Y'all-itics

279

Y’all-itics is the unofficial political podcast of Texas. Each week we’ll crack open an ice-cold Texas brew and explore a single hot topic affecting Texans. But this isn’t politics as usual. Y’all-itics doesn’t come from a fancy studio. We’re taking our podcast on the road to get past the soundbites and dive deeper into the issues that matter to y’all. Leave your labels at the door, this is a political podcast for all Texans… even the recent transplants!

    Interesting
They do a good job at being fair and balanced politically while trying to get some answers about questions that really matter to Texans. I figured maybe I would just listen to a few episodes of interest but found myself coming back each week. And, that’s coming from a person who doesn’t like beer!

The interviews Jason did were one sided. I listened to Ted Cruz speak so many lies it sounded like a ad. There was absolutely No Push Back to obvious untruths. Jason, listen to that interview and try and tell me that was not an Ad. The really bad part, I lost a great deal of respect for you. I will never be able to listen or see you without thinking that very poor interview. It sounded like he was conducting one of his podcast interviews. Sorry, but I really liked your show. Now, not so much…..

    Ok for a democrat podcast
Been listening occasionally for over a year now. You need to skip to about 5 min in unless you need a beer suggestion (they seem to prefer IPA’s). Then the two lefty reporters often discuss Texas related topics. with a progressive slant. Often have interviews with Texas related subject experts.

    Great reporting, but…
I am a West Coast person, butI enjoy your podcast and listen to it regularly. Your interview with ERCOT left me with an unanswered question. As the utility struggles to cover the gap when the energy demand is high, due to high temperatures during the night, when solar energy is no longer available, the only plan, apparently to fill that gap is to offer $6 billion, in the hopes that energy companies will build new power plants over the next several years. Was it ever discussed that instead of building power plants perhaps every home could be outfitted with a whole house battery system and if not, why not? Why couldn’t more solar and wind do the job rather than burning oil and gas? Were those options studied?

    Great Voting Information
I went online and printed the sample ballot and listened to this outstanding podcast. As I listened I made my decisions on how to vote on each amendment. The information was very helpful in understanding not only the amendments but also the potential impact of a yes or no vote. Thanks for providing the most useful information as usual!

Information and perspective not often shared
Thank you for calling out the state government for their treatment of public education in the occasions that you have. I am a spouse and a mom to teachers. I also work as support staff in public Ed. I grow attached to the students that I meet through my loved ones. We all pour our own wages and extra time into students in order to make a difference. We all flew out of bed at 6 AM this morning when we thought one of the students was in danger (she wasn’t, thank the Lord!). Our legislators and state wide leaders have failed our students and teachers over and over again. How they can continue to do this after the preventable tragedy of Uvalde just proves how uncaring and hardened their hearts have become. I thought I was a conservative voter, but if being conservative means siding with party over doing what is right for kids, count me out. Thank you for always highlighting the stories that need to be told.

    It matters
I watch the news and try to stay up on things but politics in Texas was a dark red hole for me, bit overwhelming. I think y’all do a great job of summarizing what is happing in TX. Even better job of helping me understand why I should care!

    Texas Politics and cold beer!
This may be my first review of a podcast, if it’s not I don’t remember the last time I felt strongly enough to take the time to review a podcast. Most of the podcast I listen to are tech or history based. I’ve listen to Y’all-itics since June 2022, when many were concerned about the survivability of our electrical grid. Over the past year I’ve found the Jasons to be well versed on Texas politics, issues facing our states and bring excellent guests to the podcast. I don’t always agree with the perspective of the guests but that’s fine with me I want to know what the “other side” is thinking about a specific issue. I also believe it’s good to get both sides of important issues and we have many of those in Texas. I’m not a political junky but find Y’all-itics to be a great way to get information about what is going on it Texas is a short weekly podcast and I even learn about some excellent mostly Texas beers.

    Impeach Paxton!
Just listened to the special podcast on Paxton… Wow! Just wow! At first I thought it was crazy to listen to something so long, but I found I couldn’t stop listening. Wish every voter who voted for this crook would listen to all the information laid out on your podcast. Amazing!

This is a missile in search of a target
I love the show. Great information from great sources. The show doesn’t seem biased which is all I like to hear. Objective information regarding what our political leaders are doing in service to taxpayers. During this episode I didn’t hear mention of nuclear energy and looking for Texas to explore options with safe nuclear energy. I would have expected to hear more information about this as an option if the state officials were considering it as an alternative to reducing long term energy costs.

Need to present all sides of an issue…
The bill for a business court system is tragic. It provides for judges appointed by the governor for two years.sure Gov. Abbott wants this .. it represents a perfect storm for corruption.. heaven help the company that is not actively padding the Governor’s pockets … they will have no chance in front of a judge dependent on the Governor to keep their job. You should have discussed this.

Jared Patterson is a violent, misogynistic racist who brings AR-15 rifles to Beto campaign events to intimidate women and children. Whom ever is vetting your guests deserves to be fired.

    Balanced and Informative
I really appreciate the effort by the hosts of the pod to be without bias and to just have open discussions about issues that effect actual Texans. I really enjoy listening and hope they keep doing this for a while.
  • TB in Texas
    Decent but still biased
I’ve listened to quite a few episodes, and overall they do a decent job of presenting issues from a centrist perspective. It seems like that has started to break down a bit as the legislative year winds down and the bias is pretty clear. Episode 106 served up nothing but softballs to Rep. Tallirico. Jason, by his own admission, hammered on points with Rep. Goldman. Not surprised to see bias emerge given the state of our media, but disappointed none the less. Maybe they can get back on track.

I listened to the Lincoln Project’s Wilson interview. None of Rick’s claims were addressed with counter questions. It came across like three dudes holding hands and head nodding in unison. There’s nothing a critical thinking person whet out of this podcast.

    Lincoln Project
I love everything Lincoln Project is doing. I’m so glad you got Rick Wilson on. There’s no need to apologize for Rick’s candor. It’s one of his numerous talents.

Turned on to gear political stories and was turning off when all they talked about was beer -- until they brought on Abby Livingston from Texas Tribune. She is better than beer.

    Mostly great
I love the down-the-middle perspectives across so many podcasts - Lincoln Project to Cruz and everything in between. The gun and ammo one didn’t feel that way. “Civil unrest” - really?

    Wonderful podcast!
I’ve started watching these a few days ago and I really enjoying and this is such a good podcast I had to watch over again.Keep up all the good work on these.

    Wonderfully Diverse Topics & Speakers
Jason & Jason do a great job selecting topics. It could be a subject in the current headlines or something a listener might find obscure but gives insight into a worldview never considered. They also bring a very diverse selection of speakers with different viewpoints and opinions from which I might not normally agree. From someone who has not always been politically interested, Jason & Jason help educate and motivate me to be better involved and informed.

Love the show. Learn a lot. Have you thought of having Dan Rather on your podcast. He writes some really good informational pieces. Again wouldn’t miss an episode of ya’ll show.

    Not Voting
First I would like to say this is a great podcast! I listen to you guys every week. I have been one of those people that have not voted but I did start on 2018. I got myself informed on all the candidates and make sure to have my voice heard from here on out. Keep it up guys, listen to y’all soon

    Excellent Podcast
I really enjoy listening to the two Jasons from WFAA every week. I enjoy the topics being discussed and hearing from people on both sides of the political aisle. I’m looking forward to when the pandemic will be over so I can start hearing about local eateries and the Jason’s beverage selections.

    My thoughts
I felt horrible when I saw the video of what happened to George Floyd! I have to wonder what we didn’t hear, see or know about what was happening. I’ve seen protests and I totally understand and support that. I don’t approve of the looting and destruction. I think that is just folks taking advantage of the dark and crowds. I personally believe that yes Black lives matter, but until all lives matter will we really start to have the equality we are searching for? I also believe there are groups that have their own agenda and are pushing it forward to make it look like they are part of this movement. We have to count on our leaders and the media to tell us the truth, and our brains to help us know the difference. God bless us all, everyone!

    Term limits
Hi guys! The show is great! Just listened to the Saudi Arabia discussion and it answered a lot of my questions. I’m wondering if you plan to do a show on term limits. I’m starting to realize that we have to make that happen to make progress with anything. Makes me crazy! I would ultimately like to know what I can do to help make that happen. Thanks for doing the podcast (and you aren’t left wing liberals). It’s so sad that the truth gets dismissed by calling it a “liberal opinion”. Michelle

This I love. Would love to hear a few podcasts covering education: funding, teacher salary, the Teacher Retirement system, and the lack of good health benefits.

I like how the 2 Jasons make you think about topics. I teach college government and have given these podcasts as something they can write about for a political participation paper. The guy discuss the issues in a way anyone can understand.

Very good and getting better each episode but too short
Great podcast. I really enjoy the subject matter and the production quality is top rate. The episodes are far too short. That’s truly my only complaint. 20 min just doesn’t cut it for the topics they cover. Hopefully that changes.

it’s Yall’itics for anyone who wants to understand!
Finally... A logical, intelligent, informative, and even humorous discussion of real and serious issues facing not only Texas but all the States of America. As a Texan I love the focus on how the shared American issues impact the state in which I choose to live and raise my family, And that makes for a great podcast with a really great title! In it “The J’s” do a fantastic job of telling the opposing sides of each issue they tackle without resorting to “spin”, name calling - and let’s be honest - outright lying about the “facts”. They avoid using these detrimental tactics while exploring critical issues. And in doing so they avoid reducing a discussion of problems we must solve by not getting bogged down in BS at the critical intersection where factual discussions intersect with the political system tasked with policy development and implementation. They present as many sides as possible to, if nothing else, allow both sides to understand the bare facts, showing what ultimately drives each side’s political actions. Now.... if only they could explain to the rest of us *when and why* being a moderate, and refusing to follow either ridiculous extreme set of political views, made us persona non grata in this country.... Jason and Jason, all I can say is you’re doing something remarkable and incredibly needed with this podcast!! I only wish you’d produce a much longer version of every podcast that does an even deeper dive into each issue to give us more of the “just the facts, please” information we want - and need - so very much!! I’m hooked - it’s Yall’itics for anyone who really wants to understand the real issues from differing points of view, hold the BS!

    Great Podcast
Short, informative, easy listen while being more center of the road than I typically hear in most political related discussions. I really enjoy when the individuals interviewed are personally impacted and have skin in the game on the topic being discussed. Jason & Jason do a great job following up with questions those of us listening wish we could ask. It lends to more real life discussion instead of the usual political talking points from a distance. Though I’m from Tennessee and the topics and brews sometimes sway more toward Texas, I’ve learned something from every episode and definitely will keep this podcast in my regular listen category. Thanks Jason & Jason and keep up the good work!

    I love Y’all-itics!!
As someone who has worked in politics in the past and consumes all sorts of news and podcasts, this is a weekly “must-listen” for me! They take the stuffiness out of politics and make it accessible to everyone. I feel like I’m sitting at a happy hour with friends talking. Keep up the great work, y’all!
  • Ktchil
    I don’t normally follow politics
These guys take out the drama and the opinions. They talk about things that matter locally. They address topics and let us hear how it’s affecting people here. Short episodes keep you interested. We get to hear facts and stats from both sides. Thanks Jasons!

    Typical Left Leaning Agenda
Love these two on WFAA. Was so excited for the possibility of an objective perspective from two great reporters. First episode was great. Seemed like it could be an unbiased view of politics in Texas. However, the topics of the next few podcast episodes seemed to be less objective and more one-sided perspectives. I would love to be proven wrong and see a more balanced view of guests and topics in the future, but for now I’m disappointed that it seems to be more left-leaning. No longer listening for now.

Just listened to the first podcast of the series and it was great! Very intriguing to learn how the political campaigns are going to target us in 2020. I hope I didn’t just sell my cell number to campaigns by signing up for this podcast though!!!
