Just two guys on a call
This show is an entrepreneurial rallying cry. I have learned so much from listening to this show. Thank you both for doing this so dependably. And thank you for backdating to episode 1 on this app. Let the binge begin!

Running your machine with heightened senses
I believe its good, especially when you make a part for the 1st time to run your machine a little bit scared. I don’t mean be scared of your machine or be scared of breaking tools, but rather have massive respect for your machine and what kind of damage it is capable of doing from just 1 little mistake. There are so many details and variables you have to be on top of before you make your 1st chip it’s easy to forget 1 small step. By running your machine scared you naturally heighten your senses and can stay super focused and locked in. Don’t ever become over confident, always be aware that something can happen at any moment and have quick reflexes to identify the problem and stop the machine when necessary. In 30 years of running cnc’s I’ve never had a serious crash or accident. Remember, a cnc can’t think, it does EXACTLY what you tell it to do.

    PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS…
I’ll start off by saying this. I love watching both of y’all on YouTube and I love listening to your podcast. I am subscribed to every social media both of you have. I have been following for over 2 1/2 years. I respect what you do, and I appreciate the effort you both put into the trade, and the advancement and learning of the trade. With this being said, I also want to say one other thing…. You spend alot of time talking about the Kern, and other machines you have, and the way you handle business, etc… I am a new machinist. Been operating / setting up : programming for 3 years. I can relate to a lot of what you speak about, but there is MUCH MORE that is said, that I can not relate to because of my experience and position. I find myself wishing that you talked more to the younger guys, and talked about things beneficial to us. Hearing about speeds and feeds, and dealing with co workers, and the right time to go into business for yourself, and the best way to LEARN MASTERCAM. Things like this.. this is the info I’m always searching deeply for. Thank you. I love y’all, and God Bless! This is not criticism. Simply my thought process. Thanks guys.

Couldn’t have done it without you!
I just got my first cnc machine (a state of the art in 1997 Fadal) AND got my first paying machining job. John and John have been the single most valuable resource I’ve found for preparing to and starting a manufacturing company. They are competent but humble, knowledgeable but strive to learn more, honest about struggles but always upbeat. You could not ask for better mentors. If you own any type of business or run any type of machine you will benefit from the BoM!

    Great Show
Just listened to your podcast for the first time. Great show. I think shooting some videos on making more money and/or profits is a great idea. Looking forward to listening to more from your show. If you have the time and are interested, check out The Right Direction Podcast from Compass Precision. I host. Thanks!

    Some BOM dudes here
I’ve been listening to Grimsmo and Saunders since the they started this podcast and it’s been a great way to spend my Friday morning (and sometimes afternoon) drive to (or from) the shop. They keep it real and have been a great inspiration in my own work. Keep up the great show guys!

    Favorite Podcast
This is hands down my favorite podcast. These guys are genuine and down to earth, hard workers, and movitational. A lot of their topics I can relate to, and some I can't. Regardless, I'm always learning from them. And I REALLY appreciate that it feels more like a personal conversation than almost every other podcast I have (and do) listen to. It makes everything seem more personal and real, as opposed to someone putting on a show. Highly recommended.

    Love the conversations
Love the conversations you two have discussing business, personal growth, frustrations, and resolutions. I listen while working my manual Logan lathe making chips. Thanks for sharing some insights to your lives and business growth.

    Idea regarding aluminum quenching
Hi, Had a potential idea that may or may not work. Could u machine the blade solid out of the bottom aluminum quench plate and a o ring grove around perimeter. Have a thicker possibly slightly taller o ring that would flatten/seal even with thickness variations (+,- tolerances). Then use the Venturi vacuum to pull the plates together therefore keeping blade flat? A warp at that point beyond ability of o rings seal would be apparent because u would lose the seal. Maybe stupid? Maybe not?

    Good Information for any Business
I’m not in the business of machining but running a personal business of my own as well as a full time and a half job there is some really helpful discussions once you take out all the LEAN talk.

Look forward to this every week!
I started listening to this when I started machining classes to kickstart my attempt at Career 3.0, figuring some insight into the week-to-week would be useful going forward. I look forward to new episodes every week and feel like I owe both of these guys a cup of coffee and a heartfelt thanks for sharing so much of their businesses. Grimsmo—you need to turn your new lines into EDC kits! Pen, flashlight, knife combos that share style elements would be awesome.

Weekly Meeting for the Self Employmed
I love how the guys debrief with each other how the week went. Makes me want to make sure I have at least as good or better report! Not having a Boss can be a little challenge to stay on track. This podcast helps me tremendously hearing similar minded people.

    Very informal
The Johns are doing a great job with this podcast. Listening to them is like having a conversation with a co-worker in the Shop. Very knowledgeable

    Nothing but the practical.
Ok, I'm not even a machinist. I'm a furniture maker who uses a CNC in my work, but there is a lot of great insight in BOM into what it takes to scale from a garage guy into a job shop or product-centric shop. I have been watching J&J since the early days and their journeys have been so inspiring to me as maker and entrepreneur. Thanks guys! - Cedrick, Bearcrafted IG: @bearcrafted

    Entrepreneurship & Machining
John Saunders & John Grimsmo jump between the incredible detail of machining and what they have learned from running their businesses. I have found it thought provoking and motivating for me to work on my own projects and business ideas. Keep up the great work guys!

    Amazeballs!!!
Amazeballs doesn't even come close to discribing this podcast! I have followed the Johns for years without knowing they knew eachother or who they really were in the early years. I have been revisiting Grimsmo's videos on anodizing titanium and aluminum handles for Emerson(I am fortunate to own one, Grimsmo knife someday!) so I can relearn the process for my titanium rings. NYC CNC has helped me so sooo much with learning the sofware side of things first with solidworks and now with Fusion 360! Saunders gave me the CNC itch with his Tormach machine back in the day! I'm fortunate enough to have a '95 Mori Seiki SL25Y in my home shop now!!! The John's provide so much value and motivation in this podcast! I'm always looking forward to the next podcast to learn something new and grow as a business owner and machinist. Thank you BOTH!!! Nathan Burge, N8 Machine

    Iterative Inspiration
I've been following both of these guys for about five to six years now throughout my transition from machinist to mechanical engineer, and it's great to see how much they've grown both as shop owners and machinists over the years. I'm happy to say that through the growth that they've shared with the internet, I've been able to pick up on tidbits here and there, and learn along with them, thanks to their willingness to share their experiences with the public. Their latest push toward lean manufacturing, and process development has, in my opinion, been the most exciting and inspirational learning experience that they've allowed their followers to be apart of to date. This podcast will surely be my primary source of ideas for my next transition from mechanical engineer to small shop owner. Keep up the great work, guys.

    Solid Gold!
John & John share the pleasures and stresses of running small but growing machining/manufacturing businesses. Nuggets of inspiration for hobbyists, designers, engineers & machinists of any experience level. I listen to this to/from work every week and I'm hoping it moves to a daily schedule. Keep up the amazing work guys.

    Concise and info dense!
As a weathered and worn job shop machinist who can't even remember the parts I made last week, this podcast does a great job reminding me of the passion I had when I first started the trade. The Johns talk about their trials and triumphs with a rare transparency. Nick Norris

    Design and Manufacturing Inspiration
John and John are some of the most inspiring people when it comes down to design and machining. Seeing all their Youtube videos from when Saunders was CNC machining in a tiny apartment to when Grimsmo was making his own CNC machines from manual Grizzly machines is literally amazing. To listen and to see how far they have come keeps pushing me to never give up on my machining and manufacturing dreams.

    Great stuff every week
John and John what more could you want! These guys are down to earth and as real as it gets. They share the good and the bad, can be super helpful for machinist trying to run their own business knowing that other people struggle. Helps keep your head up in your own endeavors.

    Motivating and insightful
Both Johns share an innate enthusiasm for machining and entrepreneurship that is infectious. This podcast offers a straightforward, open look into the evolution of their businesses, their work, and their lives. Their lack of ego is refreshing, and the information they share is very useful. This podcast is well worth a listen - you'll be hooked for sure!

    By Machinists for Machinists
Great podcast that covers running a machine shop. Very interesting to hear how they integrate technology into manufacturing, and the business side of it. Great for anyone interested in machining and entrepreneurship. Great tips for the business side of manufacturing!

    Fantastic resource
As a viewer of the hosts' videos, it is awesome to "eavesdrop" on their brainstorming/rant/rave conversations. As a shop owner and machinist, it's been good to hear I am not alone in my frustrations, aspirations and concerns. This is a great "inside baseball" look at small business and shop life. Guys, I really appreciate the content you are putting out. I listened to all the episodes in the span of two days. Keep them coming! My only complaint is that I can hear one of you guys (cough cough Saunders) breathe. Otherwise, I really enjoy the raw feel of the show and how natural your conversations sound. I hope you continue this Podcast for a long time. Best of luck!

    Great Job Guys!!
Keep up the good work guys, its great listening to you, wish we were closer!! One bit of constructive critisizm, you should change the descriptions of the episodes as you go so people can go back and find one they want to reference, or know which they've listened to or not. Anyway, AWESOME podcast and have a loyasl listner in me! -Dave at New Frontier Armory

    Thank you!
Both of you are the reason I have a Tormach in my garage and have started up a second business. To now be able to learn more from your experiences and be motivated my your passion is awesome. So thank you for taking the time to make these great podcast.

    Spot on and candid
It's an absolute pleasure to hear two very successful entrepreneurial machinists discuss the very same issues that face most smaller machine shops pursuing efficiency and success. Unlike megacorp manufacturers that have a built in corporate support structure, smaller enterprises have to figure things out without the benefit of in-house specialists. It's enjoyable and informative to hear these two good men hash things out publicly.
  • Fifufidithuban
    Perfect for aspiring manufacturers
First off, these guys both have super great youtube channels. I've been following them for years, learning and being inspired by what they create and share. As a small manufacturer myself, I'm always on the lookout for content in the entrepreneurship/maker/fabricator realm. So happy these guys are willing to share their time and knowledge with the community :)

John Grimsmo and John Saunders in a podcast! What a wonderful idea. I have been following both of you for years on Youtube. This is a great addition to your great videos. I love the fact that you are talking about the entrepreneurial mindset and how you stay focused to get things done. Bill
