    New Listener
I just stumbled upon this podcast recently, it’s kind of like listening to old friends tell me stories and that’s really nice.

How did John Roderick get so old
Listening to Mr Roderick is like sitting and listening to my Dad. I’m in my mid 60s and this guy seems old. I have very much enjoyed his musical work over the years that being the reason I searched out his podcasts. Listening to his conversations has been a treat.

    So relieved
So happy to see a new episode pop up. Really appreciate John’s sharing his feelings on the loss of Friendly Fire and his gaining the direct support of those of us who support him and appreciate his story telling and POV.

John’s going to be all right
I love this podcast which rambles from story to story but always finds a meaningful nugget of truth. I gotta join the patreon! So glad Dan dropping John was fake news! Love you both!

    Dan?
Please tell me you haven’t thrown John to the wolves? Make a decision or make and announcement.

    Ignore the trolls
John used to battle fascists by parodying their own language. Then he parodies himself and all the cancel morons pounce. Ignore the trolls and listen

    Great source of bubbling wisdom
So many stories have stuck with me and changed me forever.

    John? 10. Dan? 3
Another excellent job by John across the podcasting medium. Another phone in by Dan. Doesn’t live up to the promise of “America’s top two podcasting personalities.” In any case, it seems the show has been silently canceled by Dan, instead of having the courage to say he took on Road Work because John a podcasting “get,” but as soon as he became a business liability, he ended up where all 5by5-ers go eventually: on to better things or the trash.

    Unsubscribed from bean dad
I have listened to several of your podcasts over the past few years. I’ve shrugged off minor annoyances for a while but today’s bean dad Twitter fiasco was the last straw. It brought to light some seriously problematic past tweets including inappropriate homophobic and anti-Semitic slurs. Whatever the context, those were way out of line. And then you want to withhold food from your kid because it more important that you feel important than it is for her to eat. And you don’t see a problem with any of this? Oh come on.
  • ShirleyJackson5
    John is racist #beandad
John is super racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic on Twitter. Can we be done with racists already? Look up #beandad to see how truly vile and disgusting he is.

John Roderick is one of the most prolific child abusers of all time!
Don’t support John Roderick. Actively fight against people like John Roderick.

    Great Program
John Roderick is one of the great raconteurs of our time!

Road Work is great (especially episode 199!)
I really enjoy this podcast. In episode 199 - the most recent one as I write this - John Roderick holds forth with an original and astonishingly impromptu summary of politics in America, and what’s led us to our current state. It provided a perspective I hadn’t previously encountered (except perhaps in The Economist or George Friedman’s columns on the Geopolitical Futures website). It’s especially valuable as we enter what promises to be a hellish four+ months in America. Bravo!

Dan? Dan? DAN IS THERE A PROBLEM?
Dan? Is there a problem? Why is it that all your podcast feeds that I subscribe(d) to in iTunes keep doing this insanely annoying thing where the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE PODCAST STARTS DOWNLOADING ITSELF? I don't know what you're doing, and by appearances, it doesn't look like you know, either. Dan, whoever is maintaining the RSS feeds for your podcasts Back to Work and Road Work is a ten-thumbed oaf, an incompetent dingus, or maybe a hapless dunce! If you're delegating that task, you need to take it away from that delegate and tell them to go hold up a door or guard a stack of buckets. They shouldn't be allowed to eat with sharp utensils, either. On the other hand, if it's you, Dan... well, please go and get some rest or some medical help. The only other podcast stream that so consistently misbehaves like yours do is the one from Jacobin magazine, and I don't expect those people to be able to walk and chew gum simultaneously, as far as computer skills are concerned. How you've managed to make your RSS feeds in iTunes as much of a bungle as theirs is a mystery. I have to unsubscribe or else it's gonna drive me insane. Ponderous, man. Ponderous!

John's outlet for his inner thoughts and worries
This is an interesting podacast - John usually tells stories of some kind on his other shows, but this podcast is where he discusses what is going on in his life with Dan. Dan is good host for the podcast, and takes a while to get a bead on him - he is not what you might imagine at first glance - Dan has worked hard to help John to be a successful podcaster, and might be one of the most important people in the expanding Roderickverse. If you are looking for a show about what John thinks about after he he gets off the line with Merlin, this is the show.

    Running out of material
I listened from Day One up until the one when Dan was whining about not getting paid enough. Just imagine how that sounds to someone who works for a living.
  • MaxwellJohn39
    Just the best.
Road Work is, without a doubt, my favoite podcast. There is nothing better than sitting with a hot cup of coffee and listening to Dan and John talk about any subject. 5 stars.

It took me awhile to warm up to Dan Benjamin
    But I'm sufficiently warmed.

    Love this podcast!
John and Dan. Dan and John. The conversations between these two always entertain, and often hit a bit close to home (episode 93 includes a fascinating look at loneliness). If you like Roderick on the Line give this one a listen, I have a feeling you'll get similar enjoyment; I sure do!

As always Dan is Clark Kent!
Dan is obviously having fun on this show. I'm still listening.

Like falling down the rabbit hole
I look forward to the weekly tales and viewpoints delivered by Mr. Roderick. There never seems to be a set agenda, but somehow, beautiful stories blossom and the allotted time just isn't enough.

    Sucker Punch
Sucker Punch is my favorite episode thus far and I hope that there are more like it. It clearly differentiates this podcast from Roderick on the Line, and is the more contemplative, serious side of John. No offense to the hosts, but early on, this seemed to be an echo of RotL and floundered a bit to find its voice. It's been getting a clearer focus recently and I hope there are more like Sucker Punch. We need this kind of commentary in the world today. Much love to John and Dan. I enjoy all the great shows.

    A Pair of Aces
I love how easy it is to tell when the show is over!

John Roderick "educates" millennials on politics
John Roderick lectures 18+ year-old millennials on their lack of maturity and pontificates why they shouldn't form political opinions of their own (thesis: only old people are wise enough), while Dan Benjamin plays the role of condescending sidekick yes-man ("uh huh, uh huh, uh huh").
  • rallycar27
    Yahooooo
John and Dan. John and Dan. John and Dan. John and Dan. John and Dan. John and Dan.

    Honest Discussion
I liked this podcast, but I started loving it with episode 7 and the discussion about high school and college. So much rang true, this is a great show.

    Roderick on the Other Line
Just as, if not more enjoyable than Roderick on the Line. The chemistry is great here.

    Good Dynamic
The podcasts I like are usually conversational in style, so the success of the show is largely dependent on the chemistry that their hosts and guests have. These two are smart, friendly, and good at bouncing ideas and jokes back and forth. It's probably my favorite new podcast of this year.

    Camp Friends and School Friends
Usually when the two meet continuums collapse. But Roderick and Benjamin have a dynamic that makes me smile soooo much.

    Good listening
I'm happy I found this podcast. These two seem like really good friends. They lose one star cause I think the tarantula was trying to defend a nest in the garage and they could have been relocated.

    Mischief, opinions, and joy
It's been a long time since I've laughed this hard at a podcast. Can't wait for more.

    Helping people
Like a fluffernutter sandwich or a cemetery pop, Dan Benjamin and John Roderick are two great tastes that taste great together. I’m excited to hear more from the disembodied voices that I have relied on for edutainment in the past. I really think Roderick is the one who will be able to develop a cohesive theory for the lights Dan keeps seeing in his neighborhood. And we’re ALL going to benefit.

    All the great shows!
John Roderick has such an amazing power over the English language: very rich, colorful and humorous metaphors and he has the authoratitive but pleasant voice to go with it. Every story he tells is entertaining, whether it is from his broad experience and deep insight in human psychology or just how he prepared his coffee this morning! I highly recommend listening to the 4 interviews that Brett Terpstra did with John in 5by5’s Systematic podcast (episodes 106, 110, 113 and 118), in which John discusses his musical career leading up to The Long Winters. As others have stated, I also encourage new listeners to subscribe to Roderick On The Line.

    Guffaws and Introspection
I love that Dan and John both elicit these responses. They do so in different and equally delightful ways. Thank you both for the colorful storytelling!

    Short guy/Tall guy Artist/Engineer
Great show by two great personalities. If you are saying to yourself, Self why would I want to listen to these two on yet another podcast? Tell yourself, Self, because on this one Dan is the John Roderick and John in the Dan Benjamin. Also, Finally, what we have been clamoring, the perfect companion to The Bacon Method. Do it!

    oh ya
This is a really good show. Very smart and funny conversation and while I don’t normally agree with all of John’s political views he presents things in a way that does cause you to think about things. So far the show is a good mix of real life, funny, and technology. Keep up the good work Dan and John I like what you guys are doing!
