The Ballad Of Anne & Mary

72
Drama #225

It's 1721, and London is abuzz with news of notorious pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read, currently languishing in Newgate Prison. It’s the perfect time for debt-ridden journalist Nathaniel Mist to exploit the public appetite and ghost-write a sensational (and hopefully best-selling) history of pirates. But as the balladeers and gossips on the streets of London build myths around the blood-thirsty, perverse lady pirates, Mist is forced to reckon with the real Bonny & Read... Featuring musical sensation Christina Bianco, actress and comedian Sooz Kempner, Hamilton star Karl Queensborough, drag legend Le Gateau Chocolat, and more.BBC Audio Drama Awards 'Best Podcast' and British Podcast Awards 'Best Fiction' Nominee 2022.

Lots of laughing out loud during this podcast as well as almost getting choked up a few times. Highly recommend this pod.

    Absolutely loved it!
I learned of these two pirates about a week before another podcast plugged this one, and I am so glad they did. The writers and cast hit this one out of the park, and yes I did go buy the album directly. Will definitely be listening to their other productions. 👍🏻👍🏻

    Great story
I’m not a fan of musicals, so I keep skipping through the singing parts. Otherwise, good story and acting. I enjoy all of long cat media podcasts.

    Love it!
I loved everything about this musical, and plan to listen many more times. You can find episode 1 in another of my favorite podcasts: The Amelia Project (season 6, I think).

    Missing episode 1
So, I only noticed this recently, but episode 1 has disappeared. When I restart the musical it goes right to episode 2. Either than that, the musical is amazing and I recommend it to all those who love musicals.

    Podcasting at its best
I came to this podcast after it was plugged in The Amelia Project. The production quality is amazing… I’ve never heard a podcast with so much GREAT original music. I’d recommend it to fans of Hamilton, Outlander, the Nightmare Before Christmas (random assortment but this show reminded me of all of them, a high compliment!). I binged it and quickly sought out other Long Cat Media projects. I hope more people find this pod and that LCM keeps producing such stellar work!!

    Fantastic
This is an amazing musical podcast. The storyline is fantastic and the music evokes emotion. I will be trolling the available podcast libraries for other Long Cat Media productions. I didn’t want it to end and hoped the story would continue! It definitely left me wanting more.

    Couldn’t believe I found this
Truly everything me as a teen girl dreamed of but didn’t know it. Pirates and ladies and singing oh my!

    insanely good sound design
They say this was recorded remotely but I don't believe them; the audio quality is incredible, and the sound design and soundscape are just bonkers. 4/5 because I think some of the songwriting is a bit clunky. But really, really impressive to listen to overall.

    Blown away
I'm always blown away by the talent of the crew at Long Cat Media. The Ballad of Anne & Mary is impeccably written, scored, and performed. If you love musicals, egalitarian pirates, and women seeking their freedom on the high seas, you'll be sure to love this.

Incredible scripted podcast - hits every mark!
I am a voracious consumer of podcasts, but I always have a hard time finding scripted fiction podcasts that hold my interest. There’s always something that either takes me out of the story or just fails to keep me invested through the first episode. Not so with The Ballad of Anne and Mary! Everything is top notch. The acting and singing are wonderful. The music is beautiful and sophisticated. The story (so far) is engaging and well-written. And the production quality is extraordinary. One episode in, I’m absolutely hooked and can’t wait to hear more.
