jagriner4Here We Go Again(?)As we close the book on another April for the Cubs - a very impressive April - I was inspired to look for some Cubs Podcasts. I came upon The Run by Audacy and MLB. OMG! It’s amazing. As a diehard Cubs fan I have relived 2016 many ties over the last 9 years. I’ve replayed my own experience: Watching Game 3 from inside the Cubby Bear; and Game 7 from my hotel room in Hartford CT. I’ve also read the books. But this podcast, hosted by the familiar voices of Matt Spiegel and Roy Wood Jr., provided their own perspective and their joy in the Cubs win. They also shared with us their conversations with a number of those who were there: Theo, Joe, Tom Verducci and Grandpa Rossy. I also enjoyed hearing from the ladies: Katie and Sarah. Cubs Fandom is gender neutral. Some of the most rabid fans I know are women. As a lifelong fan, having earned my “Loveable Loser” cred, I know a lot about the Cubs and the 2016 season. Even still, I learned new things listening to this podcast. More importantly I laughed, I cried (again), I smiled, I cheered, I cried and cried AND SANG. Thanks to Audacy and MLB. Thanks to Matt and Roy, and to all who supported, cheered on and celebrated the 2016 Cubs and us (the fans): “LOSERS NO MORE”

Saraw00Great podcast!Loved to relive the 2016 World Series run. I recently binged the podcast on a road trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Besides the good memories, it provided lots of laughs.

Sam in North CarolinaMontero?Good production but discussing G1 of the NLCS and not mentioning the biggest home run in Cubs’ history is inexcusable.

Destroyer76Go CubbiesA must for any Cubs fan. Any chance to relive 2016 is ok with me. Great guests even though they aren’t real time interviews, just a bunch of the guests’ recorded responses to questions submitted by the host. Unfortunate way to do it since there is zero interaction between the guest and hosts. Oh, and I wish everyone would stop saying Kris Bryant was smiling on the last play. He himself said it’s just a weird face he tends to make all the time. Why would he even be smiling? He’s not 12.

Incognito202This is Who I partied with…..It started off pretty good, but the series has devolved into guests and hosts bragging about who they partied with and what nice seats they had at the games.

notasocialjusticewarriorWay too political for a sports podcastWhen they actually talk about the 2016 cubs, its a great podcast. But like everything else in life, they cant help but talk politics. If i wanted to hear about politics, i would have picked one of the 1000s of political podcasts out there. Stick to baseball!!

Swagnasty94Fun interviewsThe interviews have been enjoyable and anything on the 2016 Cubs will always bring a smile to my face. I’ve only listened to the first three episodes so far so perhaps it’s been corrected already, but Merkle was on the Giants in 1908 and “Merkle’s Boner” actually helped the Cubs get to the world series that year. I feel like it’s been explained here as some past Cubs mistake. We only have 3 championships, we’ve gotta at least keep the stories of those 3 straight.

Albuquerque MikeAre podcasts for people who don’t have friends with common interests? This is my first foray into the time-sink of podcasts. I subscribed to relive the glory of the Cubs’ run in the fall of 2016 to their first World Series title in 108 years. I hoped to hear a summary of the strategic maneuvers, the individual plays, and the historic performances that led to victory on November 2, 2016. Instead, what I got was two random guys reminiscing about their feelings before and during the playoffs. Neither host is especially engaging or funny and their interviews are neither challenging (letting Joe Maddon off the hook for his overuse of Aroldis Chapman, e.g.) nor amusing. Very little insight comes from these puff-piece chats, which are often of very poor audio quality. Where are the radio replays of critical moments? Where is the building excitement and tension we Cubs fans experienced five years ago? The format has no meaningful structure and generates no momentum whatsoever. Honestly, I was left wondering why anyone would want to listen to the aimless recollections of some dudes instead of reliving one of the great sports moments of the last century with family and friends. Sorry, but I find it impossible to care about the response of the 4-year-old son of someone I’ve never met to a baseball game. Is this really what podcasts are, being subject to someone else’s opinions and reminiscences about stuff in place of normal relationships and conversations? Yawn.

Wesley3KSo Glad I Checked This OutWhen I heard the first ad for this podcast, I worried about celebrity fan interviews and whether it would be hosted by outsiders, but knowing that Matt Spiegel and Roy Wood, Jr. are obviously true fans and that the guests weren’t going to be random but diehard Cubs fans made me want to try it out, and I cannot wait for the next episode.

no-nickname-since-it-is-takenPretty goodI’m enjoying it. Seems like they got some facts wrong about Bartman. 1) He did accept a World Series ring. - according to numerous articles. 2) He still lives in the city. 3) He still works for the same place. - according to an espn article written before the championship run. Hopefully this is corrected on the next episode.

Jayt136703Love this. This is Matt Spiegel’s wheelhouse. Baseball with all the emotions and no one to derail his baseball conversation. Add in Roy Wood Jr. and it is absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to hear every single episode.
