VampbludMasterful and EducationalDoug pours a ton of research into each show and brings high quality, well educated guests to talk about each topic. I admire his passion for the historical aspects of each topic as well as the magical and spiritual.

globemaster93WOW!Not only the best pod cast on magic and the occult but probably one the best all time pod casts I've had the pleasure of listening to.
-
Behold I am MatthewHighly recommendThis is the information I’ve been seeking. A wealth of information and a catalyst to excellent book recommendations and other esoteric thinkers & podcasts. Thank you Doug, you have advanced my odd journey.
-
ana691!FantasticTremendous amount of information, a compendium basically, and all for free as well as top notch guests from the occult and magical world. Also he lists the books referenced which has helped me to amass my own pretty impressive library. He is really a one man Hogwarts! Thank you!

Mr.DaveedFaveOne of my top favorite podcasts! Love the information and pointers!
-
c_papavLet your guests speak! It is very annoying that this host will not shut up long enough for the listener to hear the guest’s perspectives on their area of expertise. So arrogant, no thanks.

Tweeder 44MagickJust discovered your podcast a week ago! Enjoying it very much! Very interesting!

Moomoo the ugly shoeThe show does get betterI wrote a review when I first started listening to the podcast because I started from the beginning and I didn’t think I would continue with it because of how off-put I was by the first few episodes. However, I gave it another try and it does get a lot better as he starts including more people who are knowledgeable about the occult. This is one of the best deep-dives into occult history I’ve stumbled across in a podcast. Most people just make podcasts about magick and stick to what they know or interviewing, but Doug does a lot of research and there is a lot of useful context he provides. I’m still working through the podcast but it’s now my go-to because I know I will learn something new in a way that’s accessible to a variety of audiences and I do recommend it to newer practitioners and more advanced alike.

wylken wylderVery good listeningI quite enjoy listening to this podcast when I am at work. It gives me a fresh perspective on subjects I have already heard and or researched myself. I would love to pick his mind or at least give him a copy of my book just to hear his honest opinion on it. The subject matter is of the strange and the occult, it gives that and much more. I am unfortunately, not on patreon and I have no time to scroll through discord or its servers. Heaven knows I did a lot of that in my streamer days. Will you learn something new from this podcast and its host and guests? Yes. It all depends on how you approach this podcast. Like any situation in life, hit the pause button. Check inventory and drink your health potion, do anything that helps get you ready to hear and listen. Come into any of the episodes with negative emotions or even if you get pulled out of the mild hypnotic pattern you would normally get when listening to something you enjoy. Just take a moment, You can’t view on an empty stomach and you certainly can’t learn anything if you are fighting the host to begin with. Not gonna lie, when Doug is all alone, it feels empty, I wanna hear someone chime in like in iron chef with questions. But thats just how the dice rolled in that case. Would I like to hear the full unedited recordings from start to finish with the hiccups and the burps and reality left in. YES. I wanna hear an honest derp moment and then laughter, because those have a better listening experience. Thats just my opinion, the episodes would seriously be four to five hours long. But I also wouldn’t mind that as well, really talk, thats the topic that was chosen. Hiccups and back tracking and correcting. Listen to it, support the guy, Im saving up for it. Cus, if you made it through this rant about the show… you probably like the show as well. Cheers mate!

Mix Masta GordoWizards Episode!1st time writing a podcast review- been listening to an episode every night-good stuff I love it! Had a great time listening to the Wizards! With a Wizard! and thought it was one of my favorite so far! It really rang a bell twisting Merlin, Yoda, Moondog, John Dee, and Sun Ra into part of the same picture-the picture of magic! Give it a listen-expand your ideas of what magic is.
-
CuriousierWonder working wordsSuch a fresh vocalization of esoteric topics, while showing proper respect and historical attributions.
-
LbnevadaFantastic podcastOne of my top two Magic podcasts. Host is so knowledgeable and he has incredible guests. Very informative!!
-
MandyishOverwhelming knowledgeBetween Doug and his guests, you’re sure to find the opening to many new and exciting rabbit holes with this podcast. And if that’s not enough, the show notes will give you exponentially more. Get ready to buy books. Also the Patreon is worth it for the discord group alone. 🤘
-
AJAY 1990GoodFive stars but my suggestion is that the host not interrupt the guests with affirmative “okays” “got its” unless the guests have really finished speaking. The host should disappear while the guests expound.
-
John StashWMiT? GOAT!This is best podcast out there for learning about the fundamentals of the history, philosophy, and practice of magic. It is highly educational and a blast to listen to. The best analogy I could think of is that host Douglas Batchelor does for the occult what Alton Brown does for food. The content is well researched and organized with fantastic reading recommendations for deeper delving. If you have even one iota of interest in magic, scroll through the previous episodes, find a subject that floats your boat, and give it a listen. You won’t regret it.
-
FurbyPriestessOne of the top magic/occult podcastsI have been listening to WMIT for over a year, and I love how informative and well researched the episodes are. Good academic backbone. Not only that but the host is genuine and honest without being arrogant. The dad jokes at the beginning of the episodes are a treat.
-
Bojangles4everGood but arrogantIn a lot of ways I really like this podcast. Doug is knowledgeable and has a lot of good practical advice. But mixed in with the good is a bad attitude. He has a chip on his shoulder about the Golden Dawn. Ok fine. But he also says it doesn’t work and that it’s some kind of tragedy that people spend much of their lives on a magical system that isn’t real. There are a lot of people who would disagree with this, but I guess they are all wrong and this host is right. It especially doesn’t make sense in the context of the clear influence chaos magic has had on Doug. From a chaos perspective, what is it about any magical system that wouldn’t “work”?

ccsstarot5/5 PentaclesFantastic show! The information on this show is legit and well researched!

SammzigTrusted Source of Information About MagickI have been an intermediate solo magician for what seems like my entire life, never growing or learning for fear I may do the “wrong thing” magically. The host of this podcast never looks down on beginners, but will always give a firm push to expand your own talents. The host always emphasizes the importance of getting out there and just doing it for yourself. I have learned so much about my own journey, and how to progress from here. Thank you Douglas- things make sense now, and I don’t feel as alone as I used to. Edited: Also being a guest on this podcast recently has opened up a whole journey for me within the subject that I guested for. Doug was super engaging, listened, and gave me space to think and speak, without talking over me. I wish I can give this podcast more stars.
-
Glum SlasherExcellent ContentI just finished a second listen to the Christopher Warnock episode from April 2022. WMIT presents an entertaining and informative variety of guests and subjects, and often pops up when I search specific topics, writers, etc.
-
Sneaky SmurfsIlluminating!I stumbled upon this podcast when first getting into Tarot, and at first it was a lot to take in with so many topics being covered. After almost a year of doing some independent research and practice, I have dove head first into this extensive library of grand topics. I will say my favorite part of the podcast is the “Fools Gallery” which does a deep dive on many famous (or infamous) esoteric/occult figures such as Helena Blavatsky, Manly P. Hall, and Carl Jung. If you want to learn more about Ceremonial magic, herbalism, secret societies, astrology, dream work and quite a bit more you will love this podcast. I would give it the magic number of 7 stars if I could. Thank you Douglas (and your many guests)
-
Robert KrøssInformative and amazing!Doug really knows his stuff. I have been listening to the show for the past few months and it is truly the best magic/occult podcast I’ve heard so far. He does a great job of giving historical background on the subject matter, while weaving in personal stories, opinions, and practical uses. Just the best.

DudeItsDante!Come for the recommendations, stay for the Doug…So much more then A fantastic way to bolster your reading wishlist!!! Initially getting into WMIT is fairly simple; Pick an episode topic that peaks your interest and leap! You will be granted a perfectly concise launch pad with the tools for further research given in the show notes. It’s a brilliant “wide net cast” formula that worked for me. But even with the show notes aside, Douglas’ perspective, Guest banter and insightful grasp on the topic will have you returning to What Magic Is This time and time again. The sad truth is that most podcasts in the Occultism orbit tend toward a particular directive… Either they are a new agey self help podcast sporting the guise of an occult practitioner podcast or a self proclaimed “master of the craft” spends the entire episode essentially trying to sell you an online course on the topic… This podcast is neither of those things and let me assure you, it is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise damp and dank environment. Douglas is a fantastic host and his opinions are always disclaimed as just that. If you have been around the block in these circles you know how deep the elitist well runs and I think you’ll find this podcast too be a palpable addition to your common rotation.

Hillary206Great!I really enjoyed the Mitch Horowitz interview! I look forward to listening to the other podcasts. Thanks for your work!
-
Pharmhand25Wonderful!I’ve recently found Douglas after searching for information on the Golden Dawn. This guy is awesome and I’m really loving his stuff and I’ve learned plenty from him! He is also very pleasant to listen to and funny to boot! Definitely give him a try!
-
m.r. wormwoodWell grounded and informativeI have been a listener of what magic is this since its inception, and Douglas continues to produce an approachable, well grounded, and informative podcast featuring guest with diverse perspectives.
-
#kingnerdTRantosaurusGreat guests, intelligent conversation, useful information. 👍👍
-
WretchedXSVery accessibleI really enjoy the format tutor/student. I am new to magic studies and this podcast has really helped me navigate the field and separate what is useful to me and what is not.
-
DugzMcGreat listeningThis podcast offers great insight and opinions on magic. Douglas is well read and holds the right amount of skepticism while embracing the reality that magic is efficacious.
-
hdthcjyevhsgjugA must listenSimply put it doesn’t get much better in the occult podcast arena. The episodes are chuck full of well researched material and well balanced in their presentation of the material. The host Douglas is a true treasure also and always so helpful when I reach out to him. This podcast is a must listen!

fascinus🧿>>Probably the best Magic Podcast<<THE best podcast on Magic, plain and simple! Listeners must keep in mind that with guests, sometimes Douglas may be more actively asking the person questions, but other times he explains it's like a "tutoring" kind of style, where the guest is basically a stand in for the broader listener base. They can ask questions, but mostly they listen and offer personal experience. It really varies by episode though! I'd say there's an even balance of each style. This is by FAR the most enjoyable and informative magic podcast I've had the pleasure to listen to. (You'll enjoy Douglas' cheerful yet firm podcast voice, btw.) I'm rating this 5 stars, but I might rate 4.99...9 here in the review because, honestly, I did not have the best time in the Patreon discord. I guess it's common sense to know that if you go to a Magic server, you're going to encounter some strong personalities. It was generally pretty positive among everyone, but there was basically one condescending/narcissistic character I had experienced tension with, and that was enough hostility for me to nope on out of there. (Unfortunately!) Would have loved to stay and be friends with more people. I kind of hope that in the future Doug talks to her about it, but I'll have no idea because I won't be there and I won't be returning.
-
EveryoneusuallyhasavalidpointGreat for people engaging magic from all anglesGreat, informative show all about the history, philosophy, and how-to’s of magic, whether you’re exploring from an academic or practicing perspective.
-
Astral Traveler JoshExcellent Magic Podcast!Phenomenal content and seemingly broad topics that are thoroughly explained and discussed! Excellent for those interested in esoterica, gnostic subjects, historical figures and magic through the ages! So glad I found this show and I can’t stop listening to it! The list of books I want to read because of this show grows with each episode!

BigblurrThe best place to startI found the WMIT? podcast after looking up podcasts on Discordianism, and stumbled upon the first episode, and never left. I love this podcast for a multitude of reasons; the sound quality is great, and the topics are interesting, but most of it comes down to Douglas being an authentic and sincere presenter. This podcast has added so much to my practice, and I’m very grateful for that. WMIT? is much less spooky than some occult podcasts; there’s no goth intro music, no black background/white font with a signal on the icon, and Douglas’s voice is cheerful, and he never hesitates to crack a dad joke when given the opportunity. It’s a refreshing escape from the “black cloaks by candlelight” vibe that so many occult podcasts have. The episodes are packed full of information, and have given me enough of an overview on a topic that I will know by the end of an episode if it’s a good fit for my practice or not. I’ve often relistened to episodes and latched onto new ideas that I hadn’t caught the first time. Douglas is approachable, and the 2 or 3 times I had a question, he was quick to respond with sage advice. This podcast sounds great, has so much information to build a practice on, and Douglas is an awesome host and a great representative of the occult community. I wish I had more stars to give!
-
czkaterinaKabbalahI am listening to the Kabbalah episode and cannot help myself wonder why he doesn’t let the guest, who is actually Jewish and more informed on the subject, speak. He literally asks a question and answers it himself. He admits that he doesn’t know the pronunciation but doesn’t let her explain nor correct him. I guess anyone can have a podcast especially when it allows him to hear himself talk literally at all times.
-
iateursoupA Little bit of EverythingWhen I found this show it was by chance. I listened to the episode about magic and mental health, and I was hooked. Douglas really does his research and has such a diverse crowd of guests, who really help explain the topic from a personalized perspective. You get a little history, laughs, information, and ideas that you can add to your own practice or to see things in a different way. I’ve listened to so many of these episodes and have been really loved each one. I love magic, history, and the occult, if you do too give it a shot.

dat1chickExpected Lead, Got GoldThis podcast was recommended to me on facebook after asking about sigils. I will admit I have not yet made it to the sigil episode. Started at the beginning and have been so thoroughly impressed and entertained by each topic that I have been taking my time on each! The information is quite comprehensive for a beginner like me, but so much source material is pointed to, even more practiced folks can find something new. Doug’s tone is comfortingly patient and humorous. Love this.
-
incostantemotoFantastic occult podcast!Doug always just a wonderful job. The episodes are great and extremely informative. Definitely one of the best occult podcast hosts out there.
-
SoPacSoulJahDon't sleep on this podcast, simply amazing!I love this podcast! The content is well thought out and structured beautifully. Upon discovering this podcast I binged every episode inside of 3 weeks. Now I've begun to relisten my favorite episodes and digging into the show notes, which are loaded full of info. I grew up listening to a lot of Canadian radio, living in a border State, and the longest running radio documentary "The Ongoing History of New Music" is hosted by Alan Cross. The cadence between the two are uncanny. Douglas is the Occult/Magic Alan Cross. Don't sleep on this podcast!
-
Tillie85My favorite esoteric podcastThis podcast, & douglas’s personality in general is so lovely, refreshing, & inspiring! It’s very difficult for me to get into podcasts in general, but I’m so glad to have come across WMiT. The heart, work, and care Douglas puts into each episode shows so much and I’ve learned SO much already, though only gone through maybe 1/4 of the show so far. If you’re interested in or even curious about anything magic, this podcast is perfect for you. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen!
-
type1AWhat the wooWhy am I suddenly hearing about simulation theory and alien gods? Yikes.
-
pprocesseddIlluminatingThis podcast has an excellent balance of sincerity and skepticism. I love the way the ideas are presented because these episodes give an excellent peripheral bedrock for further investigation of the subjects discussed. Truly a unique series. Thank you for making it!
-
asdlkfjasdEnchanting and InformativeNot only does each episode offer an entertaining, informative glimpse into a variety of esoteric issues, but the ongoing series has become almost a library unto itself. This is a wonderful series and Doug is just delightful. Outstanding show…like and subscribe!
-
pantlesspandasCame for the knowledge, stayed for the hostDoug is just so charming, in that ‘wow he really loves his work’ kind of way. I’m so fortunate to have stumbled across this well produced, researched, and sometimes hilarious podcast. An even better treat (cause I just had to get more content) the Patreon content is phenomenal.
-
Argyle WinterMy new favoriteProbably the most informative and focused Magic/occult podcast I’ve ever heard. I’ve been listening many hours a day for almost two weeks and the list of episodes I need to hear just keeps growing. I’ve been getting so much value out of it that I became a WMIT Patron member. More informative than half my bookshelf. Thank you Douglas.
-
broke as heck nowBest occult podcast on the webDoug is the most approachable person in the business. He is a fountain of knowledge on the subjects of his episodes and brings the much needed levity without being ridiculous. His guests are always interesting and play well with Doug’s personality. Pull up a chair and learn a few things.
-
DeandolSo informativeLove this show and the large scope of topics covered. The host is sincere and polite and asks the right questions to push the show and guests further into discussion. So glad to have found it!
-
ersulla713Always AmazingI truly value this show; the host is sincere, eager to learn, and committed to his mission to spread infromation, wisdom, and resources to his listeners. I always enjoy the material and there is always something to look deeper into. As a spiritual person curious and eager to consume as much information on subjects such as those presented here I find it inspiring to listen to like-minded people discuss topics that are often swept under the rug or discredited for whatever reason. Higly recommed scrolling through the titles and listening to what pops out to you- I've never been dissappointed.
-
"Not" a wizardI want to LEAAAAAARN!I am very fascinated with magic and occult topics. I am very ignorant on these topics. The more I read the more I realize just how ignorant I am about the many topics, sub-topics, and extensive histories behind them. What Magic Is This provides comprehensive conversations that can be very solemn and deep discussions but also can be very lighthearted and fun. It helps direct reading and discovery. Love it.
-
PiscesinNarniaCuriouser and CuriouserThis episode was fascinating for me from start to end. I spent some time thinking about many of the topics that came up in this episode which were: honoring the full breadth of the human experience, assessing how we treat people that are different (eccentric, unique) how to live knowing you will never be accepted by institutions, how we amor ourselves, what is it to reconnect with our bodies, how energy is expressed in our relationships and expressed sexually as well as the hidden aspects of the body within the life we live. Connecting the occult (practices) directly to theories of the body and pulsation (located near 1:08 and 1:11) and the “work” that can benefit us as we engage in our lives via our practices. It’s rare that I hear people discussing occult, sex, life, repression and the connections to psychoanalysis (with such depth) highlighting the importance of the emotional work in order to engage and live fully within your emotional life. Doug and Dan did an excellent job of not only highlighting the compelling life (lives) of Rilke but also diving into the self and the critical aspects of the body, emotions and energy. And we also get into cloud busting and orgasms!!! What else do you need people??
