This wonderful podcast is a way to be reminded of old favorites, be introduced to new books, and learn theology along the way. It’s so great to hear these men’s voices and have an unguarded glimpse of their personalities as they discuss their favorite books.

A fantastic resource for expanding yo ur library, as well as an entertaining listen with warm and thoughtful conversation between biblically minded, faithful, respected, scholars.

Today was the first day I listened to this podcast, and it did not disappoint. Getting greater insight to both the interviewee, and the author of the book being discussed was a delight, and I will certainly make this a regular listen.

This is an outstanding podcast that moves briskly (I often wish it would last much longer) but is so insightful. Several volumes in my personal library are a result of these interviews with such learned men. Keep them coming, Dr. Nichols.

As a former professor and current pastor, I have found this podcast to be tremendously valuable. It enlightens and encourages in a powerful way.

I’ve enjoyed the first three seasons of Open Book with Stephen Nichols and am looking forward to this one. I love hearing the guests’ stories and have added a couple more books to my already bulky TBR pile!

I was introduced to Open Book through an email from Ligonier. First I listened to the last 3 seasons and today..season 4 began . I am so thankful to have it on my podcasts weekly. It is a wonderful series ..I am blessed by it.

I’ve been a listener to Steven’s first two seasons. Dr RCSproul and Dr John MacArthur. With that being said, when each of these men recommend a book to read I immediately search and buy said book. With great happiness I read these books and when I learned about this podcast I immediately went to the first episode in the first season. Love Steven Nichols and Ligonier Ministries and my congratulations to a wonderful podcast rich in history, theology, faith, laughter and God.

As a layman with a regular job, who has come to dearly love biblically sound teaching, this podcast gives me an even greater appreciation for how deeply Dr. Sproul and Dr. MacArthur have delved into the faith. As they minister from the pulpit, they are sharing from decades of prayer, diligent study, and hours of wrestling with the great writers whom God has called for His great purpose. Thank you Dr. Nichols for serving your listeners well with this wonderful podcast.

Being a lover of books myself, I was drawn to this podcast after hearing of it through Ligonier Ministries. Steve Nichols does a great job through his interviews introducing us to great men of God who share their wisdom concerning books that have been meaningful to them. This helps me get ideas on titles to consider adding to my library if I don’t already have them. Keep up the good work.

One of the best things that my mentors and heroes have done for me is to recommend quality books over and over for me to read, especially books that helped shape them into the people I admire and respect. Dr Nichols has taken that same idea, but brought us into the studies of some of the most influential Christian leaders of our time, to hear them talk with passion about the books that have shaped them.

This is easily my favorite podcast.

Wow, Dr. J-Mac delivers as usual. I wish the season lasted longer, more episodes would be great. A treasure of a podcast.

Stephen Nichols’ Five Minutes in Church History is outstanding. And Open Book is equal with that treasure. What better way to spend ten minutes than listening to brilliant theologians discuss the impact books have had on their lives and ministry.

Two interviews were outstanding and helpful. I’m now reading Indwelling Sin.

This well done little podcast speaks with well know people about the role of books in their life and work. Fun and helpful to listen in. Thanks.

Open book has been very inspirational to my spiritual life. To hear how God has used the writings of followers of Christ to encourage and spur on the faith of the current generation!

Academics can be fun and curious, yet not always touching the heart. Steve helps that not happen. Eager for more.

I just binged the entire first season and I am hooked! I also added quite a few “need to read”s to my list! I am very much looking forward to subsequent seasons. Would love to hear from Sinclair Ferguson, Ian Hamilton, and Alistair Begg (coincidentally all Scottish) as well as Robert Godfrey, Derrick Thomas, and Stephen Nichols. Would be delighted to see a photo of each man’s study, too!

My husband received Open Door, season 1 as an mp3 disk in the mail today. He gave it to me, my literary eyes lit up when I saw the books being covered, so I just listened to the first message (about 10 minutes long). It was so interesting, I immediately subscribed on iTunes, and will be eagerly looking to listen to all the messages made available to us through Open Book.

What could be better than R.C.’s description of his life and books he owns? This series was both heartwarming and educational. What a life he led!!! And the relationship Dr Nichols had with R. C. was obviously one of deep respect and love. Thank you, Dr. Nichols!!! Looking forward to the new season and wondering whose library you will visit!!

What a great concept and legacy of the inner thoughts of Dr. Sproul they you were able to let us listen into. To hear y’alls discussions on books, theology, and application in such a warm setting was inviting and educational. I love these podcasts! Stephen Nichols does a great job with the interviews and giving an overview of Dr. Sproul’s favorite books. With his passing, and so many people missing him, this is a great way to keep his memory alive.

I love how this quick 10-minute podcast exposes me to so much great literature. Hearing intelligent, godly men share how these books have shaped their thinking and stimulated them to love God more is inspiring. I highly recommend this podcast.

I enjoyed the first one so much I listened to all of them that same day. RC’s warmth, depth, and scholarship all color this behind the scenes look at real life Biblical theology.

I listened to many podcasts throughout the week and this is become my all-time favorite — I look forward to new additions each week. Especially to hear RC’s voice giving comments about books from his library — makes me realize how much I miss him! I hope this continues with other known theologians and speakers. It is a real treat every week to listen to. Unfortunately my list of must read books is already beyond the years I have left and this is only helping it to get bigger.

Truly a remarkable way to honor R.C. Sproul and share his resources with everyone.

Terrific look at different books to engage our minds

RC passed away a little over 4 months ago as i write this review. i’ve always wished him to be a part of this dialog type format.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three episodes of this podcast. I love hearing how books have shaped Dr. Sproul and developed his own theology. This podcast offers a great blend of theology, church history, and personal notes from the life of Dr. Sproul.

I love the idea of this podcast. The first episode with Dr. Sproul was simply wonderful. Can't wait for more!

Listening to Dr Sproul, I’m always grateful for new words from him, especially after his passing. Also though, I have enjoyed watching Dr Sproul’s nurturing of Stephen Nichols in Ligonier. Stephen, you are a well learned man, graced by God, and I enjoy the teaching you bring to Ligonier, as well as your passion for the Lord. Thank you!

It’s true that books help to formulate who we are. And it is so great to hear the stories of great men and women of faith and their encounters with the books that helped to form. Dr. Nichols is a great interviewer, and he brings us a treasure trove in this podcast!
