This podcast is my Jewish home. I’m constantly throwing around references to it, both to the hosts and guests wisdom and perspectives. I finish each episode feeling inspired, curious, and hopeful, something I don’t take for granted, with new insight into our Jewish community- maybe a given considering the wide range of topics and guest- but also into myself. One criticism is a wish for more representation and acknowledgement of the perspectives and experiences of the other 50 percent.

I thoroughly enjoy the wide range of topics.

These are some of the most important conversations in the Jewish world, and I highly recommend anyone to listen to these. The interviewer, however, does not seem to trust his audience or the people he interviews. When he asks a question, he doesn’t just ask it. He asked it and then proceeds to ask the same question in 16 different ways. If he would only just trust the people he brings on the show that they understand and they can give adequate responses an already amazing podcast would be event better.

Amazing interview with Joshua and Shaindy. Really made me think long and hard about who we want to be.

Wow. I am an avid listener and learner of 1840 podcast and I really enjoyed this latest episode, and the new format of 18 questions with 40 different individuals. This allows the listener to gain key insights and perspective from different views and I cannot wait for more. I found the interviewer kept a very experienced and flow-like balance with the questions asked and also knowing when to ask Mr. Morris to elaborate, or to just let him talk on his own. Looking forward to more!

The new ideas, diverse perspectives and truly extraordinary humility and compassion of the host have turned this podcast into one of my must-listens this year. The series on denominations and the one on Zionism taught me so much and are also models of how I hope to be and teach my own students in the world. They are so rich and dense I find myself reviewing the transcripts afterward!

I started listening to the podcast several years ago but I stopped because I found David the host to be a bit too shmaltzy and ruchani shmuchani! Post October 7 I found myself coming back to the podcast and very much connecting with David and his guests for much needed chizzuk and achdut. I have cried several times overcome by emotion from the stories told by David’s guests. The spiritual content that used to strike me as mawkish, now very much resonate with me, as our world has changed in the last year.

David Bashevkin is an extremely knowledgeable and devoted insider in the religious Jewish world. The content he puts out is unmatched for its honesty, fearlessness, insight, and compassion and care for his diverse listeners. This podcast is a treasure!

18Fourty is the most real podcast out there. Dovis is personable, real, sensitive and balanced! However he is not afraid to ask the hard questions. Obviously in a respectful way! My only regret is I wish I had know about this podcast for longer!!!

1840 is an excellent podcast- Dbash chooses interesting subjects to interview and he doesn’t fit one mold within Judaism. His intelligence coupled with humor is refreshing.

Every episode gives me a way to reconsider relationships in my life, with others and self and G-d. Unbelievable guests, raw honesty, and faces what others shy away from discussing. So glad this exists.

What a unique and awesome podcast! Rabbi Dovid is an amazing host, asking some really insightful questions and bringing up conversation that is fascinating and informative at the same time. His enthusiasm for his guests and their discussions is infectious. The show also dives in to really unique and wonderful topics. I was recommended the podcast by two different people in the same day which is what prompted me to listen to it and now I’m hooked as well.

Was not familiar with this podcast until tonight. April 2022 podcast was recommended. Blew me away. Rabbi Larry Rothwachs and Tzipora have an amazing story to tell. But I was very impressed with the interviewer, himself, who did an amazing job. I subscribed.

I love this podcast. I am constantly impressed by Bashevkin’s knowledge, intelligence and big-hearted respect for his interlocutors. I learn something whoever I listen and would even go as far as to say I come away a better person.

How can you give legitimacy to people who are off the derech and support and hope for people to do the same. I used to respect David Bashevkin and his work but after hearing some of these podcasts it’s disturbing how he could go ahead and preach about his religion and then show his support who forfeit it.

David Bashevkin is a dynamic host of a technically well-done podcast. The topics are wide-ranging and the guest selection is top-notch as well.
