What the Riff?!?

40

Every week, “WHAT THE RIFF?!?” takes a look at a ROCK AND ROLL album that debuted or peaked on the U.S. Billboard charts during a random month between 1965-1995. Four friends discuss the artists and 4 tracks from the album as it plays in the background. Then we riff on 4 “staff picks” of other artists that were also in the charts during that month and year. You’ll hear some familiar tunes as well as some deeper cuts and entertainment tracks as we share a little look into the culture and happenings of that day— having fun recalling that “old time rock and roll.” We hope to bring back memories for you — and we encourage you to find and purchase the tracks and albums from iTunes, Spotify or your other favorite music service. You’ll find each episode with a short blog on this site. Please subscribe so you don’t miss any release! We also invite you to follow us and learn more about us @whattheriffpodcast on Facebook.

    Great podcast
I love almost all genres of music, especially from the time frame discussed on this podcast. I enjoy their discussions about the artists, etc. I will say the music can be a little loud compared to the volume of the guys’ voices. Just a small complaint, no big deal. I’d love to hear them talk about some more Metallica alums.

Wish you knew more than me
I just listened to you guys talk about Days Of Future Passed by the Moody Blues. I wish you knew more than me about the Moodies. However, they never played with an orchestra on this album. Did you guys even mention the Mellotron?

    Great Podcast
This podcast is a great listen. I really enjoy the commardarie amongst the hosts. It feels like hanging out with friends discussing music, and it seems I finish each podcast learning something new about an artist or song I didn't know before. Also made turned me onto artists I either previously didn't know, or only knew based off of radio singles. Keep up the great work guys!

    Nostalgic!
I really enjoy listening every week. I never really learned anything about the bands I listened to while I was growing up. So it’s fun to reminisce with the music every week and learn something fun about what was actually happening with the bands. Thanks for all the time and research guys. It’s really fun!

    For music lovers
Although I grew up in Boston, my music experiences mirror these guys. When they tell stories around the music, they are just like my stories. Thanks, guys!!

    Great stuff
Whattheriff keep me up all night, because I found it so entertaining. The four regulars have great personalities and have great knowledge of the albums. I enjoyed their personal stories of songs, concerts, and albums. It’s more than just commentary on an album, they also discuss current events and pop culture. I like the surprise of each personal song pick and the comedy pick. I highly recommend giving it a try.

    Lots of interesting background info
Really great podcast. Very interesting facts about the bands they discuss. Wonderful assortment of different musicians. They do their homework well on all the bands. Only con is all the guys seem to have a different quality of voice audio. One or two sound very clear, the others for some reason have lower quality of sound and lower volume. I had to keep turning up and down volume. Keep up the great work guys! Looking forward to listening to more episodes.

Interesting and entertaining discussions while being informative and humourous. Fun way to listen and become educated about a lot of our famous bands of the 80's and beyond. Cool guys.

    Fun Interesting Podcast
It’s way more than just an album review. You get background stories on the making of the album and info about the artists. Also they do a bit of that day in history news plus other songs from different artists that were popular at that time. Awesome blast from the past.

If you love music you will love “What The Riff?!?”
If you are aged like me (50+) these guys cover almost everything you listened to and more including genres from funk to hard core rock. If you are younger you are so lucky to have so much great music to choose from at your fingertips everyday. The guys have already hit several of my favorites and some I didn’t know were so good and will get more play from me. I am sure it will expose some less heard cuts for our younger music lovers to discover for the first time. Great job guys. Keep EM coming!
