Lawless

240

By the spring of 2005, a severely disabled Florida woman named Terri Schiavo had lived in a dark, tiny hospice room for four years. On the morning of March 18, Terri was sitting up in a chair, unhooked to machines of any kind. Her aunt and sister were visiting. As Terri listened to them talk, she was smiling. She had no idea that the State of Florida was about to dehydrate her to death. Lawless is a true crime podcast that examines a frightening fact of American life: That not every crime is against the law. Season 2 completes WORLD's investigation of the 2005 story that riveted the world: the case of Terri Schiavo, a brain-injured woman whose husband and parents fought a bitter legal war over Terri’s right to die, or…. right to live.

    Repetitious
Great way to hear the same story with a massive bias over and over again.

Great podcast format - Keep doing it! More Cases!
I was halfway though the episodes when I realized it was the anniversary of Terry's death. I was aware of it at the time but the podcast shed so much light on it. So tragic. Thank you for your great work. I hope you continue this podcast with another true crime case of the "not every crime is against the law" type. It's riveting. The only podcast I've ever binged on!

    Thank you
I just heard about this podcast & am so happy that it’s being talked about. This event has always disturbed me, but there were a lot of details that I wasn’t even aware of. Thank you for sharing this story. God bless Terri’s family 💕

    Thank you!
Gosh I remember this story so vividly!!! God rest Terri's soul and bless her family! And I don't think of blessing Michael. I should. I don't! Great podcast!!

    Heart breaking
I hope the murderers are haunted by what they did to Terri every day of their lives. Shame on grifter Jesse Jackson.

    So well done!
This podcast is educational, entertaining and so well done. It ought to make every listener grieve as it shines a light at just how arbitrary our standards of a right to be/stay alive are.

    Intriguing, thorough.
My wife and I barely remembered this case when we were kids. While listening we discuss about the nuances of the case. Excellent production, thorough journalism.

    Thank you
These episodes gave us a behind the scenes look into what happened while leaving the listener to draw their own conclusions. This is thoughtful and professional journalism. I hope to take what I’ve learned to help me value life more than I do, to help me be a better citizen, and mostly to glorify God in how I think about and respond to these issues and the people involved in them.

    Terri’s Tapestry
World does a brilliant job of unraveling the strands that make up the tapestry of this case. It’s caused lots of good discussions in my family about life and death and our own end-of-kids wishes.

    Waning Interest
I very much appreciate the title of this podcast. I think it’s taking way too long to tell this story. Too many other things call. Wish you had been faster - not spread out over one year, and still moseying along.

    Excellent!!
Well done! The story telling is phenomenal and the editing is out of this world. You can tell you all put a lot of work into this. And the story of Terri Schiavo is respectfully told. Keep up the great work!

I couldn’t stop listening after episode one. Excellent narrative and presentation of facts and perspectives missed or ignored during the saga.

I enjoyed the storytelling, the information seems well researched. However I don’t like all of the sound effects and music clips, I found them to be excessive, annoying and distracting.

A good look at the groundbreaking court decision and it’s cultural impact of the “Right to Die”.

    Excellent reporting and storytelling
During the height of the Shindler v Schiavo battle I was 12. I remember Terri’s name but either due to age, or inadequate msm reporting I had no idea the complexities of this case. Things were not at all as they appeared or how I remembered. I learned about the Lawless podcast today, I now have a cleaner home and have completely finished season 1. Now I’m wondering when season 2 will air? Why did Judge Greer seem to be so biased? What did his being SBC have to do with anything? He seemed to act inconsistent with his faith. Why did so many courts refuse to hear the case? Why did Michael refuse to allow Terri’s parents to care for her? Did he seem sadistic to anyone else? Why did the Schindler family not get a mistrial for an attorney that clearly sympathized with Michael Schiavo ? The list goes on….

    Lawless
I love almost all of the World podcasts and I had really high hopes for this one, but the format is all over the place! The timeline is confusing! I do really like World’s new podcast, Doubletake, which I love and recommend.
  • bwalters13
    Slow and confusing
I love the World and everything in it, and some of the spin off podcasts. But, this one is not great. The story is one worth hearing, but the production value is poor. Especially compared to mainstream true crime podcasts, this just doesn’t hold up. The sound effects are annoying. The timeline is all over the place and all the constant lead-ons to “big reveals “ to keep people listening. No. Just make the story compelling and people will keep listening. Don’t try to make a big deal out of a small thing to manipulate people to keep listening.

    Slow
The concept of this podcast is interesting and some of the continent is very enlightening, too. However, the podcast is very slow-moving. The details are long and laborious and not always pertinent. The musical interlude‘s are many and use up content time, not adding context, and not always fitting to the mood of the narrative. Sometimes the music is corny, as in, “Pretty Woman” being loud enough in the background to drown out the spoken words. If the story could be sped up a little bit, and the musical interludes fewer and less obtrusive, I would continue listening and give it another try. So far, I have found the Saturday podcasts to have these issues. I was very interested in the content of Effective Compassion, but I found myself having to fast forward through the podcast because of the aforementioned idiosyncrasies. I very much enjoy The news broadcasts of The World and Everything in it. I hesitate to write any negative feedback, but I truly hope that it is helpful so that you will have more listeners sticking with these podcasts. Thank you.

    Hype and More Hype
This production crams 10 minutes of material into 30+ minutes. Too much innuendo is used for my liking. Subject matter is worth investigation but this effort is more concerned with teasers, etc. Don’t plan on listening to season 2.

    Fascinating

I love this podcast! But I do have one question what will you do after the Terry Schiavo case?
  • elbarriobigbeanburrito
    Obsessed
I’m so invested in the story and can’t wait to listen to the next episode. I just binged all the past episodes yesterday. It’s a fascinating tagline: Not every crime is against the law. I can’t wait to hear more of this podcast, and I hope you do more seasons after this one.

    Lawless hits the mark.
This series is engaging and accurate in reporting the facts around the tragic events of this infamous story. Lynn has done a superb job in gaining facts and stories (and clear about those who wouldn’t cooperate in her research). Looking forward to her finishing the story once she is recovered from her challenges.

Thank you for this amazing story and investigation! It is good to hear this upsetting topic from a trustworthy source with a Biblical foundation .

    Can’t recommend
I want to love this podcast but the story line is the only thing keeping me coming back. Unfortunately it is very jumpy and hard to fallow. I find myself rewinding over and over because I lost track of who is being spoken about or who is talking. Every episode jumps back and forth between different years sometimes mutable times in a few minutes making it difficult to know what happened when. I have always enjoyed all of WORLDs radio content but sadly this is not one I would tell others about as I find myself only listening because I am hooked on the plot.

    Bravo Lynn!
I’ve read several of Lynn’s books! I knew she was an outstanding writer but learned quickly that she also has a gift of narrating! She makes you feel present. She’s clear and concise. I’m going to enjoy listening to this podcast as I learn the truth about the Terri Schiavo case.

Good Prologue to an Important Series
In the hands of the World News Group, especially with Lynn Vincent leading this series exploring the Terri Schiavo case more deeply that it has been investigated before, listeners can be certain that unbiased truth will be presented and facts will be uncovered with journalistic objectivity, courage, and integrity. The "Prologue" provided a fine introduction to the series, orienting the listener with what to expect in subsequent episodes in a matter-of-fact manner without any hint of sensationalism (not WNG's style in any of the organization's products). The only element of this introductory episode that I would urge the producers to reconsider is the upbeat music that begins at 21:33 to accompany the credits and sign-off; something more contemplative would be more fitting for the subject matter.

I always wondered what the real stories
I am glad to know that more research about the story is being shared, and even better that it is such a gripping podcast!!
