Go Fact Yourself

Twice a month, host J. Keith van Straaten and co-host Helen Hong quiz the smartest celebrities they know to find out why they love what they love! Recorded before a live audience in downtown Los Angeles, this game show features comedians, actors, and musicians answering arcane questions on topics they claim to be experts in. But don't worry; if they slip up, there are real experts on hand to give us the facts!

    Fun trivia show
“Do you annoy your family by shouting the answers on Jeopardy?” No! My whole family shouts the questions on Jeopardy and the answers on Go Fact Yourself ! 🤓 We love the variety of topics and guests! J. Keith and Helen always entertain and their banter is on point. Thanks for the fun show!

    Obviously liberal minded
Don’t let your guests or the moderators use GFY as a political platform. I don’t align myself with the way most of your guests are aligned and I don’t need to hear a liberal elitest point fingers at me because I don’t think or vote the same way they do. Just stick to being funny not political.

    I love this show
I love the variety of topics and guests. I’ve been listening to before the pandemic and this podcast has gotten me through some hard nights.

    Never a miss!
Whatever the topics chosen by the guests, whether I’m also a super fan or I’ve never even of it, its always a good show and good for many many chuckles. Thanks for the great times, J. Keith and Helen!

So much work done to entertain me!
I’m a supporter of the Maximum Fun network, and when I select where my contribution goes, GFY is the top of the list. The amount of research that goes into this quiz show is amazing. The panelists are all interesting people and the surprise guest experts for their self-chosen categories are incredible. You end up with a fun quiz show, with celebrities losing their minds over meeting their heroes. I’ve loved this show from the first episode and it’s the first one I listen to whenever a new episode comes out!
  • GamingSavant
    Top notch trivia fun
They do a great job of getting experts in each guests topic and I feel so happy when the contestants get emotional when they meet said experts.

    The Best!
I wait for the new shows to drop each time. The format is unique and I always learn new things, especially with the fun facts. I always get excited when the deep dive topic is one. I love as well.

    Fun and relatable
I love trivia and learning more about the lives of celebrities so this podcast ticks all the boxes. Thanks for showing us how our heroes are people too and can also be fans. Keep up the great work!

    Listen to this podcast!
What a phenomenal podcast! An interview show disguised as a game show. I started listening to hear my favorite celebrities play, and quickly found the game was so interesting that I enjoyed the podcast just as much when I didn’t recognize the guests. If you’re not listening to Go Fact Yourself, what are you even doing with your life? Thhaaaank yooouuu Go Fact Yourself ( I put that last bit in just in case J Keith reads this at the end of an episode)

    N2deep for this podcast!
I’ve listened from the first episode and haven’t missed any since. I enjoy trivia shows and the idea that the guests are picking their own subjects makes it more interesting. Also enjoy the game for the listener of attempting to figure out which subjects get picked.

    Geektastic!
I love hearing artists whose works I geek out over geeking out over their own favorite people and topics! It's wildly entertaining and informative at the same time. Thanks, J. Keith, Helen and the entire GFY crew!

I happily look forward to this podcast every other week and have yet to be disappointed. It’s smart, fun, and smart. Keep it up!

Fun facts — Yes! Love this podcast
It’s a bit humbling learning how very little I thought I knew. Fun humor, informative tidbits, interesting guests, and terrific hosts.

    Trivia for the ages
The hosts have great chemistry and it is easy to tell the trivia is always created with a deep appreciation for the subject matter. The experts always seem excited to share their knowledge with fans.

    Always a delight!
The perfect balance of comedic and educational. I’m invested in every topic, even ones that would never interest me on paper. Hearing someone geek out over a passion, and then get to meet an idol? Never gets old. When I run out of new episodes, I go back and re-listen to old ones! What are you waiting for, give it a listen!!
  • eye_day
The two hosts are so charming!
    J. Keith and Helen make this program a delight. I learn interesting facts, plus, it’s really fun when the experts are revealed, and the astonished guests are speechless! I highly recommend this game show.

Go Fact Yourself is One of the Best Podcasts
I was disappointed when Ask Me Another was cancelled but after looking for a replacement quiz show I found Go Fact Yourself. I look forward to listening during my weekends. I love the show, the hosts are funny, it’s entertaining and educational. It’s one of my favorite podcasts. Thanks Helen and J. Keith!

    Deliciously cunning!
I’ve been listening to this creative and clever show since almost the beginning and have seen many of the live shows in person - which I recommend as a fantastic and memorable evening out. I got to nerd out with people I’ve always wanted to meet and my kids learned that fandom has its perks - you never know when you’ll meet your idol or go on a quiz to be asked about them! As a fan of British panel shows I’m always looking for home-grown versions, and this show is in up there with that NPR news quiz as the best we have to offer. It has a great format, the hosts are fun, and the conceit of asking famous folks about stuff they geek over is deliciously cunning. Because it’s so personal for the guests you feel like you get to know them better but without all the oft-repeated stories or late-night gags. Five stars!

    Absolute Favorite!
Educational, entertaining, and a highlight twice a month! I've listened to every episode multople times and I enjoy it!

Love the content, hate the audio mixing!
I love the show and the hosts, but the audio mixing is terrible- extremely loud laughter by the hosts and very quiet conversation, especially in the beginning “get to know the guest” segment- it makes it very hard to listen to. If you can survive the beginning, the rest of the show is cleverly written, funny, and great to listen to.
  • ThirdRateDuelist
My favorite “doing my tasks” show!!
Absolutely love the show, it’s one of my go to shows to keep me in good spirits while completing my various little “tasks” (chores). I’m always listening and crafting my personal topics I would choose if I played!🤔🤔
  • Benhilleson
    Love the show.
Haven’t missed an episode. Especially enjoyed the Ron Funches episode. Dude has the best laugh. Now, one downside is the intro. When Helen says “Do you shout out the answers at trivia” cmon guys I assume you mean questions.

    Two loves combined
Go fact your self feels like being at a really good party where everyone is into comedy and trivia. You never know what random subject will come up, and you will never regret learning what gets people excited about. You can find out someone else is into the same thing you are, or get a chance to discover something totally new that you come to love. Thank you to Hellen, J. Keith and the entire trivia industrial complex for hosting this awesome audio shindig.
  • floote77
    Love it!
I’m a trivia junkie, and while other podcasts help me to practice, this one helps me to actually LEARN trivia. The conversations, explanations, and fun facts stick in my brain, plus J. Keith and Helen are super funny.

    In the podcast sweet spot
When I listen to podcasts, I like to think that I’m learning something. In reality, I just want to be distracted from daily life and entertained. GO FACT YOURSELF is in the sweet spot, checking *all* those boxes. Interesting guests from every facet of entertainment—musicians, authors, journalists, actors, comedians, you name it—take fascinating deep dives into their passion topics. The tone is amustingly light and breezy and delightfully free of snark. Charming from beginning to end.

B and high C Level Celebrities can geek out too
Did you ever want to hear a someone moderately famous take your hand and bring you down a rabbit hole of crazy knowledge from their childhood or Covid panic? Do you want to hear those same specific culture lovers geek out emotionally when they get to meet a hero of that sliver of pop culture? This podcast may be for you.

    This podcast is grand!
I wish it could come out every week. HIGHLIGHT of my weekend when it does!!

    Great Show!
I really enjoy the audio game show format. I have been listening to the NPR shows (Says You!, Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, Ask Me Another) for most of my life and this show has that same feel in the best ways!

    A perfect game show
    Perhaps the greatest podcast

    Simply the best
This is such a fun podcast where you learn random facts. We really enjoy listening to it in the car and testing our knowledge - even our 1 year old likes it.

Cenk!!! I have been watching TYT for several years, and every single person in the Netwerk is amazing, andCenk being the front man, is definitely one of the best in broadcast and thank you Mr Ugyur For making that amazing entity happen. I am so happy that he is a guest on this show. What a surprise

Such a great time, every time!
I’m almost finished bingeing the whole series and will be so sad when I have to just sit around and wait for new shows to drop! I live for moments like Jeff Hiller’s near meltdown upon finding out that his guest experts were “Wicked” composer/writers Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman: “I guess I didn’t realize what your expert resources were… I thought it would be someone from the chorus of a touring company!” Keep up the awesome, J Keith, Helen, and Co.!

    Best Theme Song EVER
In addition to the absolute delight which is this gameshow podcast (I mean, the celebrity contestants and the amazing - AMAZING - experts that appear are worth the listen alone, and Jay Keith and Helen? Come ON), but that theme song? Every time I hear the opening bars of that theme song, I feel pure happiness. I travel by car a lot, so I hoard podcasts and listen while driving, and I do that opening riff on my steering wheel ever single time. I may be weird. But it’s a good weird. And I absolutely love this podcast.

    Overjoyed!!!
HELEN, I’m so thrilled you are back & healthy blessings found you. Sending joy, love & peace to you on your new life journey. Thank you for sharing, we all missed you. J. Keith, you rock as well. You are talented & funny! Love the show, listen over & over! Keep it up because laughter, quick wit and smartie pants make life great. P 12/31/22 I hope you are both well. Helen, how’s it going? I’ve been sending my good vibes your way. Really missing my weekly smarting up with your thoughtful facts, insights and inquisitiveness. Your show ALWAYS make me feel good & laugh. I’m missing you both, as well as the wonderful guests! Selfishly, “every two weeks or so” has me jonesin for more. I listen to each show a few times. Oh how I was spoiled before with a weekly show! Thank you! Happy 2023! It’s going to be positively fruitful! Petra Washington

    Here from the beginning
I have loved this podcast from the beginning. First, I enjoyed learning new facts and the great humour. Now, I care about J Keith and Helen so much. Their rapport is truly friendly and kind and they help make a welcoming space for their guests and experts. I love learning about what is interesting to other people, and especially about the deep cuts for a movie or genre of music or style of art. This podcast has expanded my listening and my viewing and my reading experiences. Keep it up! Lorienne (rhymes with orient, Delorean, Julienne, or where Galadriel lives—lothlorien) in Cambria CA.

    The best trivia podcast
Interesting guests, funny hosts, and the most creative format out there. Can someone please make this a TV show so more people get to see it?

    An interesting and fun listen
This is a fun podcast that constantly surprises me with its interesting topics, guests, and trivia. I can tell a lot of care and thought goes into each episode, and the hosts are relatable and entertaining. Recently moved back to LA, so I’m excited to catch a show in person! Keep up the good work, and thanks for brightening my days with knowledge, humor, and good-hearted competition. :)

    A great podcast
I love trivia podcasts. I was looking for one to replace another that I listened to that ceased production a few years back. I listened to one episode and was instantly hooked. I love the banter between the hosts and the guests. I listen the day they are released and I have binge listened to all the earlier episodes. I always learn something new while being entertained. You cannot ask for more from a podcast. Please come do a live show in Miami so I can see you in person. 💜

    More please!
I love this podcast! From the awesome guests to “what’s the difference” I can’t get enough!

    Go Dad Yourself
Huge fan of the show. The most fun way to play trivia and still feel good about yourself. My dad loves trivia and we are a 2000 miles plus away from each other. I used to give him a question or two every Thursday to keep him busy at work and it was a success when he was right, but when he was wrong get responses like “well that’s what the answer should be.” So I adopted your format and once a month ask for three categories and prepare the research for it. Goes over much better (although still will get pushback for a wrong answer and now I can say well you picked the topic). Hoping to one day become notable enough to be a guest but this show brings me so much happiness. Helen and J. Keith are a joy.

    Great fun
This show is terrific. The hosts are delightfully fun. The questions and topics are engaging and interesting, as are the player guests. I always want to find out more about them after the show. The game is fast paced without feeling hurried; it moves along breezily. The best part is when the player guests get to meet an “expert guest” during the expert round of questions. Hearing them “fan out” over the experts is a real treat. This is a good fun listen and I look forward to each episode. It’s one of my “never miss” podcasts.

Denise Crosby and Larry wilmore !
This was such a fun and joyful episode. I laughed and clapped and smiled along with your live audience. It made my day ! Jake Keith and Helen keep up the amazing work! Love this podcast and look forward for it every two weeks!

    Great Fun
I stumbled across the show because I love Helen Haung from her appearances on Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me. I absolutely love the show, listen to every new episode as soon as I can. These days I am going through all of the old episodes in my spare time. The show has a timeless quality because the topics are not generally time sensitive. One exception, it was a little odd hearing Grant Imahara, knowing he had died too young a couple of years ago. Still wonderful but with a bit of tragedy. Keep up there good work! Hopefully I can catch it live someday on a trip to LA.

Why do we love what we love?
I’ve been listening to Go Fact Yourself for years now and it’s always been great fun, but I especially love that they’ve come to embrace the fact that the show is less cheeky “making the guests look dumb and then smart again” and more “let’s all just nerd out and find out why the guests love what they love”. The latter is why we listeners keep coming back for more, after all. :)

    Binge Worthy til the Whining
Had to stop following. Got to me how they keep going on about how hard it is to have to always try to not offend people. Is it really? They sound relatively privileged to me. There are so many worse things to have to live with — like being oppressed. For just being who you are. I’m sure it’s possible to find some compassion. If you want to. Too bad. I was enjoying bingeing. But there are plenty of fact based pods hosted by decent people.
  • PhxButch
    Brilliant fun
I found this podcast a few months ago. I have been binge listening ever since. I’ve heard close to 30 episodes since last month. I have stopped listening to news in the car. I have stopped listening to sports radio in the car. Now I only listen to J Keith and funny Helen Hong in the car. I love this show. I love these hosts. I love the guests and I love the writers, tv shows, musicians and others they’ve introduced me to. Thank you for brightening my world!!
  • tonywardarts.com
    You complete me.
I went from not liking podcasts all that much to binge-listening to this whole series! J. Keith and Helen have become my buddies for commutes, work, and free time. They’ve also given me plenty of fantastic facts with which to enthusiastically annoy my wife and kids… and that makes my heart dance. Thanks, you two!
