American Patriot in ATXD@mn good, and I rarely reviewFrom the opening “why” story from the narrator, to the opening music, to the passionate, raw and moving recounting of the stories, this is a brilliant gem among sand in today’s podcast glut. I would pay for another season if there’s ever a patreon or other way to contribute! Kudos to host and team🥳

consciousdaveGreat series for learning about black cowboysI like that the host helped retell the stories of these men with his father and others close to them. Made them feel much more personable. Learned a lot from this series and glad to see this topic getting more attention!

lmsampson78I wish I could give this more starsThank you Zaron for sharing your pops and these stories with us. You taught me so much that I was never taught before and I’ve been sharing as much as I can. So many wait what?!? moments for me while listening. I screamed aloud at the origin of Sheriff Woody’s name! Recommend that anyone give this a listen because it’s super interesting and a great way to get back some history you were never taught.

JMHoward4010Simply amazing and very well doneI am floored by this podcast and the level of detail being shared. I’m addition the special effects and the music is fire! I have learned so much about the Black cowboys and the history of the west and south. It’s also heartwarming to hear the host and his dad engaging on this subject matter. Nothing better than building one’s knowledge bank and shining a bright light on this hidden and nearly erased history.

A_GalvTrue stories.A true history told by a True Storyteller. Thank you for you and your father’s time.

EricaSyionBeautifulThis is the type of content I didn’t even know I needed but knew I wanted. Absolutely love the narrator and I think his dad. The actors who re-enacted the characters were awesome. This has put me on to so many new ppl to research. Great job!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

maatkare67Yee-Haw! What a thrilling account of the days of yesteryear!I’m not an expert on the west, but this podcast is a thrilling window to a history that just wasn’t told as much as the lily-white version. While I knew of many of these personalities, their stories are told in a wonderful way here. The episode on Bill Picket had me frantically fast forwarding through the commercials to hear the end of his duel with Little Bean, the murderous bull. I heartily recommend this series.

A SuperPlusGreat showLearn about the history you were never taught. I love how Zaron has his dad on the show to talk about the historical figures, being a dad, being a kid, and their shared memories. I hope there will be a follow up season! I miss this show!
-
BlarsblatGreat StorytellingI am hooked, these stories are fascinating. The podcast brings these historical people alive in such a rich way. Not to mention the interplay between the host and his dad is so good. Keep going Zaron, we want a season 2!
-
partimemeatsmithThe BestBest podcast I’ve listened to in years. Learned way more than I set out to. Grew up a white cowboy watching westerns and knew none of the Americans featured here. Well researched, wide range, and expertly presented.

MoonyJohnFascinating!I can't even begin to say how much I'm enjoying this podcast. I just discovered it so I'm in binge mode right now. Zaron's style is absolutely perfect. And don't even get me started on his dad. Dad needs a podcast of his own! Everyone needs to hear these stories. These are real people--not what we've seen portrayed by John Wayne or Clint Eastwood--that, not only faced the usual hardships of the west, but also the hardship of racism. Thank you Zaron (and your dad), you're doing a great job!
-
Winged Elf GirlLeft out of the history booksIt’s fascinating to hear about the specific history of black people in the old west, and I LOVE the format of part conversation/interview, and part audio drama. It’s also a huge implication of pop culture depictions of history for most of the 20th century - why, then, are all the movies, comics and pulps about white cowboys and outlaws? This podcast is helping me to balance history with what I already know, and I love it.

mmmsophisticatedmamaBlack power!Real men (and a woman) that fought to prove they are the best in a world that sidelined them. True heroes and legends.

SEODRoGreat info and entertainingA really interesting topic that doesn’t get enough attention. The episodes are fast paced and entertaining. I really appreciate the personal touch the host brings, as you can tell these stories mean a lot to him and his family. I’ve listened to most episodes more than once.

AthenasGirl4HireWell PresentedEnjoyable listening, incredibly researched, informative story-telling, and something I can share with my mid-western mother. It's indescribable how her eyes light up when listening to this makes me feel.
-
imwaytoobusyLove Zaron & Pop & these stories! This is a well made, fascinating podcast. It’s so interesting to hear about these brave men and their stories. Highly recommend it! 🤠

BobbyHTFDFantastic podcastI have thoroughly enjoyed this podcast so far. It is phenomenal. The production quality is superb and the storytelling is just captivating. You can tell that host Zaron Burnett II has done a lot of research and is trying to tell you the truth about these cowboys. The interaction between him and his father really adds a nice touch. They clearly enjoy discussing this and getting word out about these mesmerizing figures who have been lost to history.
-
702CoachHistory they kept from us!!!This show is everything I expected it be! The author and his father clearly enjoy each other and it shows. I want to thank them for sharing their lives and their research. Please keep up the great work!
-
traytreGreat showReally great show. As a boy growing up in Oklahoma City my mother made sure I knew these stories. I rode horses, showed and rodeoed. As the only black kid (more often than not) these stories gave me the pride and determination to succeed. Zarons ability to transform these stories is amazing and helps me relay them to my sons. Very important and I am grateful for this podcast!!!
-
BlackirishbillI love it!Everything about this podcast is great. The music, the narration and commentary all come together so well. The only bad thing about it is having to wait for the next episode!
-

-
Freddy_Frag_NutzThank you for thisI’ve never felt so sad and so happy at the same time history needs to be told no matter the color of the person. I downloaded this for Saturday pod cleanse when I don’t listen to the news. I’m so happy I did . WOODY IS NAMED AFTER WOODY STODE OMG. Tears in my eyes bc that was my favorite movie as a child. Thank you from one lost black man who has tried to find reasons to be proud of the skin I’m in.

Grateful Grad!So good!James Beckwourth

quilladyJust what we needed!Really enjoy this podcast. I enjoy western stories and I am so glad to hear about the black experience. You and your father are so great together! Just a little suggestion though. The rap music is so distracting. I know you’re trying to do a Django kind of a thing. But it is really not working. Otherwise, everything is just great! Looking forward to next episode.

julzkc19000Eagerly anticipatedIt’s almost like you can feel the love and respect between our narrator and his father. I look forward to these episodes more than any other show. I’m learning about my country, black Cowboys and respect. I can’t wait to share these with my son when he’s a (just a tiny) bit older.

frestepiOne of the best podcasts running right nowThis podcast is essential. I never really grew up with cowboy lore in my life, and hardly knew about the legacy of black cowboys. But I heard a promo for Black Cowboys on another podcast and was immediately intrigued by the quality and interesting concept. Zaron’s narration and story telling abilities are rock solid. Every single story is exciting. I often find myself on the edge of my seat fully entrenched in what’s happening, and that’s rare for podcasts - I usually listen to them as background noise. But not Black Cowboys. This show is a full course meal on its own. The production value is beyond incredible as well. From the intro theme song, which is so so good through to the sound effects, background tracks, and audio filters over the guest narrators - every little detail puts the listener deeper into the stories. And this is all even before getting to the actual meat of the show - the history and stories of real black cowboys. Some of the history is better known, but Zaron gets into some of the more granular and untold stories of historic figures of the American West that our society was all too eager to ignore. And it’s complimented by his and his father’s own perspectives which are fun to listen to and amazingly valuable insights. I love this show, and I can’t wait to hear more. And if it ever concludes, I can’t wait to go back through and listen again, and eventually to show my kids too so they can learn a part of our history that they probably won’t be taught in school. Thanks guys.

-
ohthatsbrianAbsolutely fascinating!i’m enthralled with history, especially when it’s history that wasn’t even touched when I was in school. I was never taught about Black cowboys. I was fascinated by the Wild West when I was a kid. So of course I knew about Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok,
-
bigpoppa1953OutstandingThis is an amazing podcast. I grew up in rural Oklahoma with black cowboys and farmers. I’m very familiar with many of the locations mentioned in many episodes. But I’ve also learned a lot that I didn’t know. Brings back great childhood memories. I look forward to the new episodes each week. Well done young brother. Also, I enjoy your fathers contribution to the pod. Thanks for bringing this rich history to life. Respect.

jenncraintrebonOutstanding!A must-listen for anyone interested in American history.
-
🦻budSo, so good!!What a great podcast! So well written, voiced, produced from open to close. Zaron Burnett’s Dad as co-host adds interesting insight and perspective. I really appreciate these entertaining and engaging episodes, which backfill my sorely inadequate knowledge and understanding of (a very siloed version of) history. I look forward to each episode and hope to hear more from Zaron Burnett in podcasts.
-
BooyadeeGreat podcast! Very original ! Every episode gets better!I love to hear great stories about remarkable and interesting people told in a historically accurate way. Thank you very much! To the reviewer who said this was a hateful podcast- what you said sounds exactly like what one of my old redneck coworkers would say.
-
KF2ndHistory to Know!Intriguing and so enjoyable to listen to-the pace, the narrator!
