Agnes M. M.SolidFor the most part, a solid show. It is not a regular part of my rotation, but I check in from time to time and it is usually worthwhile.
-
polyphonicbagelgoodIt’s a good podcast. Sometimes, the research is not as deep as one might hope. The host is lively, the topics mostly interesting. I’d put it in the top 20% of history pods I’ve listened to repeatedly.

bayns!Love this podcast!!I’ve been listening to this podcast since its inception, thanks to The Bowery Boys! The topics are always so interesting, the guests always so knowledgeable, and i just love how Carl packs so much information into each episode! I also find the rhythm of his voice to be very relaxing and engaging, and he has a story-telling like quality to his intro’s which I absolutely love. Thanks, Carl!! Keep up the great work!!

Marie Marie 🙂Gilded pleasure!I came across this podcast by happenstance not knowing exactly what I wanted but knowing it included Edith Wharton and the time period she writes about. I typed in a few key words and this little golden nugget showed up. I decided (as I was working on a home project) to start from episode 1 and just continue on. I love this podcast. So well done and so thorough. I have recommended to friends and family. Love love LOVE! Keep them coming please! 🧡

FairwindsOKIGreat presentation of an fascinating periodAs a huge fan of Edith Wharton, I am so glad to have found this podcast. I thoroughly enjoy Carl Raymond’s presentation style. Each episode is fascinating and well written. I have learned a great deal that has only supported my appreciation of the era.

Anita - RStyle pointMr. Raymond - you must learn to phrase your interview questions to your guests better and more smoothly instead of always saying to your guests "Can you talk about..." ... this or that - it's a grammatically and conversationally poor lead-in. And you repeat it to the point of distraction, jumping and changing from topic to topic. The historical info is good, just a style point. Have you done a show on Gilded Age gentlemen's reading rooms? I used to live across the street from the one in Newport RI.

pmac60Appreciate all of the research!I really enjoy this podcast. It was watching the Gilded Age that first got me interested in the real life history of this time period and now I can’t get enough! Suggestion: the music during the first 7+ minutes is much too loud. It should be more of a quiet background to the story but instead it’s at the same audio level. It comes across as overpowering.

headed outGreat PodcastI love how you bring history to life. I’m really enjoying this podcast and have listened almost everyone. Thank you for providing it.

DSFL123Dr. Linda TribuzioFascinating! Can’t wait to go on one if Keith’s tours! Amazed to hear that you would have liked to live in Cyrus West Field’s house (was at 1 Lexington)! Field was the ancestor of my niece’s husband! Wonder if Ruffles family is connected to Ruffles Ave. in Newport Rhode Island?

AnneLAstorLike a quick catch-up on Gilded Age gossip over teaI love listening to this podcast. It feels like I am invited to a group to gossip on the history of the Gilded Age as a friend. After listening to this podcast I feel life has a glint of gold in it.

Monrad TouhyEdith Wharton’s Age of Innocence with Dr Emily OrlandoThis is the first podcast I’ve listened to from The Gilded Gentleman and it was terrific!! Did not know much about Wharton but with Dr Olando providing insight and details I learned so much. Will be reading The Age of Innocence in the near future and listening to future podcasts from the Gilded Gentleman in the future. Would love to take a class with Dr Olando she was fantastic!!

cubanita#1Wonderful!Well-researched and fascinating pod. I LOVED the Edith Wharton episode The Age of Innocence is one of my all time faves and listening to the historian talk about it and Edith W was so gratifying. At one point it is mentioned that EW is “no Jane Austen,” and I say THANK GOD! EW’s stories are so real, her prose, exquisite. The stark reality of her stories is wrapped in layers and you need to peel them away one by one to appreciate the complexity of the human nature that she is conveying. I appreciate her subtleties, her gorgeous descriptions. Thank you for this wonderful conversation.

IPO001Smart AND entertainingI loved the very first episode I listened to, with Carla L Peterson the author of Black Gotham. It’s so nice to find a podcast that is entertaining and smart and the same time. Great work!

While I enjoy the HBO series on gilded age New York, I get positively giddy whenever I see that a new episode of this podcast has dropped. The topics are both eclectic and well-researched. -
Ruth DempseyThe Delmonico WayAn awesome episode! Mr. Tucci is a wonderful storyteller! I hope the book becomes an Audiobook and reads it! Love the show
-
E. ZeldaJust wonderful!Gilded Gentleman is just a pleasure to listen to. Carl is the most fluent narrator of fascinating tales of characters and events of The Gilded Age. I listen to each episode at least twice and prize the “extras” I get from his Patreon stream.
-
4d myndInformative and funI love the format, the information, the history, and the charm. I look forward to each new episode.
-
ms sierraAn incredible womanLoved this episode on Bertha Palmer. I hope more people learn about this fascinating, intelligent, wealthy woman who played a pivotal role in rebuilding Chicago after the city was destroyed by fire. Not one to remain an idle society lady she helped the poor and indigent and single handedly created Sarasota, FL. The reason I listen to this podcast is because I learn about people, places and events that are often not well known.
-
ClaireNYCAllI Love this podcast ! Carl you are so charming and knowledgeable

me too, times 100DelightfulDelightful may seem like too limp a title to accompany a five-star review, but in this case consider it robust and apt. Carl Raymond is the perfect host: knowledgeable about and enthralled by his subject, courteous to his guests and able to give them focused appreciation, and wide-ranging in the topics he selects. If I liked tea, I would always have a cup at my side while listening. Make mine herbal, Carl, and please keep up your delightful work.
-
supermodelcitizenAmazingThis podcast is incredible. I’m doing research for a book I’m writing and was looking for a podcast on the gilded age/ progressive era to give me some insights into the nuances of these periods. I’ve found quite a few but this one is by far my favorite. This podcast is fun, informative and so well done. Love it!

Bob's FanaticLove this showI am and always have been obsessed with this time period because of the extravagance and the excess. I am intrigued with the history of it, and so glad to hear these amazing stories. One of my favorite historical podcasts.
-
Terry82252Wonderful, addicting seriesIf you love the TV show “The Guilded Age”, Edith Wharton, stories of robber barons and their world, and anything related to this fascinating bygone era, you will ADORE The Guilded Gentlemen. Carl Raymond is an outstanding writer and podcaster who brings a “gently produced” show every two weeks. My wife and I are ADDICTS!
-
TheCompDoctorSlave owners were “planters”????Revisionist history podcast that refers to the “devastation” former slave owners experienced without so much as acknowledging the horrors of slavery is disgusting. Happens on multiple episodes. No thanks. Next.
-
Michelle PackGreat content!I really enjoy learning about all the real people behind the HBO show. Plus all the extras!
