Being human is so hard. We know so much more about how hard it is today because of access to information and the bold-faced ways in which we mistreat each other and our world. I have loved Rainey from the first day I heard that beautiful voice in my ear buds, but I didn’t know how much I also needed her tenderness and optimism. In this economy?! I was not prepared for how quickly listening would evoke deep emotion and thought. Rainie is a true gem and her eagerness to embrace life and all it’s wonder and hardships is truly touching. This body of work from her is worth your time, I promise.

It’s hard not to hear Terry Gross and Ira Glass in Rainy Toll’s deft interview style. Her inquisitiveness, humor, and empathy put guests at ease and lead to great interviews that are a joy to listen to. Despite these all-star public radio comparisons, Rainy has a style and voice that’s all her own, and it’s exciting to see her step fully into her own creative element with this show. These episodes are short, but I find I need some downtime after listening to contemplate what I just heard and absorb it — the opposite of our usual disposable modern digital culture. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a thought provoking, emotionally probing interview show.

Rainie, so glad you’ve started this pod!! You’ve always been such a wonderful interviewer and so thoughtful in your questioning. Episode 1 had me almost in tears. Thanks for exploring these tough themes for us and with us. Only suggestion would be to introduce which guest is talking before they speak so we can get some context when they delve in deeper. I’m excited to see where this heads :)

The first episode hits home with the questions that everyone has, but is too afraid to ask. The different stories and perspectives is wonderful, and this podcast is a nice little philosophical break from the world.
