Murder In The Black

M.D. and STEPH are sisters who share a passion for true crime. They are committed to highlighting stories within the black community that often do not receive the attention they deserve. This has led them to create a platform where these stories can be shared on a weekly basis through their podcast. Drawing on her legal expertise, M.D. provides the legal context of each case, while Steph delves into the details concerning the victims and occasionally the perpetrators. By tuning in weekly, listeners can expect to learn about lesser-known crime cases and gain a deeper understanding of the cases

Unfortunately I’m unfollowing. You literally copy and paste other black true crime podcast episodes as your own. U listen to them a week prior and cover the very same case the following week. Unoriginal do better. E.g SWK recorded an episode about U’Dreka on 2/7 here it is 3/6 and you all post her story as well!

I feel bad about this one
I really want to start off by saying I appreciate you ladies effort and dedication to the podcast. I also appreciate your efforts to get these stories out. I used to love listening to you all. Then you all got a “subscription” option, I get it we all want to receive something. Nothing is free and there are things that go into making a podcast. However, you all are covering stories later than other black podcasts and a good majority of the newer episodes are for subscribers only. Unfortunately you all aren’t really producing enough that I haven’t heard already.

    I wanted to like this…
Come ladies!!! Please learn the proper way to pronounce words that are obviously not a part of your every day vocabulary. It is pla-ton-ic not play-tonic. It’s also sparse and not spay-rse. Also, is this podcast a history lesson instead of crime? What was all the Black Mecca talk and if I had to hear it again…I wish there was an email because I would have loved to email as opposed to posting a review. I prefer to keep “our” business our business, but I just could not keep listening….

Solo episodes are best but great nonetheless
I absolutely love this show and the way it shines a light on bringing justice to those that are treated invisible. Also very little commercials which makes for easy listening. I specifically only listen to the episodes with just Steph or just MD. Both ladies are great, I just find it more distracting and less engaging when they stray off topic or start joking. But great podcast!

    Too Subjective and repetitiveness
I like the subject of the stories but too many opinions in between the story telling and sometimes repeating the same topic or stay on the same topic too long. I seen a lot of these stories on TV and heard on other podcast shows but I always wanted to hear it from a black perspective when it comes to black stories. And the Marlissa story is something that they are not being real about. False pregnancy test is not what I believe happened. I believe she played the game that a lot of girls and even grown women play and that is to say they are pregnant to prevent the boy or man from leaving them.

    Very Good Podcast
I was looking to find something new to listen to. I’m so glad I found this! It’s good to hear a podcast that gives facts first and opinions second. I also like when you advise younger listeners that if you see something say something because it really could save a life. One of my new faves!

    Love the show
I absolutely love how sisters Steph & M.D collaborate . Their voices are relaxing, the ladies sound well educated when speaking and they do not over talk each other. Also I love that they cover cases that I am aware of but I ALWAYS LEARN SOMETHING NEW . I like that the seasons are themed and they enjoy viewer thoughts

    Top Notch Story Telling!
One of the things I love most about this podcast is how detailed and well-researched each episode is. Steph and MD take the time to dive deep into every case, presenting the facts clearly and engagingly. They have a way of keeping you hooked, balancing suspense with compassion for the victims and their families. If you're looking for a true crime podcast that offers more than just surface-level stories, this one is for you. Keep up the good work ladies!

    Keep up the good work.
I have been listening to you guys for a while now and I love how you all have evolved over time. You guys are good at telling the story and you also get to learn a little bit about the legal side of things from MD! I hate I’m all caught up because now I just have to wait each week for new things to come out. All in all, keep doing what you do! I will definitely keep listening.

    Great Podcast
I really enjoy this podcast!!! I listen it to it during my 8 hour shift as a pharmacy technician while getting through my day. I even shared it with my coworker. You guys keep me engaged and tuned in for the next episode!! Thank You!

    I love it here.
Okay this is like talking to my sisters except my actual sisters aren’t into true crime.. annoying. So I’m SO glad y’all are here to kiki with me. We even say things at the same time and that cracks me up. I listen on Spotify but I came here so I could ask.. Can y’all do a collab with Sistas Who Kill so my Black true crime heart can be warmed? Think about it! 🖤

Hey yall. Your #1 fan Romantic here. 🫶🏾 I love this podcast. It feels like Steph & MD are my internet aunties and we’re just sitting around chatting about true crime. I’ve been listening to this podcast since the beginning and I absolutely can’t get enough. The growth has been tremendous and it gets better with each episode. As someone who is currently getting their masters in forensic science, I appreciate you guys taking the time to get these stories out there. We need more black people in these spaces whether it be forensics, criminal justice, or simply just true crime podcasting/journalism. Thank you for sharing and I can’t wait to see what God does for this podcast in the new year. ❤️

    Keep us the great work.
I really enjoy True Crime overall. I enjoy listening to y’all and have been for a while now. I even saw the episode on Oxygen’s A Plan to Kill that you were featured on. I knew it was you without reading the caption because I recognized your voice.

Definitely one of my top 5 favs. I love how professional and respectful you ladies are and I love that we get a little law knowledge in each episode along with the true crime. I recommend this podcast to everyone I know. Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next episode ☺️

    So much growth!
I’ve been here since the beginning and I will say the amount of growth in this podcast is what keeps me coming back. I love that it’s a family affair. THE MOST CONSISTENT PODCAST in my eyes. I never miss an episode!! Love you girls. Thank you for creating this safe space.

    Great show
Sisters telling crime stories, what could be better! They do an amazing job of handling the sensitive and disturbing material with reverence and respect but also keeping us interested. Since finding this show I’ve been hooked and listen almost daily!

    Keep going!
Hello ladies, I just listened to the first episode with Anthony Sowell(so-well) and I want to say you ladies did a good job on this case. Being that I am from Cleveland. I do remember this happening in real time. Someone I know actually still lives on that street. Everyone knows in Cleveland imperial Street. I remember my father writing us past Anthony’s house after he got caught. It had a 10 foot plus gate around the house and you can just feel the tragedy that happened there. Not sure if you guys mentioned it because I am in the middle of the second part, but his house has been knocked down and I believe they turned it into a garden area. I could be wrong, but keep it up. Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the episodes that two ladies have. Ok bye thankkkksssss

    Little research done
I’ve followed this show almost 8 months ago . It does not seem like these ladies or better yet the MAIN HOST doesn’t do any real research . Just watching a documentary and not doing more research doesn’t seem fair to listeners. Then to subscribe for $3.99 a month to get the same mediocre “research “ seems more scam like . There are many cases I had to research to get more information. There is no passion I what you are doing , seems like a job you hate . Had to unfollow and request a refund. This terrible podcast motivated me to start my own podcast because there are people like me who enjoy these type of podcasts WITH ALL THE DETAILS!

Please do mic checks before publishing especially when you are requiring subscriptions for episodes. This week’s recording was hard to listen to
  • Kbundles
    I’m out of tries!
I’ve been trying to listen and wanted to like it, but it’s seems like they don’t fully research the cases and talk in circles, with mostly opinions, instead of real facts, to reach a time mark. Also the “take aways”… if they aren’t going to be substantial, or one person provides one and the other piggybacks, consider axing that portion. I was surprised to see they had subscriptions. The final straw was Reuploading this Steve McNair episode with the sound issues. Please try a little harder to produce factual information and a quality podcast.

    Struggle to listen
This podcast needs so much work!! I love true crime so I’ve been trying to give this one a chance but I can’t. Mispronouncing words, it’s sounds choppy the editing is bad. It gives rushed vibes every time. The lack of research on the cases, even spelling the names of victims wrong like Lanell Barsock. I can’t believe y’all have a subscription base. I tried to support but this is me supporting with this review. Please try harder it has potential but y’all have so much work to do. Came back to edit cause I tried to listen AGAIN. Y’all read these reviews but still recording episodes and can’t pronounce victims names. Between Jarib and Cornelius I turned it off. It’s horrible! the stuttering over words, pauses cause you don’t know what your were about to say. Like I can’t believe y’all charge people to listen. I hope those episodes are better maybe it’s the free ones that y’all don’t care about.

The past 2 episodes have sounded blotchy I def love this podcast! Keep up the good work
  • Steph Broden
    Keep up the good work
I’ve been here since the beginning , the podcast is great and has improved throughout the seasons. If you’re not into side commentaries this isn’t for you, that’s ok! I love the side stories and take always, your spin on telling true crime is unmatched ! Keep up the good work❤️❤️

    Episode: ‘the cousins betrayal’
‘Highland park’ is not a park in Detroit. It’s a side of town. Just providing context.
  • Lmlathan
    Not impressed
As an avid true crime listener this can be better. The podcast lacks substance and is very opinion driven. It sounds like the speakers are reading from a script & there’s minimal dialogue. The editing could be better it’s choppy

    Needs Improvement
I’m a huge true crime fan and any time I see a podcast that is geared towards black true crime I’m like YES! This podcast has potential but there are many things that make me turn it off. One-the mispronunciation of words and names. If you are going to tell a victim’s story, you have to respect it enough to make sure you are saying their name correctly. Two-research is lacking. This ties into number one…if you research you’ll know the correct pronunciation of words and names. Also, I’ve listened to some of these cases on other podcasts and this podcast is not giving all the information. RESEARCH! I hope they read these reviews and take them to heart.

    Hard to listen
I listen to this show occasionally and even checked out a few subscriber episodes but please work on your storytelling. The main speaker talk in circles a lot. She also mispronounces things frequently. A few of the stories aren’t researched well. I find myself zoning out then looking down realizing the entire podcast past and I don’t remember anything that was said. I think this podcast has a lot of potential to improve but they aren’t ready to focus on paid subscription just yet.
  • Mjay22Fa
    Too rushed
Many of the true crime stories that are covered on this podcast can be found on other black true crime podcast as well. Whenever I listen to other black true crime podcast reporting the same stories, I get a more in depth explanations on what happened. So my 3 stars is simply due to the fact that the stories on this podcast can seem very rushed as if there’s more information out there but you all have chosen to omit it.

I’m a big fan of true crime and I love your podcast, thanks for sharing stories thus far and spreading awareness. Keep up the amazing work!

    mispronouncing words
couldn’t even get through an episode ,to even charge people for this is insane. on top of mispronouncing words we can tell you’re reading a script and can’t even do it smoothly.

    One of my favorite podcasts
I found MIB at the beginning of the year and it quickly became my go to Crime Podcast. It is only receiving 3 stars now because they are now mostly catering to their paid subscribers and not their original fan base. Most podcasts do both. They will either release the podcasts earlier to subscribers and later to the free platform. Since they started the paid subscription the majority of the new episodes are paid. This platform now only receives maybe two a month (if that)
  • Patricia in CO
Better Black true crime out there.
Intolerable, inaccurate. Instead of extrapolating their opinion about Black true crime out into the population they could do research. They are verifiable false repeatedly.

    LOVE it
Definitely in my top 3 favorite podcasts, I LOVEEEEE Steph and MD , I be talking back to the podcast like we all together 😭🤣 10/10 definitely RECOMMEND ❤️

    About the Podcast
I am glad to have discovered this amazing team of Step and MD I love their delivery on bringing each episode with a little history as a OTR truck driver it’s hard to find good podcasts that just get to the point. The only thing I hate is WAITING for the next episode. Keep up the good work 👍

    Good stories that need editing
Stories are conversational and not too graphite the narrator uses so many words incorrectly. Sometimes I just have to stop listening because I’m making so many corrections in my head.
  • Muffyyyy
    Hard to listen to
I’ve tried to listen to this show over the seasons but it’s become unbearable. I enjoyed that they covered cases that other podcasts didn’t and the research that went into it. However, Steph and her mispronunciations are killing me! I don’t understand why it’s so hard to take the time to learn how to properly pronounce certain words and names. A script would definitely be helpful for all the ‘ums’ and dead air. I’ve tried but I can’t do it anymore!
  • Jma4567
    Okay
Recounting an episode of the first 48 in my opinion does not qualify for research. Seems lazy to me.
