-c petersUnreal to listen toI am literally eight minutes into the first podcast and can’t believe how much fun I am having. At this point I don’t know if this is satire or if this is done as a documentary but I don’t care. It’s absolutely entertaining and exciting and fabulous, much like most of the work that he does. Now finished. My final answer? Nearly as entertaining as the movie itself. I’ve referred this to 100 people already. So great!!!

NancyGLove itIf you’ve seen the movie, you really need to listen to how it was made. It’s fun and thoughtful and I finished it in two days. Even the ads are great. And of course be sure to listen past the credits of the last episode.

morningview71A thoughtful knockout!I knew I would find stars like Meryl and Ariana Grande interesting, but I didn’t expect to love hearing from the crew just as much! I felt like I knew these people. So impressed. Will be recommending to friends!

Bookywormy101Incredible listen- even if you hated the filmThis podcast is not only a major behind the scenes look at the making of “Don’t Look Up” , it also serves as a record of the pandemic and how artists made art during the fears, anxiety, and everlasting unknown that was the year 2020. As a film lover, and a huge Adam McKay fan, I had been so excited for this podcast. It has exceeded my expectations. Not only is it incredibly well written and narrated, it tackles major themes beyond production which anyone can relate to (yes, even if you absolutely hated the movie!). Highly highly recommend, and props to the team behind this one!!!!!

D CaganThe Making of Don’t Look UpI loved the film: a hilarious comedy with a troubling message that won’t let you go. So I jumped at the chance to listen to a podcast about the making of the film and I was not disappointed. It has everything you’d expect: the genesis of the film; interesting anecdotes about the production; and extensive interviews with Adam McKay and the entire ensemble cast. But the thing that keeps buzzing in the back of my head is: this film is actually happening right now! Sometimes it takes a comedy to pierce through our layers of denial. Recommended.

Flat(note)landDo Listen UpSuper entertaining experiment inside the belly of this film’s production during a time when it was questionable if anyone was going to be working on films. It’s shaping up to be a how-to-do-it, a why-to-do-it, and a who-to-call-to-do-it.

Josephina84Something doesn’t add upLoved the movie and the pod is entertaining and hits on some important themes. BUT it’s really hard to hear a female production crew member crying about literally being separated from her child for weeks and weeks when I’m pretty Leo had his girlfriend on set with him??? There were paparazzi articles about them shopping at some Italian market in Boston? So SOME people had to follow COVID protocol. But not everyone huh.

SkullShackA Very Special Endeavor in FilmmakingThis is a quite fascinating podcast that every movie student, movie producer, movie director, movie actor, movie buff, movie historian, and anyone who is either in the movie industry or anyone who loves movies, should listen to. I believe this podcast/documentary will go down in the annals of movie history and will be something reviewed by movie students hundreds of years from now (plz comment if you are reading this in 2220..cos I’m dead long ago but need that affirmation anyway. Thx ;) The genius writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) once opined that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life". Wow! He rally nailed it when it comes to this film. What started out as a biting satire of some humans’ denial to recognize the scientific facts of Global Warming, evolved into a movie script that was actually satirized by real events that became even more extreme and more unbelievable than human denial. If you listen to this podcast you’ll find that Producer Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Land of the Lost, Drunk History, The Dictator, et al) had to revise the original script to be even *more* absurd and over the top that what was actually happening in real life. In the end, he achieved something that was not over the top, but instead is a precise balance between what was really happening pre 2020 and what IS really happening today. Talk about great timing and synchronicity right? Why is this an excellent study of moviemaking? Well, the creation of a movie is not simple in the first place. There are so many moving parts to the movie production process and all those parts must be carefully arranged and synchronized to produce the final result. It’s not easy. Nor is the process ever a routine one because there are always unique circumstances that may affect production. Add to that the very unusual predicament that the transmission of a deadly virus, COVID-19, that Humankind finds itself within during the production of this film (2019-2021), and you have a whole new layer of movie production challenges never documented before. This podcast is a very interesting insight into not only how the initial script was affected, but also an insight into how so many people (actors, makeup artists, wardrobe specialists, cameramen, lighting specialists, et al) were affected by this, and who all came together as a group, who are not only people who are passionate about the filmmaking process, but those people who made sacrifices and who worked together so as to not endanger their fellow man. There is not one person involved in the filming process who were not affected by this. Even (as you’ll hear) the people involved in the music/score production of this film contributed in unique ways to make this film a success. Everyone involved in the shooting of this film were quarantined to a “NO COVID” zone. Ironically, per filmmaking, there may have been some things that were more easily accomplished due to the isolation and focus due to the very strict control over actors and supporting staff. I look forward to hearing from Adam McKay, and the rest of his filmmaking staff/regulars,the rest of this story, and as a lesson to future filmmakers, what, if anything, was easier to accomplish during the lockdown and isolation, per the process of filmmaking. I would not be surprised that many lessons learned by this amazing filmmaking team are carried on into future filmmaking processes. And that is why, whether you are just a fan of films or you are someone inspired by the filmmaking process, you must listen to this very special and unique podcast. Oh, and BTW, Earth WILL eventually be hit by an asteroid and destroyed (as t approaches infinity) so, plan accordingly and, in the interim, please be good to your fellow man.

5poguesMakes a good movie even better!Watched the movie on Netflix release date and definite thumbs up. But this—adds a layer of irony, humor and profundity I’m not sure a Hollywood release could ever accomplish. Raw, intelligent, witty, and full of unexpected wisdom! This is what you get when you add magic to the behind-the-scenes of a McKay creative project. Bravo podcast-producers: you mined the “precious minerals” lol.
