I enjoy the wide range of books discovered through these discussions. The guests vary so widely in how they interpret what is a a Good Read that I learn of books I’d never hear of elsewhere. The host is an absolute twin to my own book tastes so I know there will always be at least one book I’ve read or need to read or better still, need to reread.

A great concept but often the shallowness of the guests is such that they could be talking about television. In fact they are usually TV presenters of some kind.

Mariella Frostrup is by far the best of the hosts. Always measured, informed and a pleasure to listen to.

A Good Read is the best part of this podcast. Wish there was more of it.

For anyone with a love for books and reading, A Good Read is the best of all possible Podcasts. The book selections and discussions (guided by the always brilliant and articulate Harriett Gilbert) are always wonderful. The guests usually agree…but the discussions are even more interesting when they don’t. I never miss an episode!

The host of the Books and Authors podcast, highlights all aspects of authorship and more in this can’t miss podcast! The host and expert guests offer insightful advice and information that is helpful to anyone that listens!

Finding this podcast got me through the worst of the Pandemic. I loved every interview. The hosts are brilliant and so are the guests! It’s a joy!

A great way to discover books and get inside the mind of writers.

Best of the genre - not too long - not too short - always enjoyable

And I also love this comedic “in between 2 ferns” type interview with this NYT best selling author and WSJ reporter.

I wait and wait for A Good Read and World Book Club. Harriet is a fantastic host. She is gracious, interesting and interested, so we follow suit. Thank you Harriet for hours of happy listening.

Your questions are excellent, and you allow your guests to answer them. You are a skillful interviewer. I’d like also to mention Martin Amis’ comment in regards to Barbara Pym. Martin told me he couldn’t understand her appeal as a writer; he just didn’t get it! Sian Harries pointed out in Pym’s novels “nothing ever happens;” but, the minutiae in life. Rather, they were about “excellent women” of that post war era. Mr. Amis (IMHO, an alpha man) could not connect with the female characters in Pym’s novels. I love, love, LOVE A GOOD READ. Whether it is something I have read and loved, read and hated, am now persuaded to read, or will pass over, the show gives me new aspects to ponder and joys to experience. Harriett Gilbert does a great job moderating this programme, and I can’t wait for next week’s episode!

Host seems to negatively probe guests

Both “A Good Read” and “Open Book” are excellent shows, well-produced podcasts that merit more than one listen.

I listen to and love many book-related podcasts but "A Good Read" is simply the best. Smart people talking about not 1 but 3 books hits my sweet spot. I need all podcasts to be as well done.

What a wonderful program, with interesting guests/reviewers/authors and a varied selection of opinion, a varied selection of books by a world-wide selection of authors.
