    Not the same.
Absolutely LOVED The Deeper, but have a since unsubscribed since Zoes venture into Arrise.

    No depth
The host drags words out in a way that just sounds mind numbing. The questions and intentions towards guests is so out of whack. There is no authenticity, just a host who likes the sound of her own voice and throwing in a random American accent into some of her words.

    Self serving and irritating
This is so cringey - Zoe has the most irritating fake voice and oozes inauthenticity. Nothing new or unique here - it is an unsubscribe for me.

    The Shallow
Asking how often kids die in ICU ?? What’s the worst thing they’ve seen?? No insight just using the guests for shock value. Hearing different perspectives and having an emotional reaction is valuable but the nature of this podcast is just voyeuristic.

    Disappointed Maccas Salad
I’m a longtime listener and I’m now unsubscribing. I loved Zoe’s mind and her interest in shedding light on dark and often “societally shunned” topics, and that was exactly what I signed up for. This new direction of “eat pray love journal” and manifestations sounds amazing for people who are into that. But it is certainly not what I’m after in my own leisure listening. I became invested in her podcast for pretty much the opposite angle of what she’s going for now. For me, it feels like I’ve gone to Maccas and ordered a salad. Definitely not the reason I subscribed to this podcast.

    Unsubscribed
I have unsubscribed, as the podcast has gone in a completely different direction to what it used to be

    No longer deep
I have unsubscribed from the deeper as it’s no longer what I signed up for. I wish Zoe all the best for her new direction but it’s not one I wish to go on and in this cost of living crisis, I can’t justify this subscription now that it’s not what it used to be.

    Disappointed
I was an avid OG subscriber of The Deeper but sadly the show has gone dramatically downhill over the past few months and most of the “new releases” are from the archives so are not new at all. Zoe has to work hard to not interrupt people and talk about herself - the episodes where she can do that are absolutely brilliant and she interviews some fascinating people but unfortunately in more recent times the episodes have been a hard listen due to Zoe struggling to do her research, stay on topic and not interrupt. I’ll be leaving The Deeper since it’s shift to Ariise.

    No longer Deep
Long time listener here. Used to love the Deep but it really has changed but not for the better sadly. First few seasons were so raw and honest and interesting, now lots of paid content and boring topics 😢

Podcast seems to have changed direction
I’ve been a huge fan of The Deep since day 1, and would look forward to Tuesday’s for the latest episode and tell everyone about this podcast. However I understand Zoe is changing direction with The Deep which has been felt by listeners for a while. It seems more about self exploration, manifestation and the “woo woo” which is not an issue, but also not why I became a subscriber in the first place. After weeks of archived eps I’m glad Zoe has addressed taking the podcast in a new direction. I have unsubscribed for now, would resubscribe in a heartbeat if Zoe ever decides to go back to how The Deep was in its earlier seasons.

    Used to love it
What’s going on? I’m paying for a service that isn’t delivering. Releasing from the archives episodes repeatedly isn't what people signed up for. If the host has lost her passion that’s totally fine but stop the subscriptions if that’s the case

    Abit disappointed with the subscription
I absolutely love your podcast and have been listening to you for years! I recommend you to my friends but I’m getting a little confused and disappointed. I understand things come up, you have a family ect but the constant favs from the archive is getting annoying. I’m sure all the subscribers have already heard these before.
  • Ali239
    Current subscriber here…
Zoe, I have loved your podcast for as long as you’ve existed. Your guests are remarkable in so many ways and you treat them with compassion, non-judgment and provide a safe space. I am however a bit annoyed that you’ve mentioned on a few podcasts (not just your own) that The Deep is an Apple case study for how to monetise your business via subscriptions. I’m a current subscriber because I do love your content, however stating that episodes are released weekly but then for weeks in a row release ‘from the archives’ content is pretty disappointing. Avid listeners have heard these already. I’m not sure, but perhaps be a bit more up front of other life commitments (without going into too much detail) mean you cannot release a new episode every week. If there are multiple weeks in a row of releasing old interviews I’m not sure what we’re paying (the albeit small amount) for? Vary the subscription fee for slower months? I’m not sure? Perhaps I’m wrong? I’m all for manifesting money or other things but I think if you’re not delivering what people are paying for on this platform, then things might move the other way and you’ll lose subscribers? Perhaps your career is going in a different direction and the podcast is fading out which is a-ok, but as a long time subscriber I thought I’d offer some honest feedback. Thank you for all the work you have done to date - I can’t imagine how incredibly taxing it is for you.

    Awesome
Have loved your podcast for years now, thanks Zoe. An avid Deeper listener than really enjoys a new episode drop ~ never quite knowing what I’m going to learn about upon that commute to work! Cheers, Shen

    Frustrating!!!
I have been a long time listener and have tried to ignore your total ignorance and self absorbed attitude to people’s real life, challenging stories but the King Cross one has done it for me. You did not let this man finish a sentence without you jumping in and speaking over the top of him and often changing the subject and making it about yourself. He didn’t even get to finish the timeline of his life because you kept interrupting him. And what was with your hyper focus on if he sold himself for heroin? Does it matter???? Your naivety is appalling. I don’t believe you are educated enough to interview people with significant trauma backgrounds. Please leave it for the professionals, or at least people with common sense and empathy before you do more damage.
  • Bextar99
    So annoying!!!
Host’s slow, drawn out speech and over enunciation of every word is just grating. Always turning topic of discussion back to herself. Just cannot get through a full episode.
  • Neens978
Love the stories and the host empathy
Love listening to different topics that impacts people everyday. The host gives space to people which is amazing, definitely 5 stars 💖💖💖💖💖

    Happiest subscriber ever
As a Deeper subscriber I LOVE opening my podcast app and seeing a new episode with Zoe and The Deep pop up. Zoe is an incredible interviewer and podcast host, she is thoughtful, real and raw and it feels like she really gets the absolute best out of her guests. I am obsessed with this podcast and tell everyone and anyone I cross paths with all about it!

Everyone talking over each other. The word “like” is too repetitive.

    You are amazing
This is actually my second time leaving a review as I was looking for the comment section for each episode but somehow I’ve stumbled across reviews and I am absolutely baffled at the fact that there is negative comments. I don’t think anyone else could ever deliver these hard conversations in such an empathetic way. I love that you are relatable. I love the way you deliver every single thing about The Deep. I personally am shocked that there’s negative comments at all, I love the podcast I love all of the content please never stop

    I’m done
When this podcast first started I was obsessed. Then when Zoe got pregnant she changed the podcast into a pregnancy one and well, that was the beginning of the end.. once Zoe had all the pregnancy talk out of her system and finally went back to the range of topics we love I came back but I’ve noticed absolutely everything is about her. No matter who the guest is or what the topic is on Zoe speaks over the guest and makes the conversation about herself. There’s been times when my mouth has dropped open in shock, the total lack of compassion & empathy is terrible. Zoe the guests are fascinating, why not welcome them & ask them to tell their story? No questions, no interruptions, just let them speak. I really hope you take all of these reviews on board. The subjects are fascinating, we all know you’ve had every single possible traumatic event happen to you so please, it’s time to let others share their stories & let the guests speak!

    Great Podcast .
Gosh some people are so rude ! Personally I absolutely love your show , you are gentle , kind and very respectful towards your guests. You ask lots of interesting questions, not afraid to go below the belt lol . Keep up the wonderful job your doing . I’ve subscribed for the year . Congratulations on a damn good podcast Zoe

    Don’t Bother
Don’t know why I have bothered paying for the subscription when the episodes NEVER or RARELY play on Apple Podcasts
  • tasta2
Great podcast. Please change the intro message
Great podcast and great topics but the intro message is sooo slow and annoying. The first episode I listened to was the Port Arthur episode which was fascinating but the host asked questions that sounded like she hadn’t researched the event before hand. It could have been the host trying to get the guest to open up but it came across a bit disrespectful.

    BEST
I look forward to listening every single week,Zoe’s ability to ask questions, understand and hold space for these incredible people is nothing short of amazing! Truely an incredible podcast 😀

Not great for a non subscriber
Used to love the deep but without being a subscriber I can’t listen to any new eps only archive favs.

    INTERRUPTIONS!!!
Zoe, please start taking feedback on board and stop interrupting your guests! You have wonderful guests who have interesting stories to tell and you make it so hard to continue listening. Not everything needs to relate back to you. I loved the low tox ep but you made it unbearable to finish. You did not know better than Alexx. We want to hear what she has to say, not you. Do better - for your listeners but also for your guests especially.
  • sobergal1
    Cringe factor
I had to stop listening, Zoe is off in Zoe land and lacks common sense. Her sultry voice feels exaggerated and uncomfortable.
  • Curlyjean1992
Enjoy the content, though host demonstrates lack of attentive listening
I do enjoy the topics explored on The Deep. However, it’s really evident that Zoe is not truly listening to the guests, as she often interrupts, and it seems like there’s an urgency for her to say her piece. It’s quite unsettling when guests responses are trampled by Zoe interrupting. Hence why I have decided to write a review. To bring attention to this, and hope that Zoe takes it on board.
  • Victoria Sommerville
    Insincere
I have to agree with everyone who notes the interruptions. I do feel they are consistent and Zoe doesn’t seem to value the guest. She needs to listen more and talk (about herself) less. It’s frustrating and unprofessional.
  • Lillypikelets
I’m the queen of postcasts & this one is truely brilliant!!
Amazing people share their unbelievable stories with vulnerability and honesty!!! This podcast is in my top 3!!! Zoe’s voice is heartwarming and sympathetic!! Keep up the good work u ace it every time!! ♥️💗

Was a big fan in the beginning
Really enjoyed this podcast in the beginning now most episodes are for subscribers only it’s all about the money so have unsubscribed and will listen to other great podcasts instead!

Bombs the line between sharing someone’s story and profiting from their trauma.
I really enjoyed this show in the beginning but as it’s gone on, I can’t listen anymore and have needed to unsubscribe. Zoe’s interview style feels careless and reckless and has left me consistently feeling complicit in listening to what I would describe as trauma porn.. I feel as though Zoe has a duty of care to the guests she interviews given the heavy topics discussed that she too often neglects. I’m often frustrated by her lack of interviewing skills, her over the top reactions, interruptions and leading questions. I feel for the vulnerable people on this show and feel Zoe would benefit from some more trauma-informed training and education so as not to cause further harm to her guests.
  • K88888888888
    More like The Interruptions
So much potential. I often find I try to go back to this podcasts because the topics and guest’s stories ARE genuinely so interesting! Hearing Zoe’s forced sultry voice asking if I have subscribed instantly reminds me why I get so annoyed. Alas I push on. BUT I barely finish the episodes due to how frustrating it is to listen to Zoe constantly interrupt the guests and/or link back their stories to relate to HERSELF? After reading other reviews I am clearly not alone in this. The most recent episode was the final straw - this poor lady is sharing the story of her child dying after being hit by a car, and Zoe interrupts to ask ‘did you feel like you had to get pregnant again asap’ basically asking did you want to replace your kid? Like….. The cringe I felt. My mouth literally dropped. Like girrrrrrrl really? Her interview style is so self centred and she seems to just want shock value and sounds like she is very inexperienced to be discussing such deep trauma. Such a shame as the actual topics and guests are brilliant.
  • KT118!
    Ok
The topics are interesting but Zoe comes across as a little insincere.

    Yawn 🥱
    Yawn. Gotten boooooring

Not a fan of the host
She interrupts constantly, seems extremely self centered and her interview style is rubbish.
  • ncholxz
    Perpetuating trauma
I think it’s incredibly inappropriate to interview people who have been through such horrific trauma when you clearly have no education or skills in trauma. Do you realise that you are making their trauma worse? Your focus seems to only be on sensationalising and profiting from others.
  • Jewells W
    One of the best podcasts!!!
Such a wonderful wide range of topics and Zoe’s voice is so easy to listen to. I listened to every episode since the very beginning and can’t wait for more.
  • laurenodea
    Incredible
The work Zoe does is a gift of god. Creating a space for people to share their most vulnerable stories, traumas and pain is incredible. Pushing through her own pain and turning it into a positive thing for other people. Thank you Zoe.
  • MissJessES.
    Absolute gem of a podcast!
Unsure why there are so many negative reviews. I look forward to the new episodes dropping each week. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Zoe! ☺️

Loved it at the beginning but not anymore
I absolutely loved this podcast when it started. So many interesting stories but I feel this year I only ever see old stories re-shared or subscribers only. The ones that are free I never finish because the conversations bore me. I’m really sorry because you stated off so well, I even voted for you for the podcast of the year or whatever it was called a few months ago.

    Obsessed
I listen to this almost every night before bed and I love it! Zoe has a great voice, she asks all the questions I would ask too, she is empathetic and understanding and she interviews some really interesting people! Her voice is really relaxing for bedtime. I don’t know why there are any bad reviews.
  • Skrinkles.
Started okay, unsure of where you’re going
Edit: the woman with two vaginas; Your exaggerated reactions are really disconcerting. A little more professionalism in your interviews would be appropriate. As someone with disabilities myself, it feels rude that you’re gasping and continually comparing the experience of your guest to you and your child… it’s othering and offensive. Unfortunately I can’t get on board with any of this manifesting stuff. It’s giving “The Secret” vibes and I’m not about relying on my white privilege to get places in life. I started out loving this pod because there were interesting people telling interesting stories. Unfortunately, as time has passed, you’ve started to put too much of your own bias in there… bias that is impacting your ability to interview. As someone else has said on here, it would be advantageous for you to get some training on being trauma-informed. For me, it took a turn when you were talking to the human trafficking guest, and you put too much of your own bias in there, and it bordered on moral panic rhetoric. A bit too much opinion when unnecessary. I much prefer when the host can step back and let the guest tell their story and inform without interjection. Podcasts like Something Was Wrong or This is Actually Happening are a good example of the host really giving a platform for the guest. Just some thoughts. I’be been a listener from the start and I have been a paid subscriber… but I’ve actually unsubscribed since I don’t seem to be engaged or interested in season 2.

    Poor interviewing skills
I was recommended this podcast by a friend but I cant stand the hosts style. She doesn’t lead the guests to tell their story in a natural way… it’s like “here are my questions, answer them”….
  • sophleeb
    Subscriber?
Love the podcast but feel a bit disappointed as a subscriber when there are so many re runs of episodes being shared. Thinking of unsubscribing if I’m not paying for new episodes. It’s a shame but feel like it’s not worth the money at this point. Otherwise, I love the podcast.
  • BTMag
    Lack of interviewing skills
I’ve been listening to the Deep since the beginning, starting years ago. Initially, I was frustrated with Zoe’s lack of proper interviewing skills and appropriate techniques but thought it would get better over time. Alas, it has not. Ask 1 question Zoe, not 10 at the one time. Too often Zoe can relate the subject back to herself (again, inadequate skills). I still love this podcast but can get very frustrated on behalf of the people who are sharing their stories.
  • evecorr
    Patronising
I have just listened to Part 2 of the Family Rapist. Zoe, as a host was completely disrespectful and disappointing when interviewing the victim/survivor. She used language that was patronising and almost glamorising child sexual assault. The questions were intrusive, uncomfortable and unnecessary. As a victim/survivor myself my own PTSD has been triggered, not by the content but by the host and her inability to conduct an appropriate conversation and interview.
