So hype to hear part two!
Can’t wait to hear what yall come up with next I loved this whole series so far and I’m picky. It’s hard for me to find stuff I enjoy so thank you for making my long cold days of work pleasant

    So quiet🫠
Great podcast and story! But it is so quiet, I have the volume max out and can still barely hear it, I feel like I have to be in a closed off room blasting this through a stereo to be able to hear what’s going on! Maybe tune it to where we don’t have to turn it up as much?would love to get back into it!

    Happy tuesday
A really neat story. The second season did a good job of subverting expectations and the overall sound was really good. The second season was kinda repetitive at times but still worth a listen

    Enjoyable
With two seasons, each ~90 minutes long, this is a wonderful self-contained sci-fi story with themes of isolation/loneliness. I enjoyed how the story built as the main character's journey took its toll and his backstory was revealed, leading to a tragic outcome.

Be warned, you will (probably) cry
Started out disliking the protagonist and almost dropped it. Glad I stuck through to the end. A bit predictable, but still great.

This is a short listen, but I made me cry like a baby :’)

    sci-fi podcasts, dime a dozen
this one does not stand out from the crowd. too many men making podcasts that star boring “”everyman”” characters. cant listen to a podcast where the main character is insufferable, sorry

    Amazing storytelling!
I found your show through the Constants podcast and have to say it’s such a binge worthy podcast!! You tell such an amazing story and I had it pegged for a “Truman Show”esqe type scenario from about the third episode in!!! Loved every second of it and can’t wait to meet the rest of the characters and hear their stories!!! Keep up the good work!!! ❤️

    Fantastic and unique story
This show is so solidly crafted and well acted in this sci-fi audio drama that is not space opera, but existential examination. One of the finest audio dramas packed in a handful of episodes. Highly recommended!
  • Runksmash
    Amazing and beautiful.
The story told in the first season is beautiful and I can’t say anything about it without spoiling it, but it’s very well made. It’s a must listen.

    Space drama at it's finest
This show has so much to offer. It is quick and to the point, being a fairly short audio drama, but every episode is a true gem. The ending of this show is very well crafted and really helps to bring a sense of meaning and importance to the rest of the season. This is a show you listen to two or three times, and you'll enjoy it each listen.

    Great shorty Audio Drama
Directive immerses you in the of a man who has no friends, family or really anything to live for. Stuck under the wallows of debt from unemployment Frank gets asked to join a outer space escort mission with a twist. This story line with amazing audio production makes Directive a must listen for any Audio Drama fan! - Podcast Junkie
  • Doing this To Get Function
    Deliberate, Smart Audio Fiction
Directive is so tightly formed, and so deliberate in its storytelling, that its first season stands alone as a classic short story formed in audio. The choices in audio and the slow build to its final ending is so, so good. The first season is amazing, and only has further to go as it goes along.

What if Aperture Science wasn't a joke?
This series takes a nice dive into one of my favorite aspects of science: the human mind. Technology is often seen as frightening only when AI rise to rebel against humans, but honestly, humans are much more terrifying when left to their own devices. I got some great Moon (2009) vibes from this.

    Truly Amazinf
This show is insanely well done and at the end of just six episodes you’re left there crying and it’s just so impressive how good it is. Incredibly heart-wrenching in the best way possible. Perfect for an afternoon where no one will be around.

    A fantastic audio drama
This is such a well done series! The acting is excellent and the story keeps you engaged. The emotional range and gamut Frank experiences really comes through richly. I can't recommend it enough!

    amazing
this is genuinely one of the best podcasts i've heard in a while. the editing and sound quality beautiful mesh in with the narrator's voice in the perfect mesh of cynicism and hope. no spoilers, but this story handeled an easy to wear out trope so beautifully. i genuinely hope there's a continuation of this story in the future!

    This is great
This podcast checks all kinds of boxes for me. Sci fi, space, doubt, music, great writing, and acting. Short and sweet.

    time very well spent
If you don't have a lot of time to spend on podcasts, first of all, I'm so sorry for you, and second, add this to the list because it's worth it. As others have said, the protagonist is very familiar -- painfully so, at times. The writing is perfectly paced to keep you moving forward; great acting, compelling storytelling.

    Wonderful and intriguing
A wonderful podcast like I’ve never heard before, the topic addressed is something that I’ve never seen done before in many pieces of media, and it does it so wonderfully. I spent one morning listening to the whole show and was instantly hooked, from the characters to the sound design I just loved every second of the show and what it has to offer. I absolutely can’t wait to see what the creator may have next in terms of this project or another, I’ll be there listening ASAP.

Surprising, Quick Pace, & Lots of Feelings
I didn't really know what to expect going into this, but I very quickly was pulled into the world Frank was in. The use of sound effects, especially with direction, gave it so much realism, allowing me to imagine his environment. The writing is natural and quick paced. I was able to follow the story very easily. Suddenly an hour and a half had gone by, the story over, and I was emotional. The voice acting is So. Good. Listening to this was definitely time well spent!

A stunning show of modern literature
Directive is a podcast for people who want to relate to the protagonist. It is a podcast for those looking for a laugh, and for those who want a full story in a short time. Some novels take a thousand or more pages to hit. Some podcasts can take fifty or sixty episodes. Directive causes the reader to fall in love with Frank, become him, and then have their heart shattered - all within the span of a single afternoon. This is the perfect podcast to listen to on a long drive, or when you’re working to finish a mindless project. Mind you, however - you’ll want to sit down for the last episode. I don’t often fall in love with a piece of media. I’ll listen, enjoy it, and proceed to forget its existence. Directive, however, is a podcast that will stay with me for a long time. It gives me things to think about, a story to repeat over and over. I recommend listening with headphones for the full experience - if you want it to sound like everything is happening all around you. With its use of sound effects, it turns a simple recording into a fully immersive story that shows how far we have come when sharing our ideas with the world. Perhaps listen to it on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. And remember: The directive is not adoptive.

    Oh boy
This is such an amazing podcast. The music and general sound design is beautiful, the characters and dialogue are funny and emotional (and a little too relatable for comfort, oof), and the voice acting is top notch. Just. Wow.
  • 👍👎😄😒
So many emotions - satisfaction included.
I really should have read the reviews before listening to the series because I was not mentally prepared to be thrown into an emotional rollercoaster that ends at Tearsville. Phenomenal, purposeful writing, beautiful quality voice acting and audio, interesting characters, and an engaging plot.

    Simply amazing
I listen to a lot of podcasts, and I burn through them really quickly because I work long hours alone. I would recommend to not listen to this podcast at work, because it will make you cry and you will look like a fool. However, I 100% believe any podcast fan should listen to it. The writing is amazing, the voice acting is phenomenal and the overall sound of the podcast is incredible. If anyone has anything bad to say about this podcast, they can fight me irl. -canis
  • Really liked the game
    Wow
This was a ride of a podcast. In only an hour and a half it rips your heart out and explores the human psyche in an amazing way. It explores what years of isolation can do to a person’s brain expertly. And just wait until the ending. I highly recommend it, just be ready to shed at least a few tears.

    Storytelling at its finest
This really showcases the art of storytelling. The world is fleshed out enough for the listener to be engaged, and the characters are so real. The arc is just long enough to get listeners invested without dragging on for too long. Highly recommend!!

    A Meaningful Experience
Directive is a great story with an evocative conclusion. Frank is written in a very relatable way, and while his story was sometimes saddening to listen to, I found him and his perspectives really interesting. The end is absolutely heartbreaking, and it feels like a well-earned conclusion. The one thing I would mention is that I didn’t realize until the last episode that this was a miniseries—I initially thought that these were the first six episodes of a longer space drama like Wolf 359. Because of that, there were aspects of the story that I received differently than if I had known how short it actually was, and I experienced emotional whiplash near the end when that became clear. For its short length (I easily listened to it in a day) and its high intensity, I would highly recommend listening to Directive.

    Amazing
I really didn’t think an audio drama that’s only 90 minutes total could get me invested. I was entirely wrong because by the end of the last episode I was crying. This story is really great about isolation and what it can do to the human mind but also the lengths people will go to when they’re desperate. Seriously an amazing show and if you have 90 minutes to spare you should absolutely listen to it. You won’t regret it.

    A Quick and Entertaining Story
This series is interesting, well-fleshed out, and an intense emotional journey for anyone looking for a quick listen. The main character, Frank, is relatable within the first episode, and the back-and-forth between the current story and the backstory keeps readers engaged. The plot twist at the end is amazing and definitely threw me for a loop. There were some audio issues, so make sure you are either in a quiet room or playing the podcast through a speaker. Other than that, I really enjoyed it!

    Amazing
Carefully crafted, compelling story. You get bits and pieces of the story at different times and the main character is engaging, flawed, and totally relatable. Give it a listen.

    Fantastic
Really great story with good development, interesting characters, and a fascinating premise. The production quality is just beautiful, and the sound effects and voice acting are all awesome. I loved being able to consume the whole thing in a single afternoon. This is such a well told story and an absolutely amazing podcast. Slight SPOILERS: I don’t normally like sad endings but the bittersweetness of this one was great and I really appreciated the closure Frank got.

    Short doesn’t mean simple
An excellent example of the podcast medium! Short doesn’t mean simple—this podcast is a profound exploration of motivation and the absence of human interaction in just six episodes. Well worth the listen!

    Brilliant
I'm writing this through tears because of how emotionally wrecked the final episode has me. First, I want to say that the production quality is top-notch. The acting is spot-on, the sounds and music come together to create an incredibly immersive atmosphere, and oh my God the writing is phenomenal. I absolutely adore the concept and where it was taken, but to avoid spoilers I want to emphasize how believable and relatable the main character is. His sense of humor is engaging, his reactions to his situation and development are amazingly realistic, and the thoughts his perspective provokes are going to stay with me for a very, very long time. I felt every ounce of his own pain and heartbreak as if it were my own--and it became my own as the story came to a close. I'm definitely going to be relistening as soon as I can. Thank you for such a brilliant experience.
