occasion but I realize that’s why. As I’m listening, I believe it’s the newest voice I’m hearing that I find to be obnoxious. Maybe let’s keep the two original voices?
  • Jking334
    I tried to like it
I tried to like the podcast because i love true crime but it’s way to much giggling and laughing and at serious topics . It’s almost like teenagers are running this podcast. Mom almost adds no input to the actual discussion. She isn’t needed. Also wish yall would research the topics more

    Def top 5
Mama Nikki, is my fav her banter & laughter gets me going EVERY time!! I love the storytelling & the banter between Kristen & Kayla. Definitely feels like I’m in the room with them. Keep up the good work!! I highly recommend you guys every chance I get!

    I’m Hooked
After reading some people’s comments, I can see a lot of them missed the disclaimer that is said “this isn’t for everyone”. Anywho! I have to say that I absolutely love this podcast. The side comments and banter. The different opinions and all make it very interesting. Something that I love. I will be tuning in for more and more episodes!!

    True Crime Fail
I was excited to listen to true crime from another podcast that offered a Black perspective and cases. My excitement quickly turned to shock and disgust when I hear the banter and jokes about everything from a victims name to these horrific crimes. It’s like someone allowed very immature teenagers a microphone and said “go make a crime podcast”. They are very lighthearted to be discussing murder and violence. I only hope nobody associate with victims or families ever comes upon this farce of a show! Do better or shut this foolishness down!
  • Honest/opinion
    Find another true crime podcast
I’ve listened to one full episode & maybe 5 minutes of another episode to know this is not for me. I think the lead host (don’t know her name) is here for jokes instead of providing information about the actual crimes.
  • Nishagirl79
    My Fav💕
You know it’s good, when you get sad cause you only have 5 episodes left to listen too! This has got to be my favorite podcast ever. It’s giving my sister and I, and momma Nikki is the cutest. I love her and find myself literally laughing out loud with her input.
  • ilovebrooky
    disappointed
the jokes about sa in the recent nathan dunlap episode were absolutely sick.
  • jazzmennn
    imo
this podcast could be so much better if kristen was the lead host and researcher. even better if it was her solo. most of the time she’s open-minded, sensitive and understanding of the topic. i find kayla to be annoying, obnoxious and bitter. the mom offers the occasional informative input, but she adds nothing to the episodes and just takes up space in the story, which is mad annoying. as for the content, the research+delivery is mid at best. i’ve listened to every episode and still would never recommend to anyone. i will no longer listen to the podcast. ep 158 commentary about autism is so off-base and ignorant, it’s repulsive. do better or don’t make public content. apparently tons of other reviewers feel the same way… i recommend: sistas who kill it’s the mystery for me i ain’t a killa black girl gone

I wanted to love this show!!!!
I was so excited when I cam across this podcast. But quickly disappointed when all I was hearing was side banter and laughter. Wayyyy to much. Could barley get 5 mins into the story without being interrupted with laughter, side comment or something ridiculous. Maybe try a different type of podcast but true crime isn’t the place for that.
  • Deedee👑
    It’s a no for me
I was suggested this podcast and wanted to give it chance because … Black people. However the first ep I started on was the “Deliverance” ep and it’s not a podcast for me. So much banter and cut offs and joking around. Makes it sound like a comedy podcast instead a serious true crime one. Too much side convos.
  • Gagafufu123
Too much giggling and side banter
I wanted to like and support this channel so bad.. But there is too much giggling, side banter, and inconsistencies while telling the stories. It’s like true crime with a side of ADHD. They are good stories though!, some I’ve never heard of.

I feel like the demons wanted her because in the movie she was consistently drinking and the father left for an unclear reason but it was related to her. I know they call alcohol “spirits” so I wonder if that made her venerable to the demons.

    One of my favs!
I truly enjoy listening to these ladies and their unique approach to presenting True Crime cases paired with their relatable banter. I also love when Mama Nikki joins, she’s hilarious and reminds you of your own mother. Keep up the great work and never conform to what others may want you to do, you ladies have a great thing going! Many blessings to you!
  • Highly Happy
    All bad.
I wanted to enjoy this podcast, but it’s just very tasteless. Sensitive matter should be dealt with in sensitive ways. It’s a lot of desensitization happening within the conversations and it shows when you can’t even take your missing husbands, brother seriously. I get everyone wants to find their niche, but the topics of this podcast might not be it for you group of women.. Also, the mom is coming off childish.
  • Goldi3King
    Listen for yourself
I wanted to love this podcast but couldn’t. There’s entirely too much giggling for my liking and though I love that they include their mom, I just can’t listen to those episodes. I’ve tried three separate times over the course of six months and still just can’t… It’s just not my cup of tea, but don’t let my review keep you from listening. This may be the show for you. This is just my opinion. I do hope that they find the right audience and continue to be successful.
