    Unredeemably shallow
You know it's one thing when one person is insufferably unself-aware, but it is so much worse when it's an entire family. The mom calling her middle class aspirations of sending her kids to private school and an annual vacay "embarrassing", the daughter not knowing what mom meant by "we were all form no content" (heads up Liz: she means you all are shallow!) and that was the only moment that came close to the shame these folks ought to have had for thinking anyone ought to care enough to listen to an entire podcast about them.

    Not good
The first episode is intriguing. It never ties back in to the story. I agree with the poor reviews.

    Some gaps
There seems to be a lot of information left out during the “era” of her father marrying Mary. I was at the wedding for I used to work for Mary as her personal assistant for 4 years. I knew Bob very well through Mary. She is a fantastic person. She was portrayed very poorly. The side of their relationship was very different than the way Liz portrayed it.

    Kept waiting
I was waiting for something to happen and maybe it does but I couldn’t make it past the 4th episode. Like what? My own family is a 100 times more interesting and I found myself just not invested in the characters whatsoever.

    Questionable Ethics
The families ethics are appalling, but all we heard was people don’t want us to succeed so we did what we needed to do. Unfortunately there was real collateral damage and those people are still very much alive, many still working when they lost their savings when Reliance went under.

    Was there a point?
The story never went anywhere, you just listen to rich people talk about being rich. No climax, nothing.

    Skip this one
I’m not sure what the point of this podcast was. Similar to other reviewers I found this tough to listen to. The family is vapid and extremely self important. There is no one really likeable and there was no real purpose other than a wealthy family reliving their glory days. I don’t recommend this podcast.

    Huh?
The podcast was well put together and an easy listen, just thought it would go in a different direction.

    Horrible
It made me nauseous in the first 8 minutes.

    Boring narcissism
I came to write about how gross this show is but yeah everyone else already has. Lol I wish I would have read the reviews before listening and saved myself the time.

    Don't waste your time
A podcast adding to the total idolatry of the rich elite in this country. Just gross. I was waiting for the critique but it did not come. Wish I hadn't wasted my time listening to a totally out of touch rich white woman with zero self awareness. Just ewwwwww!

    Can’t relate
I just don’t relate to Liz and her worldview at all. I’m an empathic person, but I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes. 🥴

    I can’t
I appreciate success in every form but can’t take the obscene pretension. Had to stop listening after the first episode. The tone is contradictory to the words.
  • missquotable
    Yeah, no.
I wanted to love this. I would have been happy with even just liking it. But the level of self-aggrandizement throughout is...well, nauseating. I love a good social commentary, and I'm not judging anyone for their wealth or what they do with it. I'm judging them for being so dang unaware and self-important. Yeesh. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Enjoyed it so much that I shared it a second listen with my wife rather than watching TV. Interested in similar recommendations

    We get it
E1 - we get it , they were rich , don’t need to drone on about how special they were for 15 minutes. It’s obnoxious and annoying.

    Oh No
Dear god, will someone please take mics away from out of touch white people. I’m sorry to suggest such a drastic measure, but if you go back and check the numbers, truly nothing good has ever come from it. I could have gone the rest of my life not knowing anything about any of the people involved in making this, but now I will forever have to think about how humiliated they must feel to make themselves look very very stupid to many many people

    Misleading
The first episode of this series was intriguing. I was interested in this family’s story. I stopped listening after episode four. Everything after the first episode was the family going on and on about how rich they were. I was expecting to hear about their extravagant lifestyle but I also expected to hear about what happened that led them to losing it. How society might’ve treated them differently, how losing money and status affected relationships within the family…The story got boring listening to them go on and on about what life used to be like for them.
  • podcastconfusion
    Insufferable
I listened to this whole stupid podcast, hoping that it would eventually graduate from “ohmyGodwewereSORICH” to examining how the family mismanaged their wealth, but that never really happened. Kudos to the series for hooking me into the first episode, but after that? Hours upon hours of an absolutely obnoxious, greedy, whiny would-be heiress making absolutely sure that us peons know how rich she WAS? No thanks. The Steinberg brothers should have gone to prison for their “greenmailing” antics. This family is no better than the Perdues. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

    Fascinating
Thanks to everyone featured for being so open and honest! Such an amazing story and I loved the honesty with which it was told. Please please please make one more about reactions on hearing the podcast from the family! I’m dying to know what Bobby thought after listening.

    New money
It was exhausting to listen to Liz talk about how they were so rich over and over and over again. Meanwhile, it was all her Uncle’s hard work that gave them their wealth. How embarrassing to brag about wealth given to your family and then to spend at such a high rate that you lose it all. She’s soooooo smart (according to her) and yet lacks any insight into how ridiculous it sounds to brag about having money her family didn’t earn.

    Where's the "Fall"
I absolutely love Ariel Levy but this story had enormous holes in it. It begins with Liz living in the Hamptons - so where is the "fall" promised in the show's description. Did they all just go from uber wealthy to just wealthy? So many questions - Bobby's death and violence (Liz really thought she would be murdered??)kids from second family (didn't they live in PA, did they move to NYC??) do they really consider vacationing in a house with one less bedroom "just enough"? I can't tell if the family is so out of touch or the producers of the podcast.

    Rich people make sad.
This whole podcast is wealthy navel gazing. Very “look rich people are just like us”. Guess what gravity exist on planet earth even for Liz.

    Bingeable my behind
Clever wording on the iTunes description. Bingeable, sure if you pony up five bucks a month. Get bent.

    Not Going to PAY
I listened to the first episode and I really enjoyed it but the rest of the episodes you cant listen to unless you PAY FOR THEM!!!!! Any podcast that forces you to pay is a podcast that I can do without and sooner or later them people that put these podcasts out will either go somewhere else where their listeners are not forced to pay to hear the rest of the series. Oh well, there are plenty of other TC podcasts out there that are free and this is the ONLY one that I have come across where you need to pay to hear the rest of the episodes. Not a good business model IMO.

    Surprisingly Interesting
True insight into the ups and downs of how the 1 percent live is rare and appreciated. The underdog aspect in the description of family’s modest beginnings and the struggles they faced as Jewish people in a very waspish arena added relatability. At the height of their success, they lived a life that is unimaginable to most people. The telling of how one of their associates had a passenger booted off a flight so that one of the sisters could have their seat was kind of sickening, but it does add to the overall honesty of the podcast. This story demonstrates that even the seemingly most fortunate of people can lose it all in the blink of an eye. This was an entertaining and bingeable podcast.

Couldn’t stop listening, such a great slice of life story of a truly interesting and dysfunctional family.

Ok. They are rich. And? 🥱🥱🥱🥱
Ok. They are rich. Took me three episodes to get bored. Get to the story if there is one. First ,The Binge Production, I’ve panned.

    Fascinating
Great story, Liz Lange needs a podcast.
  • KelseyDutch
    Ehh
I’m three episodes in and it’s just Liz Lange obnoxiously talking about how rich she was…. I haven’t heard anything about the family saga. too bad because it could have been an interesting story.
  • Happy Podess
Fascinating, but sometimes hard to follow
I absolutely loved the story of the family, told from different family members points of view. However, I couldn’t always distinguish voices as they are almost never introduced before they speak- it’s especially hard to tell which of the sisters is speaking at any given time. That led to confusion while trying to focus on the details they’re communicating. Production should’ve been better about making sure the listener knows who they’re listening to at all times. Otherwise, it was a fascinating story and I really enjoyed it.

Creeped out by the closing credits
The soft baby voice send shivers down my spine. Once I hear the closing music I know to switch to the next ep to spare myself. Besides that, engaging story with high production value.

A wild ride with Liz Lang’s crazy rich family
Told with forthrightness, humor and humility this story was riveting, entertaining but also reflective. A richly woven front row recounting of the rise and fall of an American family in the greed is good era. I enjoyed the tight storytelling, the under 30 minute episodes and the access to family members- any good documentary content is all about access and this podcast has it. The humanity of the people involved comes through, and the multiple perspectives that arise put a fine point on the subjectiveness of memory. Definitely a binge worthy show!

    Only 1 free episode?
Disappointing that this is a weekly podcast that only has the 1st episode available for free, which dropped Sept 9 and it’s now November. I thought I could listen to new episodes for free each week but apparently not.

    Fun
It totally binged on this one. Very interesting podcast. Good interviews.

    Irritating

    Questions answered
Interesting podcast and easy to binge! I was hooked! 1. But what about the other family the dad had? 2. What was the fallout w the business going under? Was it like Enron and the employees were very upset? 3. What were the lessons and takeaways from each family member now? 4. How is Liz’s cancer treatment going and can you clarify Jim’s mental breakdown and/or temper which led to Liz selling her company? Thank you and I hope some of these questions are answered in a follow-up episode or two. Three stars because of the questions-will change to five in anticipation of future updates. Thank you!
