Owner/developerMust listenThis podcast is a must-listen for anyone concerned about why the U.S. doesn’t have enough housing, market or affordable, and how different housing policies make that worse or sometimes better. Exposes practitioners to research that they probably didn’t even know existed.

EdisonbergerAccessible and accurateThis is a fantastic podcast for understanding the state of the research on housing economics and affordability. I appreciate that they interview the authors of the papers in a way that makes the content accessible to non-economists while preserving accuracy and nuance.

russian interferenceToo much policy, not enough economicsLove the topic, but unfortunately these episodes too often devolve to wishcasting. In the current series on pathways to homelessness episode 1 clearly states that the base issue in areas of high homeless is a lack of available units in which to live and the costs that scarcity drives. So why no follow up episodes on high density building, alternatives to traditional housing (beyond apartments/condos/sfh), breaking down govt regulation and bureaucracy to speed development, post pandemic commercial to residential transition, etc?

TobyhhgvghGreat, informative podcastReally appreciate this as a way to get deeply informed on housing issues while on the go. The Pathways Home series is particularly great: very relevant, important and accessible. Will share with friends.

MJulQFinally! Affordable Housing Made Easy to Understand!I redact this review below. I was pressured to write this at the time. Shane has tried to ruin my reputation multiple times publicly. Verbal abuse and recording private conversations and threatening to disseminate without consent is not okay. —————————- This isn’t just a good podcast, it’s truly one of its kind and one that we need! For starters, I know nothing about the world of affordable housing. I’ve been curious about following the current events / efforts, but didn’t know where to start. After listening to the first episode however I was hooked! Why? Rarely do we hear from the leaders in this field (which are the hosts and their guests) on the work they’re doing to make affordable housing a reality for all. Not only this, but they do an excellent job to break down housing policies and the research driving them in an entertaining and informative way for all to understand. I hope they continue to make more episodes because this is THE podcast that will help us carry on this important conversation into the future. I’m so glad I subscribed to this podcast, what’s stopping you from doing so too?

lb_jayEnormously helpful and informativeI came for the IZ discussion with Emily Hamilton and stayed for pretty much ever other episode. I’m a housing advocate in a pricy Boston suburb and I have learned sooo much going through all of the back episodes.

cje93Solidly produced, really interesting, and super importantThese types of podcasts are super important - ones that make a technical topic like housing approachable and accessible, not overly academic. They have great varied topics and i wish there were similar podcasts on other policy topics.

V HoyAmazing research, less acronyms please! Finally a podcast about housing that gets into the weeds! Really can’t say how much I appreciate the nuance. By one critique: to be truly accessible please avoid acronyms. I can appreciate how hard it is to catch since you use them all the time in your daily life as planner/academics but it gets really confusing to follow for those of us not in that world. Thank you so much for your work!!

L_A_RidingsWell researched and incredibly necessary. If you’re interested in housing policy, live in a Major metropolitan area in the US, or just love humans trying to create better cities for themselves, this is it. And even as a Trojan, I have to admit - UCLA is doing it right. Listen to this. It’s worth your time. If you live in Los Angeles, this is MANDATORY.

jlhawnBetter with every episode. This podcast is an excellent resource for people like me who are interested in learning more about housing and land use in California and elsewhere. It’s got excellent interviews with authors of published studies in urban planning and economics discussed in a way that is very accessible to non-expert casual listeners.
