Spesh713One of my favorite podcastsThe plot is intense and fast-paced and fascinating (I adore all of the puzzles and factoids), the actors are amazing (Anya Chalotra is incomparable), the sound design and audio effects are top-notch, and put together it offers the complete package. If you love a murder/mystery/thriller/action/scifi — this is the pod for you.

Everything about 'The Cipher' falls perfectly into my favorite kind of adventure—just the right amount of mystery, action, humor and drama all wonderfully wrapped up with a stellar VO cast and a high production value. But whoever made the decision to use one of THE MOST PAINFUL FREQUENCIES as a plot device is just unthinkingly cruel to any listeners with sensitive ears. There are so many moments of vital information with that f***king high pitched noise in the background, turning the volume down just creates gaps in story. I made it through to the last episode, determined to finish, but had to give up 10 minutes in because it goes on for a FULL. MINUTE. Perhaps there’s a transcript online, but at this point I don’t even know if I have the heart to finish. My ears are still ringing with that evil, evil noise and I want to rip them out. Y’all are wrong for this.

The character are great & you get very invested but my biggest issue is that the main character ALWAYS sounds out of breath and once you notice it, you can’t un-notice it (think of Kristin Stewart portraying Bella Swan).

Wootsy1Just ok...TREMENDOUS, immersive sound design and editing... I really liked how interesting bits of trivia were cleverly interwoven with the plot to give it an air of authenticity. The storyline however was mediocre. It started out so intriguing but seemed to fizzle out at the end.

The actors are fantastic as they give you a real world immersion through their voices. The cliff hangers leave you wanting more and more as well as overall great storyline from the creator. CdenomieClicheGood sound, however too description of the world around them. Feels like an audiobook with sound. Podcasts have the opportunity to be something different and unique compared to movies. This podcast might as well be a movie. Second star is for sound quality only.
