    Much needed in surf world
Very funny. Easily the best or 2nd best podcast in surf, and one of my overall favorites.

    Insightful and funny
The humor and irreverence of Beach Grit in audio form. Good interviews and the episodes that feature Longtom are particular gems

    Mark Mathews Interview
The best message from a surfer I've ever heard. A great story. Relevant to any and all ... in any time. Good stuff!

One of the most thought provoking and Funny Surf podcasts out there.
This is worth tuning into, just to hear Derek’s intros alone. I’ve listened since the beginning, and always been entertained. Derek does his homework ahead and always has a great follow-up question. Combined with Charlie’s easygoing banter, it helps their guests open up to share things they wouldn’t normally. Consistently great “pod”!

    Good... for a surf podcast
Starved for surf content, but are tired of the self-seriousness that plagues most surf podcasts other than Ain't That Swell, which is also unbearable due its empty, overly shticky, weekday morning radio show vibe, where the "personalities" are so overly caricatured as to be void of them, spouting nonsensical catchphrases? Then listen to Dirty Water, where you can listen to relatively famous, yet obscure surf personalities talk about their boring, uninspiring lives! They're just like us!! Brought to you and hosted by BeachGrit co-founders Derek Rielly, the one Aussie surf podcaster who doesn't sound like he does voiceover work for Outback Steakhouse, and Charlie Smith, an American surf media jihadist who sounds like a post-op transgender woman who swallowed Fozzy Bear's vocal chords, you're sure to have an OKish, eye rolling time!... or to get mad. :p P.S. the episodes with Steve Shearer (aka longtom) are the best. Listen to those, skip the Shane "90-Year Old Man Toddler Face" Beschen two, and make your own decision about the B-Mart one (WARNING: HE IS BORING)...

    Give us more surf
Stories from the front from an award winning author and website renowned linguist, this podcast is sure to help you pass the time whilst mowing the yard, or taking a poop.

It’s like, you know, not bad
Taking on the unenviable task of making surfing and perhaps more significantly, pro surfers sound even somewhat interesting seems like a fools errand but Derek mostly pulls it off. He even got Chloe to say something outside of the usual robot responses you get from most pros.

    👏🏾
Sounds like Jeremy is in a solid headspace in his life right now. Loved hearing the passion and intelligence in his voice about the debacle going on with the ecosystem in reunion. New found respect for him. Some more tid bits into the two yr partying post win would’ve been entertaining to hear more about lol 🤙🏾

    Best tail pads
The market is saturated with new grip companies. What other company is bold enough to market tail pads to mid length riders though? Derek takes all his cues from the electric acid surfboard test with Dane Reynolds and refuses to surf the boards the way they’re meant to be surfed. Trying to rip the top off at every moment. Chas has changed his opinion so much he has to have Devon Howard tell him exactly how to surf now. Great podcast. Five stars. They actually try to get guests to answer hard questions. Plus they get big name guests.

    KA!
Thanks for a slow paced and thoughtful look into K. Andino, you gave him some probing questions, and also open ended response time which suited his style. Felt like I learned something, especially about frustration, emotion and growth; made a KA fan out of me! And DR was just colorful enough to keep it funny but not over the top!!!

The Perfect Combination Of Wit, Charm and Irreverence
As a consumer of all things surf podcasts, I feel this one is top notch. Derek brings the flair and edge of a true Aussie and Charlie brings it home with sly, vodka and coconut water riddled jests. Keep up the good work. Just don’t interview any sharks please.

    Pure Stoke.
Out of all the surf pods out there this is by far the closest thing to the surf culture experience you will find. Except when they are stroking up Elo. Just like riding around talking story with a bro looking for waves. Now send me my pad DR!!!

    Awesome
These two (Chas and Derek) changed the surf journalism landscape from coma-inducing to party all night. Nothing but fun and you don’t need to surf to enjoy their style....

A not so typical take on modern surf culture
Anyone who has surfed for awhile knows that the best stories about surfing are rarely about surfing itself. It’s the culture, the characters, the fruitless trips and the parking lot postering that often provide the most entertainment. Chas Smith and Derek Riley, two long standing members of the surf media, are good at finding the nuance of surf culture. They explore the joy, the frustration and the inherent silliness of the surf world. Both Derek and Chas are humble about their own surfing ability and because of this they bring an everyman perspective to the podcast. The boys ask different kinds of questions, poking and prodding when needed, and never taking anything too seriously. I always learn something and I always laugh. Chas (Charlie) and Derek are not your typical surfers but obviously are deeply in love with it all, from riding a mid-length to watching a wave pool contest. And yes, Derek makes a bunch of penis references and yes, if you could see Chas he would probably be wearing his vintage Ray Ban's indoors, but that's ok. I highly recommend. Dirty Water is a refreshing and much needed take on modern surf culture and a great listen.

    Perfect for SUP Pilots
This is the perfect podcast to listen to on my waterproof bluetooth speaker I've suction cupped onto my Stand Up Paddleboard. I've never gotten fewer dirty looks in the lineup, and the hosts' dulcet tones reverbate beatifully when I'm tucking into a backside barrel.

    Good listening
Keep it coming boys you got some A-listers on the show so far.

    Refreshing to hear Derek’s voice
I’ve heard plenty of Chas via The Grit, but now I’ve shifted over to Dirty Water because I like hearing what Derek has to say. Fun ep with Elo and Pat. Also enjoy hearing Longtom and hope we get him regularly. And the CJ ep exceeded expectations.

    Orgasmic!
After being surf celibate for nearly 7 weeks, this podcast made me prematurely lose my load directly into my needessentials leisurewear.

    There is hope after all.
It has been believed surf is dead, that the culture has been erased, stomped on by the Olympic WaveStorm S.U.P. Dirk and Elo conglomerate. But stories of the demise of surf are premature. Dirty Water has arrived. Join the revolution to take back what was ours.

The absolute anarchy of 2020, needs more Chas...
From surfings modern ashes, the underground voice we need. For the dudes trolling message boards and hoping for the glass off after the 9-5. Keep em’ Coming.
