    Long-time half-listener, Recent super-fan
I’ve had this relentlessly delightful podcast in my lineup for years now, but never properly *listened* to it - I’d hear the rifts & tangents of the two charming hosts, but I knew a lot was being lost on me. My interest was rekindled with The Midnight Library crossover episodes, and suddenly came the “Haunting Houses” episode I FINALLY “got it”! Something about flipping the “hauntingness” from *in* the house to *by* the house just tickles me to no end. I laughed so much I had to keep rewinding to hear everything - Re-re-re-relistening to all their episodes now, I still hear new details I didn’t catch the first 90+ times I listened. Their American accents are HILARIOUS!! Especially James, who channels a gruff 1930s New York gangster for every American character, regardless of the character’s age or gender. Please please listen to this podcast and *really listen* when you’re listening, because there are SO MANY LEVELS of comedic gold here it’s staggering. Also I want to talk to more people irl about this, so please hurry up and catch up so we can discuss! 5 out of 5, across the board!!

Love all of it. Most of all because it fills a gap in my heritage knowledge :) I’m a first generation American - my Grandmother was from the Shambles in York. She was born in 1899 so I was very little when she passed away, but I’m sure she would have told me dragon stories (and given me tray bake recipes) if she’d had the chance. You two men are the English Grandmother I never got to know.

Love everything about this podcast - from the wonderful stories to the 5 point ratings they give each story and all the banter between Alasdair, James and their frequent guest. Great place to hear some wonderful, well read and researched old folktales and stories along with some very entertaining hosts.

Car Talk for myths and legends
Don’t expect learn too much or be lulled by the storytelling BUT do expect to soak up the vibes and fantastic rapport of these two and their extended network of comedian buddies, get drawn into a series of inside jokes and call backs and rant to your roommates about your own personal theories of what was really going on. Definitely start from the beginning (I’ve done three full listen throughs) Highly recommend if, like me, Back to the Future is your favorite movie, but you might enjoy it regardless!

    All hail the loremen.

    What’s going on!
This deserves a much wider audience. I’m working my way through the entire back catalogue and it’s great though I have to keep remembering to go through YouTube and watch all the field reports. More Sunil please. And the Sean Burke episode was amazing.

Sorry it took me so long to find this pod. It’s very funny and you learn some lore while you’re at it.

    Exceptional
My favourite podcast. James and Alasdair consistently offer fascinating obscure curiosities and local legends. Always good humour. Peerless. 5/5 in all categories.

    Good business
A fascinating podcast about English and UK regional differences, and then there’s also ghosts and witches and legends. It would be rad if you had Sindhu Vee back on!

So Many Tales of Factual Fiction!
As a collector of fairytales and folklore, I am eternally indebted to the Loremen for providing so much material! I have purchased, or will be purchasing, several new books to flesh out my shelves! I was also introduced to friend of the podcast, deputy lore-person Jenny Collier, who is delightful! She is my favorite guest! If you like stories, 80s/90s pop culture references, and Back To the Future, this podcast is for you!

This is my absolute favorite podcast! On my second listen-through and will have to start back at the beginning again after this because there's just nothing else that compares.

    Best pod around
This is an awesome podcast! During one episode I laughed so hard I choked on my own saliva. During another was thrown into a coughing fit due to being surprised by a particularly funny comment and always, between the choking and coughing, I end up crying and unable to catch my breath. I’m only on season 1 episode 7 and I hope to make it through all season, cheating death with each show. The regional folk stories they tell are fascinating as well. Brits have the best stories with the best storytellers!

    Interesting and amusing
Highly amusing and an easy listen you can dip in and out of while doing other things without loosing the overall gist. As an added bonus, if you do not have a vegan friend that calls everyone racist, misogynistic etc……. Allister has nailed this troupe and executes it flawlessly.

    Greatest podcast to ever exist
Had never been a podcast gal until the Loreboys. Now I’m across the pond binging all the episodes and forcing my coworkers and friends to listen with me. 😊 they love it too, it’s fine.

    Honest to Goodness Hilarious
I love this podcast. If you like folk tales, history, and just great humorous banter, give this a listen. Almost every episode has bust-out-laughing moments. Children of the 90s and British humor fans will probably get an extra kick out of it.

    Y’all are funny!
Y’all - an American contracted expression meaning ‘you all’. I enjoy the episodes and look forward to each one. Thanks for all the reasearch and hard work behind the scenes.

Love hearing stories about ghost while my two dads poke holes in all the stories with their accents, while making fun of other accents. which all sound the same to me. Definitely worth the listen!

From a friend of the show
Absolutely my favorite podcast. These two make me smile and laugh through out. I only wish there were more than one episode a week. When Alasdair was in Edinburgh and someone made a joke that he was working on a new podcast he had in the works I was a little sad, and I was even more hurt when I heard the advertisement after the episode for his new podcast fairy world and magic town. I FELT BETRAYED. Until I realized Neil Ion was going to be on it and then my heart leapt for joy. Keep the podcasts coming!

    Dulcet tones
The wind. Calm embrace. Tranquil pools beckon. A twig snaps sharply in the distance. The dish towel, still slightly warm and damp, rests in a heap on a cool stone countertop. Abandoned in haste. It will surely wrinkle.

These two fine gentlemen are the kings of hilarious British banter and funny story telling. They will be forever in my continuous rotation of listening.

    A delight!
The Loreboys are absolutely lovely and funny. This is my go to podcast for cheering up. The folklore is interesting and the hosts and deputies are hilarious. Occasionally I’ll have to look up a UK pop culture reference but it’s worth it. Also it’s great to hear them make fun of Americans because we totally deserve it. Thanks for always making me smile guys!

    It’s a full 5 out of 5
I came here for ABK’s captivating hair, and I stayed for the soul-soothing, delightful banter. The folklore’s a lot of fun too. It’s 5 out of 5 for Podcasts That Help Me Regulate My Nervous System in a Cruel and Painful World. ⭐️

    Something truly unique
They're the only brits I've ever listened to who don't default to a "cowboy/prospector" voice when doing an American accent, and that alone is worth 5 stars in my book.

    Thanks, Gef!
So, a few days ago I heard about Gef, the talking mongoose. I’m fascinated by the story and went looking for more information. Very happily, my search led me to Loremen, and I have been bingeing episode after episode. Thanks, Gef, for leading me to a great new podcast!

    My new favorite pod
I stumbled upon this podcast a few months ago and I’ve listened to the entire backlog- I just wish there was more! The hosts are hilarious. If you like folklore and laughing, this is definitely a podcast for you. I recommend starting from the beginning because there are little jokes that carry through from previous episodes. Thanks ABK and James for making such excellent content! Keep making fun of Americans ;)

A soothing balm of British quirks and wonderful lore
Very laid back, no shouting or continuous talking over each other. Great for someone who, like me, doesn’t like to listen to fast/angry/hyper speech. No swearing, and the podcast doesn’t go for gory descriptions or distressing crime scene descriptions. Alisdair and James tell each other a story about local myths and legends, then score the other’s story in 4 made-up categories. Very witty, and a fantastic insight into the weird world of British fables, myths, and legends. Dragons, wyrms, medieval lords, strange occurrences, and silly stories all make an appearance. Sometimes “Deputy Lorepersons” join the pair, and tell a story from their home town or country. From Skunk Apes in Florida to Jinmenken in Japan, we get a short, funny, and interesting story every time. I highly recommend this podcast, I've enjoyed every single episode I've listened to!
  • Jenneryy
    Funny, informative, and fantastic!
I can’t remember how I stumbled upon the podcast last year, but I quickly binged the entire thing and now I look forward to new episodes every week! I’m in the US and actually love the jokes they make about Americans, they’re funny and they poke fun at lots of different people. I love the way Alasdair and James play off each other, and their commentary on the stories really bring them to life. It really does feel like listening to your friends tell you a story (with British accents) and I’m a fan for life. From Mooie warnings to traybakes, I give Loremen a 5/5 in the category of “men providing lore in humorous but informative ways.”

    Yore Boys the Loremen
Whimsical, irreverent, stuffed thick with pop culture references, accents and dust, Loremen has quickly become one of my favorite shows. Co-host James Shakeshaft is a master of wearing denim, who’s witty insights and soothing vocal cadence lend a welcoming hand in a difficult world. Also present is Alastair Beckett King, the other co-host. For fans of anything to do with banter, folklore, people who say ‘friend of the show’ far too often, and British People, this podcast is surely not to be missed.
  • GenjiandProust
An Hilarious Collection of Ghosts and Not-Ghosts
The two hosts (and an occasional guest) wander through the deep weeds of UK folklore. They recount stories, crack wise, digress, recount different stories, riff on more jokes, occasionally delve into computer modeling to see if a ghost could be a reflection/projection, discuss events in their lives, tell more jokes, and then rate the main story according to arbitrary criteria. This is definitely a comedy podcast, but you might hear about some strange tale you want to follow up on if that’s your jam. I generally hate comedy podcasts, and this is one of the high points of my week. I’ve even laughed out loud and frightened my cat.

    Can’t get enough!
So clever and funny, smart and silly, I literally can’t stop listening. Been hooked on this podcast, playing it whenever I can both day and night, since February, last year, and there’s no stopping me. Excellent get away for me and it really can’t get any better. Thank you Lore Boys!!! I love all your content, the podcast, live shows, YouTube and now Discord. Also I totally agree with the Hillsboro, Oregon, review. So very well said.

My favorite, an American love story
As soon as they made a Patreon, I joined. The extra content is amazing and I feel like I owe them more than $12. James and ABK are hysterical. Every person that has a dry sense of humor and a quick wit I immediately recommend Loremen to them. I don’t even use iTunes, I just came on here to help boost them.

    Fantastically Silly
This podcast is perfect. I love the spooky (but not really) stories, I love the lively banter, I love the somewhat arbitrary scoring system. It’s a fantastically good, fantastically silly time.

    Delightful
A delightful blend of lore and conversation between friends. And it has never once put me to sleep.

    Gruntled American
Hello gents, love the podcast. I’m writing this in response to the disgruntled American who wrote you a rather snotty email recently. I needed you to know that most of us appreciate your making fun of America. This place is (as a whole) entirely mockable and I support you wholeheartedly. So from your good (American) friend Amy in New Jersey, I say Godspeed with your 1920’s gangster homages.
