I look forward to Fridays every week to listen! Being from the PNW myself and also working in LE, I deeply appreciate their style of storytelling. I just wish there were more episodes and less breaks in between seasons…

    Redacted.
S8. Hiatus? After one month? Huh. :-( Nevermind. Many. Many. Commercial breaks. S9. Reruns? Really? S14 Beyond Recognition. Meh. 3-Stars. I really didn’t like the detour from the STD format. I get lost in Serialized true crime after four episodes. Especially when a week goes by between episodes. I’m off listening to other things, I end up having to keep notes to track the players, dates, locations. Oy. Season 15 we’re now up to FIVE minutes worth of ADS at the halfway mark. Geez. Pay for ad-free you say? I have 247 shows on my podcast list. Even $1 a month per show is undoable. There’s 23 in active rotation any given time. Managing the paywalls on these would be mad.

    Thanks Trooper Dean
That was a tough one. Thanks for your service in both law enforcement and the Army National Guard. HOOAH

    I enjoy this podcast but…..
This is a good show. I like that they have cases that are not known. It seems like most podcasts all cover the same cases. My complaint is it seems this show has 10 episodes per season. Then they are off FOREVER! It’s kinda weird how long they go between seasons. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They can also get too graphic and the language is insulting. Yardley quit asking DUMB questions and interrupting. The more I listen the less I like. I’m probably going to unfollow.

Love hear the A Team . I wanna thank you guys for sharing so much of yourselves with us. It really is interesting hearing all of your perspectives. I don’t think I’m alone when I say I have a pretty hard-core man crush on Paul Holmes. He is the Ryan Reynolds of true crime.

Too many contributors, not enough episodes
Used to really like this but although Paul adds the big city knowledge the other blokes lack, there are too many people trying to comment, which I believe is why people think Paul talks too much. They need to branch out of their little area of the northwest and find some other cops to share their cases. They’re cops so they ought to be able to do some legwork. And can’t the sound editor do some to minimize Yeardley’s screech? I know she’s made millions on some show I never watched with that gawd awful voice but c’mon. And their season is so short I’ll probably unsubscribe soon. They did a good thing bringing in some cases from Scotland but their attempt is minimal it’s obviously just about easy money and not any attempt at quality. Hope Paul can find another partner and get back to a show more fitting for him.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for YEARS! I would agree with other listeners, the last 2 seasons or so have lessened my interest. Lacking the context that once was. Episodes are prolonged with repetitive dialogue, lots of add & short. I find myself wanting more, & not getting it.

    Can I vote 10 stars?
    INCREDIBLE!!

    Can’t love it any more
I listened to this podcast for a few years. The stories are compelling and well presented. But recently, especially current season, WAY too many ads. And no Patreon option to avoid them. So they’re way down on my list. I’ll pay $$ to avoid annoying ads.

    5 stars all around
*Small Town Dicks* is an absolute gem of a podcast. As someone who works in corrections practicing forensic psychiatry, I’ve found this show to be both insightful and incredibly moving. It offers an authentic perspective from detectives, showcasing the hard work and dedication it takes to bring individuals to justice. Listening to their stories has given me a deeper appreciation for the teams outside of my correction facility’s walls and their essential role in the justice system. Yeardley’s thoughtful and compassionate questions are a highlight, and Paul’s insight adds so much depth to each episode. There have been many moments where I’ve found myself crying alongside the detectives and Yeardley because the emotions are so raw and real. Detective Matt is hands down my favorite. His honesty, emotional growth, and authenticity shine in every episode he’s part of—he’s a true superhero. I also deeply respect how the detectives share their emotional journeys, which gives me an even greater appreciation for the incredibly difficult work they do. The cases are compelling, the storytelling is engaging, and the team does an outstanding job of handling these stories with care and respect for all involved. Whether you’re in the field or just love true crime, *Small Town Dicks* is a must-listen. PS: Yeardley, don’t let the critics deter you—your voice has become one of the most iconic in television history. It's clear that their negativity stems from focusing on trivialities rather than appreciating your valuable contributions. I’ve been a fan of the podcast for years and recognized your distinctive voice right away. Please continue asking insightful questions and sharing your perspective—it’s part of what makes the show so engaging and memorable.

    A steadfast go to!
Every episode is interesting, informative and passionate. Plus there is something about all the usual suspects’ voices that just makes me want to listen, like talking with good friends. No one is laying it on thick, they’re just honest and real. Please keep up the great work! From a long time listener.

Thoughtfully informative podcast firsthand from detectives
This podcast is something special, as it’s told from the detective’s that investigated the stories. They’re mindful of the victims and all parties throughout the discussion and provide such insight to our courageous officers that step in offer their lives for our communities. So grateful for your candor and respect all the detectives you have on your show.

    Update terminology
Stop using the term “have sex with” instead of calling it rape. I yelled that several times during the most recent episode. It’s RAPE.

    Season 15
Thank you for bringing us the first case of the season! I just have to ask, why does Detective Dan (voice) sound different?
  • criticalreeder7564
    Great podcast
I love these guys. They’re entertaining people who come up with interesting cases. My only complaint is about Paul Holes, who seems to feel like he has to be an Expert on Everything. And when a female detective makes an appearance, he starts mansplaining her. He does have some good insights, but he could stand to learn some humility.

    My Favorite Listen
I have been listening to this podcast from day one. Many podcast have gone to the way side because y’all continue to raise the bar of with authenticity and respect to each and every case y’all present. Your podcast is the only one that I have subscribe to the patron page. All the “ snackin’ snacks” that are there are so yummy and amazing sneak behind curtain. I am currently writing this review while visiting Scotland, having a pint at The World’s End pub. Thank you for bringing cases from all over the world. I truly enjoyed the the Beyond Recognition, it was a great hiatus listen. Looking forwards, as always, to the start of new season.

    Beyond Recognition
I’m a long time listener and die-hard fan of Small Town Dicks but this 6 part series was a brilliant idea. It is so well crafted and brilliantly written that every episode draws you in so you feel like you’re in the story. This is a must listen series.

    Beyond recognition
Love Small Town. Loved this series of shows till the very end of it. Thought it was unusually disappointing to almost tell how to find that poor victim in her family cemetery. Not exactly where she was but enough details it could be found. Long time passed. But still. Made me sad for her.
  • Plumchik2
    Beyond Recognition WOW
How do we get an entire podcast dedicated to these kinds of cases? This was an incredible telling of these murders. I so hope this will become a regular series around other cases. Bravo to the whole team for creating a masterpiece of a podcast!

    Simply excellent
Is it strange to say I’ve looked forward to these summer episodes each week. I’ve been a long time fan of Small Town Dicks for the moving stories told by the “Usual Suspects” and company. They provide excellent behind the scenes views into law enforcement with heart and soul and respect to those concerned with the investigation. The summer series has been excellent story telling, excellent writing, excellent forensics. I can’t say enough about how good this show is! Thank you for making it.
  • Annie DW
    Well done …….
I’ve been listening to “Small Town Dicks” from its inception and I love it. This additional summer bit - “Beyond Recognition” is superb. Really good work that keeps one returning. Thank you!

    Where have I been?
I just stumbled upon this podcast about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been binging it while I work. I love the format and storytelling. Just another reminder that their are some sick, sick people out there.

    One of my favorite podcasts!
I absolutely love listening to this podcast when I am on long drives. There are episodes that can be shocking, extremely informative, horrifying, funny, incredibly sad, all in one episode. They will give the listeners a heads up before an episode if it is going to be harder on certain listeners, which I really appreciate. As a nanny, the episodes about children hit my heart a little harder than others. The hosts are wonderful and they all bring such interesting point of views to the conversation. Please keep up the amazing work.

Never even flinched listening to horrific details of the dismemberment of 2 women …. Until the fly sounds! 😂 As I listened with AirPods in my ear - that buzzing was just too much!

    Quality podcasting
Yardley is a great moderator, she has an inquisitive mind and asks all the right questions of the regular cast of characters and guests. Please keep telling your stories, giving us all insight and advice!
  • USA Scot crime buff
Content good - distracted by fake Scottish accents
It’s clear you care about content and production so why or why do you have voice actors that can’t do a proper Scottish accent
  • Gouda42
Beyond recognition is the end for me
I’ve liked the show less and less over the years but that new series finally pushed me off the edge. It’s just so overly repetitive and the dramatizations are obnoxious. I’ve already had issues with some of the stories on the podcast but this was just the worst.
  • amymarieb
    Words matter
Like the show, but caution hosts to be more careful with their words. ‘Some judges more liberal than others and believe in people being able to do better…’. Liberals DO NOT believe this about pedofiles
  • TooIllOrEase
    More cop suckup toss material
Listen to episode 'Is This Thing On', where a supposedly withdrawing non-'illicit' addict records his life's final unraveling. He's made object for podcast sport/'humor' and odious alignment — and, almost unbelievably, sympathy — with cop righteous hair-trigger deployment. Go yourself and listen to the cop's laborious retelling of the final showdown, wherein the listener's assured of the careful assessment and unfortunate necessary eventual killing of the 'suspect'. Then listen to the incident audio. Ha! Cop worshipers are a disease.

    Big Time Kudos
I'm so glad I arrived late to this party, because now I have seasons and seasons to binge! The podcast is real storytelling at its best - true stories told in an intimate, personal way that make you feel you're one of the gang, sitting there listening in person. The chemistry is perfection, which adds greatly to this feeling. Yeardley does a terrific job of deftly ensuring in a subtle way, that technical terms, abbreviations and such are explained for the uniniated. The wide variety of guests are relaxed, and comfortable as they tell their (often painful) stories, and humor ripples through, but is never inappropriate, and always a welcome relief. A natural reaction amongst friends. I can't say how much I enjoy listening to Small Town Dicks!
