Upfront About Breast Cancer – What You Don't Know Until You Do, with Dr Charlotte Tottman

6

Dr Charlotte Tottman established her own private practice in psycho oncology, providing psychological treatment for cancer-related distress, before being diagnosed with breast cancer herself, giving Charlotte’s understanding of a cancer experience a whole new dimension. Despite the circumstances, Charlotte’s own diagnosis and clinical experience enables her to connect with those who are going through comparable situations, giving them a place to reflect and relate, and learn to navigate and better understand psychological discomfort in a cancer space. Throughout the podcast series we have meaningful conversations about many topics, including the initial shock of diagnosis, emotional isolation, and coming to terms with those who show up, and those who may not during your journey, body image difficulties, how cancer changes your overall perception of life, the impact on sexuality and intimacy, and fear of cancer recurrence.   Charlotte’s own vulnerability is evident in each of the episodes, which lay out her lived experience, provide explanations of psychological triggers and responses, and practical strategies that may help someone on their own cancer journey. We recommend that listeners exercise self-care when listening to this podcast, as some may find the content upsetting. Excellent Resource for those facing a breast cancer diagnosis
I was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma that is malignant in November. I have had a lumpectomy and will be undergoing radiation and taking estrogen blockers very soon. This podcast is a life-saver for people like me who have received a recent breast cancer diagnosis. While there is lots of technical medical information in some of the episodes, I found the talks about the emotional aspects of dealing with breast cancer the most helpful. I have shared several episodes with friends and family and the advice for partners and spouses has been invaluable. I told my Radiation doctor and Oncologist that this podcast was “saving my life” right now. To have such a valuable resource available whether you live in Australia or the Pacific Northwest in the USA as I do, is a gift. Thank you Dr. Charlotte and everyone at BCNA for providing this valuable resource, you are changing lives for the better!

    Fabulous podcast on breast cancer
This podcast was so helpful for me. I found it after I had finished treatment but it was still extremely relevant. The two hosts are awesome and very relatable and knowledgeable. They go over everything from first being diagnosed to what happens once treatment ends. Highly recommend!
