Faith Adjacent

Education #108

Conversations involving faith are often fraught with scholarly nerd alerts about ancient linguistics and inaccessible theological discussions centered around hermeneutics. But what if there was a way to use your pop culture literacy to enhance your biblical literacy? Welcome to Faith Adjacent, the podcast where we try to understand the modern dynamics of faith through a combined commitment to uncomfortable honesty, authentic weirdness, and critical thinking. Faith Adjacent is hosted by Knox McCoy and Jamie Golden of The Popcast along with Resident Bible Scholar Erin Moon.

    Prodigal Listener Returns
After pausing my Patreon membership, I returned to Faith Adjacent - I missed the bonus content too much! The hosts are excellent with great chemistry and the topics are thought provoking and culturally relevant. Highly recommend!

Better than any Sunday School flannel graph!
This is what my heart needed as I embarked on healing that was needed after growing up during purity culture and the moral majority. So thankful for the entire team.

    LOVE my seminary professors
I love Faith Adjacent so much! It feels like they’re my besties and we do our little weekly check-ins. I admire Erin, Evan, and Jamie so much and I’m always thankful for their valuable insight. Listening to episodes and being in the seminary is my favorite parasocial activity ❤️

    The conversations we want
I love this podcast. They have fun and poignant conversations about culture and Christianity and as a recovering evangelical it the things I want to talk to others about. They are thoughtful, funny and don’t always agree - which I also love. Give it a try.

It’s a delicate dance and they do it well
Love the topics, the banter, and the vibes here! The hosts do a great job of navigating the very real, far reaching impacts of what is happening within Christianity in America right now while encouraging listeners to look to the fruit. The best part is, they do this in a fun and engaging way, bringing their full personalities, theological knowledge, and personal stories with the church to the conversation every time. I am thankful for this life preserver in a sea of ridiculousness and I appreciate that they boldly push back against Christian Nationalism. We need more voices like these to save the integrity of our faith.

The only show I pay for
This 5-star review is truly for Evan and Erin’s mental health. I love Faith Adjacent so much. You all have made me feel less alone as I wrestle with the Lord to reconstruct my faith into something more beautiful and pleasing to him. This is the only podcast that I pay for so I can hear more of Evan, Erin, and Jamie’s thoughts because I value them so much. Y’all are blessings. Thank you so much for all you do 💛

Outstanding - Fun, brave and honest Christianity.
I love this podcast and I love the changes that they’ve made. These are honest and true Christians who talk about Christian culture in the US. This is a space that offers an alternative to a lot of the toxic Christian culture in the US. But also they’re not a monolith and I often disagree with at least one of them. What I love is that they bring their fullest selves to it.

    Smart, Funny, and Faithfully Thought-Provoking
Faith Adjacent is everything I didn’t know I needed in a podcast. Knox, Jamie, and Erin have created something truly special—where faith, pop culture, and critical thinking collide in the best possible way. They tackle complex topics with authenticity, humor, and a refreshing honesty that makes you feel seen, challenged, and entertained all at once. Whether you’re deeply rooted in your faith or just faith-adjacent (pun intended), this podcast gives you permission to explore without pressure. Erin Moon’s insights as a Bible scholar add so much depth, and the dynamic between the hosts is pure magic. Highly recommend to anyone who loves pop culture and wants to engage with faith in a real, meaningful way.

    This podcast feels like home!
This is a podcast for people who still cling to a faith tradition but feel the need to say “I’m a Christian, but not like that.” Erin, Evan and Jamie offer perspectives about how to keep the faith and carry on as Christ followers in a culture that weaponizes that has weaponized Christianity in service of hoarding wealth and power. This show does cover political topics - may we remember that Jesus was political, he subverted the power of manmade kings and flipped the tables of exploiting money changers in the temple. The hosts are doing good and holy work and I think this is a space where you can still belong and be welcomed even if you don’t agree with every point.

    Love for my Boo!!!
I’m not a Christian. I’m just a good person and I adore this podcast. It makes me laugh. Makes me think. Evan and Erin (with Jamie and Knox) are thoughtful hilarious people and y’all have made my mother so happy because this is the closest to church I’ll probably ever get and she appreciates it!!!

    Authentic & Entertaining
I adore Faith Adjacent. I’ve been a longtime listener and Patreon supporter for years ever since the podcast first started as the Bible Binge. I appreciate how Erin, Evan, Jamie & Knox all offer their own unique, genuine and hilarious perspectives on faith, religion, scripture and community. Whenever I am feeling down about the state of the church, listening to these faithful humans sort through the tough topics with critical eyes and tender hearts gives me a dose of reassurance that kingdom work is ongoing and it’s all going to be okay. Thank you Faith Adjacent crew for being our guides and examples on the messy beautiful work of what it means to wrestle with and live out our faith ❤️

The World Is A Dumpster Fire
The world is a dumpster fire, but this podcast is not. In a world where it feels like my faith, my religion and my flag don’t align with those around me, this podcast is a breath of fresh air for when I’m questioning wha the heck is going on. It’s like listening to friends who get it when others around me in real life….don’t. While I do miss Knox being on regularly, I adore the trio of Evan, Erin and Jamie. (And Evan is the Instagram Uncle we all need.) Keep being the light we need right now.

    Feeling seen while laughing
Basically I listen because their voices are so amazing (thanks Patreon episode I almost said sexy but thought that was going too far.) In all honesty this podcast has been a breath of fresh air and I feel so seen. Thanks for a space a few times a week to laugh and identify with people so sweetly!
  • rchg09
The original Bible Binge was SO much better
The original Bible stories were a great insight. The current topics are very liberal. Which is concerning given this is supposed to be a Christian podcast.

    More & More Disappointing
I used to really enjoy Faith Adjacent & really (still) enjoy the hosts, but I do feel like this podcast is getting further and further away from its original roots (and maybe that’s intentional?). Quite frankly, I’m over the politics of it all (but you can’t say that these days because then you’re insensitive and bigoted). What is marketed as a “come one come all” podcast now feels very “come one come all, but only if you feel the way we do”. I’ll pick and choose what episodes I listen to because I do enjoy the topics, but lately I’m choosing to listen to less and less.

    Disappointed
Over time, Faith Adjacent has evolved, which is why the new name feels fitting. What started as an exploration of faith and spirituality has gradually shifted into a platform that focuses more on the flaws of the Bible and Christianity. While it's clear that the podcast seeks to encourage questioning and introspection, the tone sometimes crosses into the realm of mockery. It’s particularly ironic, and honestly a bit frustrating, how often they discuss the importance of loving others, yet the way they mock and belittle a group of people (particularly those who hold different beliefs). There’s a contradiction in the way they approach the concept of compassion. At times, it feels like their critique of Christianity and the Bible comes at the expense of genuinely understanding or respecting the beliefs of others. It’s tough to reconcile the “love everyone” rhetoric with the tone of mockery that often accompanies their commentary. I was listening to old episodes of That Sounds Fun by Annie F Downs and was so excited to come listen to this podcast but I was quickly let down with their tone. I love the Popcast.

    I miss the old format
Guys please leave the politics out! I use to love this podcast, it was one of my favorites (I’m even a patreon member) but I’m so tired of the politics talk. For a lot of people podcasts are an escape from the real world and coming here to hear preaching and complaining and repeating over and over your opinions regarding political issues is exhausting. Can’t remember the last time I actually finished an episode bc the second I hear something political I turn it off.

    A Breath of Fresh Air!
This podcast is a true gem! In a world filled with noise, it's refreshing to find a space where the focus is genuinely on loving God and loving others. What truly sets this podcast apart is its commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for listeners to explore their faith. Erin, Evan, Jamie, and Knox don't shy away from difficult questions, but rather encourage thoughtful discussion and the seeking of diverse perspectives. The hosts have a wonderful way of balancing deep spiritual insights with a lighthearted and engaging approach. It feels like having a conversation with trusted friends. Whether you're a lifelong believer or just beginning your spiritual journey, you'll find something valuable here.

    I miss the old pod
I miss the old Bible Binge format where hosts would go deep on a subject and bring greater insight to it. The current format with Erin and Evan isn’t as interesting. I’m cleaning up my old podcasts and listen ex to the post-election podcast and am shocked at the amount of struggle the hosts are having and are assuming others are having just because their candidate didn’t win. Move on, realize that we have another chance to make a difference in 4 short years. Its pathetic.
  • Carolina Candillo
    Should stick to pop culture
I believe that they mislead Christians and do more harm than good. When I have listened I feel worse after doing so. Listen if you want to hear people mock Christianity and purity culture but other than that I would stay away.

    Perspective that’s not precious
This is the perfect show for anyone courageous enough to think about what they believe and why. If you get that God has a sense of humor, you will love learning from and growing with Erin, Evan, Jamie & Knox. It’s a must listen.

Warm and thoughtful discussions on Faith
Erin, Jamie and Evan bring a fun blend of serious and snarky to all things Faith.

    Soothes Holiday Nerves
Just re-listened to the 2023 Christmas Confessions episode as a warm up before facing a long Thanksgiving Week and it was perfect (as all the episodes are), but Evan saying “Gentle rebuke on that” to the Elf’s name being Twinkie was just precisely the kind of interaction I needed to hear today. All the love for this show.
  • Park full of benches
    Adjacent is accurate.
You might as well go to a Unitarian church where every religion is the path to heaven, because this does not represent the Holy Bible. They mock Christians and pretend they know more. Anyone who thinks Disney is biblical isn’t reading the Bible. Christians are told not to be ‘of the world’ and you clearly are.

This Podcast is a Balm to My Weary Soul
Like others have said, listening to this group is like sitting in a room with your best friends chat. You admire them, root for them, look up to them, and even disagree with them at times. They challenge you and encourage you to sit in the unknown. The peace this podcast has brought to my faith journey has been so healing. I’ve felt religiously and politically adrift for years - untethered to any particular school of thought outside of loving Jesus and my neighbor. I’ve wrestled for years in the muck trying to find some sense. These beautiful souls have given me language I didn’t have before and nurtured a curiosity I thought was my ultimate character flaw. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve screamed YES in the car more times than I can count. They make me feel less alone on this floating rock. They’re worth the listen, I pinky promise.

    Bring back the old way!
I’ve listed to FA/BB for years and loved it, but man, this new format is just falling flat for me. The old deep dives into Bible stories or characters were amazing and thought provoking. Knox and Jamie can carry a show. Erin and Evan, while I love them both, are too much of the same person, so the show doesn’t drive like it used to. I use to wait for a new episode, but now I listen eventually just to see if it hits like the old ones.

    Real People, Real Christians
Erin, Jamie, Evan, and Knox are relatable, funny, and so much fun! They provided me a voice to describe some of the things that I’ve experienced growing in the church and for that I’m so thankful! I used to think that I was the only one that struggled with certain things, and was so grateful when I came across this through the Popcast. Thank you guys so much! 🤍

    Open Hearts and Open Minds
The one thing I know about my faith and beliefs is that I really don’t know near as much as I once thought I did. Jesus is central and always will be!!!! Evan, Jamie, Erin, and Knox take the listeners to places that are thought-provoking, fun, serious, and ridiculous. I always laugh and I always have something to think about, research, and pray over. Love this podcast! Love these 4 individuals (not in a creepy way). Evan is delightful, learned, caring, and I love it when Evan gets a bit nervous and starts sweating. Erin is a hoot while have a lot of knowledge. Jamie is open and many times off the rails which is a wild ride. Don’t read the reviews from those that only gave you 1 star. They are angry and misguided people albeit with faith. G-D doesn’t need our protection or righteous anger, HE wants a relationship with us which means we LOVE HIM with all that we are and we LOVE Others! Loving others doesn’t include the 1 star comments. Love you!!!!!

Oh my *5* Stars!! Clutch my pearls!
I LOVE this podcast! It is equal parts thought-provoking, open-handed soul-searching and laugh out loud alone in your car (or accidentally in a public coffee shop). Life went sideways for a few months so I now have the glorious opportunity to play catch up and binge 3 months of episodes. Just listened to “Praise hands of gratitude” and laughed literally out loud no less than 5 times. I also had a random friend reach out about faith and the LGBTQIA+ community in the church and was able to share that incredible episode. If you are digging deeper in your faith or sifting through “what you’ve always been told” or just curious about the Christian faith in general, Faith Adjacent is a welcome breath of fresh air!
  • chrischappy
    Disappointed
The original Bible Binge was a show that read, explored, and discussed scripture. Questions were raised and a thoughtful interpretation was offered. It was a show that led todays listeners to read the Bible. Over time the podcast has evolved, hence the new name Faith Adjacent, into a platform that tends to focus on the flaws of the Bible and Christianity. As a Christian the show’s new focus and tireless rants make me feel flawed, ignorant and hopeless. While I have felt this way for the past 6 - 8 months, I’ve continued to follow and listen to the show hoping that the flaws and rants would subside. I’m just disappointed in various ways.
  • Mrgreentie
    Woke Fake “Christians”
This podcast is 0% Christian and 100% Worship of Satan and self. Most recent episode has: A male host talking about lusting after another man’s body. Open mockery of abstinence in favor of rampant sexual sin. Open blasphemy regarding a woman’s place via the literal word of God. Basically saying Christians for following the Bible is misogynistic. Anti-Christian values. Essentially this is a progressive LGBTQ sin worship, of this world not of God, podcast hosted by 3 confused, unrepentant, wolves in sheep’s clothing.
  • DaniShootsFilm
Apparently the word of God doesn’t matter anymore
No, I don’t think hearing a guy talk about being attracted to another guy’s body belongs on a Christian podcast. No, I don’t think y’all should say purity culture will land you in therapy and sleeping around before marriage is totally fine. What happened happened that made y’all stray so much?? Feel like Satan took the wheel on this last episode.
  • C.Caton
Biblically Sound AND Funny? Yes please
Jamie, Knox, Evan, and Erin’s approach to Christianity is refreshingly humble, humorous, and historically accurate. The nuance and context they provide has deepened my faith and let me know I’m not alone on my faith walk.
