smart, fun, deep dives. i wish these 2 did more podcasts.

    So GenX ❤️
Let’s face it : the vast majority of podcasters are glib, groveling midwit millennials with high grating voices who giggle reflexively and think they’re a lot smarter than they are and say things like “Die Hard is a Christmas Movie” 😖 These GenX dudes actually KNOW stuff!!

    Worth the wait
IRO isn’t updated as regularly/often as some of my other favorite podcasts, but oh man, is it worth the wait. Jeb and Blake play off each other very well and both are such amazing researchers. If you’re a paranormal nerd or a fan of In Search Of, you need these two geeks and their wonderful podcast in your life.

    So awesome!
I’m 50 years old and remember watching this program on A&E and later on The History Channel. I now have it on dvd which is great. This podcast is so entertaining, knowledgeable and informative. I really enjoy the fact that the podcasters take into consideration the fact of when these episodes were filmed and how much has changed in 40-45 years since. Looking forward to season four which is my favorite season of In Search Of…

    Bored Archaeologist Enjoying Binging
I am really enjoying this show and I am glad I found it in 2022, so I have lots of content to binge. Finally decided to review because I was shocked when I hear my undergrad advisor mentioned in the Troy episode… but I am not sure why I am so shocked- the archaeology world is small so of course one of these episodes would mention a professor I had at some point in my schooling. This show has made my long drives much more pleasant, as I feel almost as if I am having a conversation with kindred spirits. This is the kind of niche content I love to hear.

    Excellent pod!
I really enjoy this podcast. The hosts are great and it’s interesting to see/hear about the beginnings of pseudoscientific tv.

    Mike’s Sister, Psychic C. Hunt
I love this show SO MUCH! Blake and Jeb are such a wonderful podcasting team. They’re BOTH the comedians AND the straight men. The episode “Psychic Sea Hunt” is absolutely top notch entertainment. It was so funny and informative and entertaining that I finally felt nothing but shame for NOT giving this show a stellar review. I’ve been a fan of these two disembodied voices since the two-part Shaver Mysteries episodes of Monster Talk. The only thing missing from this episode is Dr. Jerry Drake. If he had been on this episode, I would’ve broken Apple’s rating system to give this episode SIX STARS!

    Terrible show.
Two smug hosts trash In Search Of while one makes puns. I think I hit my limit in the Oak Island episode where they mocked the Restall tragedy. Skip it.

    Perfect
I grew up watching this show as a child. As an adult with a science education. It is Wonderfull to revisit this show. In search of is as foundational to who I am as a person born in the early 70’s as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones. The hosts clearly share that love while critically digging in. This is the only podcast that I listen to multiple times. M

    Entertaining and informative
I’d give this podcast five stars if cohost Jeb stopped lecturing the audience like they are his college students, and had a more conversational tone, like Blake. He knows his stuff, it’s just a bit off-putting to me. Other than that it’s very entertaining and informative as they break down an episode of the 1970s “In Search Of” series and offer up more skeptical and informed possibilities of the topics discussed on the show.

    Fantastic
So glad I found this podcast. I loved In Search Of as a kid and now watch those shows again and again on YouTube. This podcast is a way for me to in enjoy these shows in a new way. Thank you for respectfully analyzing In Search Of. This show has brought me so many enjoyment exploring our world and it’s mysteries.

    Excellent Logic; Horrific Puns
This podcast is brilliant. It’s very logically laid out with impeccable research and outstanding commentary. The ONLY drawback to it all is the non-stop, gut-wrenching puns by the host - Blake. Puns are rarely as funny as the the person making them thinks they are. For the most part, it’s the pun-maker’s attempt to show how clever he/she is through what they see as an exhibition of their wit. They aren’t. They’re annoying and disturb the flow of the show. Even guests and the other host cringe each time Blake fires off one of his puns. Don’t get me wrong - I still listen to the show - but I and several other listeners would have contributed to their Patreon page had it nit been for those horrific puns. Come for the podcast, stay for the content, but please try and ignore those toxic puns!

The 1970s live… And what a tale to tell
A sharp and witty podcast, also a one-of-a-kind format, examining the legends, the myths and the just plain kooky as adapted from the syndicated series In Search Of. In short, this is a joy.

    The beginning of paranormal television
The hosts are knowledgeable and fun to listen to. If you were ever curious about how we got to a point where “educational” channels were talking about aliens and bigfoot then this podcast is for you. If you were never curious about that but enjoy learning and laughing then this podcast is also for you.

Hosts please go mic-off with your bias
When the hosts stick to the topic it is a solid show but when they let their ideologies and political leanings leak into the show’s content, it stains the quality of the show. There are so many podcasts out there with agendas and political partiality already that a podcast positioned based on research, should remove any trace of partiality. There are other podcasts out there that do this well so personally, after listening to a handful, I won’t be coming back.

    Quirky, intelligent banter
I love to have a podcast on in the background when I am working around the house, and this is one of my favorites. Jeb and Blake have amazing voices, personality, and chemistry for radio. I have never seen the show they are discussing, but that doesn’t seem to matter. It is still fun to follow their analysis and enjoy all the cultural minutiae that I would otherwise not encounter. I loved the recent episode with Nathan French on the Garden of Eden in particular. There is so much content packed into that episode! Great work!!!

    Good Stuff
These guys are super fun to listen to. They do deep dives on this show from the late 1970’s, the first TV show to deal with “real” paranormal incidents, cryptids, conspiracies, treasure hunters, and ants. They’re very aware that they don’t have all the answers, which is refreshing in this day and age. Very well put together and great production value.
  • Revans50
    Very Good
While I like the show a lot, one host talks far more than the other. I’ll let you figure it out for yourselves. Also play a drinking game, every time the they say, “we’ll get back to that” or some such variant, take a big drink of beer or whatever you’re drinking. You’ll be absolutely hammered by the end of the episode.
  • JediMindTrick17
    Essential listening
Ignorance is the enemy of justice. After an explosion of media sources that allows one to idylly cherry-pick sources of information and arrogantly choose which is "the truth," in correspondence with their world views, the vital skills of critical thinking and rational debate are being lost. Honest, sober skepticism in the face of the fantastical is essential for any society to function with a modicum of accountability and funadmental fairness. This show encourages the lost art of critical thinking, fanning the tentative embers of rational skepticism through the context of warm nostalgia: The beloved (if incredulous) In Search Of, hosted by nerd Rock Star and 70's fashion plate, Leonard Nimoy. Please, listen, enjoy, and think. But brace yourself for Blake's puns. They lurk in ambush and are invariably cringe-worthy.

Great, even if you’ve never seen the original
As someone who never watched the original series, but who has received a mythological sort of reputational hand-me-down about it, I was glad to see this show pop up from one of my favorite podcast hosts (Blake and his puns). It’s a fun way to dive into the series while bypassing the questionable science and questionable aesthetic of the original, and receiving it all predigested, as it were. Really fun and interesting podcast series. Edit: still going, still awesome. Can’t get enough.

A great review of the dawn of our current weird TV epidemic
Blake and Jeb provide a great review of the 70’s series In Search Of that in many ways is the grandparent to a lot of the modern stuff aired by places like the History Channel. Going episode by episode, the hosts dig in and research the topics covered in an entertaining manner and in greater depth than the original episode writers. I greatly enjoyed both Blake’s and Jeb’s earlier work on Monstertalk and Archeological Fantasies and if you did too you should give In Research Of a listen
  • Puffletiri
I hope these guys tackle other shows!
I listen to pretty much everything these guys produce. I really enjoy this and have also been revisiting the original show. I enjoy all the weird tangents they go on - gives me all sorts of little research journeys of my own. I hope they tackle other similar "spooky" mystery shows on tv - I'll definitely be subscribing. Keep up the good work, guys!

    Pretty good podcast
Good back and forth between the hosts. I grew up with “In Search Of”, which I really liked, but it did turn me into a skeptic. Also, not enough puns.

Don’t need to be an “In Search of” fan to enjoy!
I’m on the youngish side, so before listening to this podcast my only In Search of experience was History Channel reruns. However, you don’t need to be a fan or have watched the original show to learn. Blake and Jeb are entertaining (even with the puns!) and do an excellent job diving into each episode’s topic and the good, bad and (sometimes) ugly ways In Search of presented its subjects. A great podcast for anyone interested in the weird or paranormal as well as history or anthropology.

    Just what the world needs
Skepticism has received a bad name in the last few years, this will bring entertainment to the facts about all things weird.

A risk I'm willing to Take
I am going to need you guys to tackle Ancient Aliens next! I know that means that we run the risk of Jeb pushing the palm of his hand through his forehead, but it's a risk I'm willing to take! LOL :-) Love, Love, Love the show! Thanks for the updates and the Science. But, I really am going to need you guys to do Ancient Aliens!

    OK
Good podcast, even though I’ve never watched the original In Search Of series. Though I really don’t like it when you go into tangents.

    I love this!!
I love everything about this show! I remember watching In Search Of as a kid in the mornings while getting ready for school (years after it originally aired of course) and I loved every episode. Blake and Jeb are amazing as hosts and this show is tied with Monster Talk as my favorite podcast to listen to (I go back and re-listen to episodes all the time) plus I love the sound of Jeb's voice, it is smooth and pretty hot!
  • Kamakazie
    Good but frustrating to listen
I want to enjoy the show, a big fan of monster talk and have a lot of fond memories of In search of.” but one of the hosts Jen constantly talks over the other host and guests. I mean why have a guest if you don’t let them talk. Even when letting them talk he sighs and groans in the background and finishing sentences for them. After a while it gets so frustrating you find your self yelling “Let them talk!!” The idea and the content is excellent so if you can get past the host you might enjoy it.

A great way to relax into sleep
I have never heard of “In search of...” but in a world filled with real horrors such as this pandemic, this president, and people sick and dying- listening to these stories about nonsense gives me the chance to fall asleep for a few hours until the real world slams back. Thank you.

    Let Blake Talk
I really want to love this podcast. The content is great. It’s a lot of fun. Blake’s audio issues seem to be fixed. My problem with the show is that Jeb won’t let anyone else talk. And when they do, he interrupts them. A lot.
  • DC-213
    My favorite podcast!!!
Blake and Jeb bring insight and entertainment in one show. Thanks guys!!
  • Mikecatcher50
Can I give it an eight star rating?
First I do love most of what Blake Smith does. Second, if Jeb Card had been one of my professors (unfortunately, he wasn't born when I finished my undergrad degree), I might have ended up changing majors from history to archeology. Between them, they do a wonderful, enlightening, humorous, and serious job of looking at "In Search of" and distinguishing between fact and the fiction that has, in many ways become accepted fact. Oh, and that is to say nothing of the serious and most important reviews of Leonard Nimoy's fashion choices.
  • SouthernRebel
I really want to like this
I really loved “in search of” when I was a kid and I thought this was going to be a great podcast. And for the most part it is..... but Jeb.... oh Jeb... Jeb seems to want folks to know he is the smartest guy in the room. Talks over people.. interrupts people ... it’s annoying
  • ElleAndAshMom
    My new favorite show!
“In Research of” is now my favorite podcast! I love the source material as well as the critiques. I find the show very relatable because I am about the same age as both hosts, have many of the same nerdy interests (role playing and video games), and live in Blake’s home state. Keep up the excellent work!

    Interesting and fun!
A great new podcast that's both entertaining and informative. I enjoy the hosts' other podcasts, MonsterTalk and Archaeological Fantasies, and they both do a great job with this one too.

"A Giant Merry Podcast, Part 'MonsterTalk', Part 'In Search Of'!"
"In ReSearch Of" ia a fantastic podcast! It is very well-produced. The hosts know their subject and present it in an informative and friendly manner. I looke forward to each new episode in the same manner I did the original "In Search Of"> If you're a longtime MonsterTalk listner (like me), if you understand you can still love all things paranormal yet still be skeptical (also like me), and especially if you grew up watcing "In Search Of" (again, like me) you will absolutely love "In ReSearch Of"! Hosts Jeb Card and Blake Smith obviously share my childlike appreciation for “In Search Of” yet still have their feet planted firmly on the ground when it comes to science and reason. This allows them to look at the individual episodes of “In Search Of” with the same eye of wonder and awe most of us had when we first watched the original series but then go the extra step the producers admittedly failed to take and TRULY look into the mysteries they examine. So if you understand that a person can have an appreciation for all things mysterious yet still be skeptical and appreciate science and reason, you will love “In ReSearch Of”! Host Blake Smith is a veteran podcaster with 10 years’ experience with his always fantastic “Monster Talk” podcast, so you can’t go wrong with “In ReSearch Of”! Bonus points for the kick butt theme song that channels the original “In Search Of” opening theme music, and the brief, yet much-needed, discussion of Nimoy’s 70s clothing!
  • BigPinkDragon
    Engaging Childhood Memories
“In Search Of” was the foundation my lifelong fascination in cryptids, UFOs, ancient mysteries, etc. The discussions between Jeff and Blake are always engaging. Definitely one of my new favorites!
  • B.Lugosi
    Nimoy The Merrier!
I needed more Jeb Card and Blake Smith in my ears, and covering a series that was near and dear to my formative years is just the ticket. If you’re looking for an uncritical love letter to In Search Of, look elsewhere, because you’re going to get a critical analysis from a skeptical and scientific perspective. But they make it fun as well as informative, and loaded with punny goodness.

    Love this show
I’ve listened to the first episode and it’s brilliant. I can’t believe I have a companion podcast to go along with my new In Search Of DVD boxed set. I’m really going to enjoy this show and I’m looking forward all the information, insights, and history that the hosts of the In Research Of podcast will be providing in each new episode.
  • Aaron Bobick
    Super skeptical
What a great show already!! The pilot was full of pertinent tangents (I’ve always loved Jeb’s digressions) that helped explain the history of a show we all know and love. I love Monster Talk and ArchyFantasies, and this collaboration of skeptical minds is truly brilliant! Looking forward to future episodes. Thanks!
  • Calen R.
    Really intriguing
As someone who was born significantly after In Search Of, I was a bit curious if this podcast would pique my interest - I can safely say that it did! So much so I’ve begun to start watching them. Smith and Card do an excellent job contextualizing the material and make an incredible effort to address the all claims and contents of the program. Any listeners who enjoy the shows the hosts are already on will be quite satisfied with their new project. P.S. The thorough show notes are great - they add significantly to the listening/learning experience.
